I was in the Phil. about 5 years ago and visited Tagaytay I think its a Volcano Caldera and the cool weather allows them to grow berry's, lettuce and other cool weather crops, the first time I tried Bulalo was at my friends house in LA and it was so good on a cold night my favorite was the fresh corn
Did you go inside the rim of the volcano and see the small zoo. You can also dine and look down at the bottom of the volcano where there is a lake with an island in the center that has another lake in the center, maybe, ( I can't remember). :)
Don't forget to mix a bit of shrimp paste (bagoong) with your kare-kare next time. You'll love the difference! I really like you, Qiang. You always show such exuberance and excitement for life. Its so contagious! Btw after showing me the market, i'm leaning toward retiring there!
True. While Tagaytay is littered with many touristy restaurants with a commanding view of Taal Lake & Volcano, eating Bulalo in the beef market looks like the most authentic food trip. And, as have pointed in many comments above, Dan should have applied a little shrimp paste to his Kare-Kare that gives more flavor to the peanut sauce. While Quang should have partnered the fried Tawilis fish with some veggies from the Kare-Kare
Qiang has such a genuine and sweet personality. Been following your journey here in the Philippines and i specifically like your TAO expedition experience. Good job and continue doing what you do. Cheers!
Dan you can ask them to prepare something for you without meat and they will do it for you. Yes, vegetable kare-kare is delicious. Kare-kare is our local version of curry but kare-kare is an authentic Filipino dish tho
I love your videos and I am sooo glad the two of you are back in the philippines -- the place I am trying to retire to soon. I am interested in the Bayawan / Dauin / DM area, San Carlos NO West to Bacolod and IloIlo, and Arayat San Fernando Pampanga areas. Hope I run into you two sometime! 🙏🙏😊😊
That bulalo is a fav dish of Filipinos but I don’t eat beef either. I love peanut butter however Karekare for some odd reason I don’t eat. Wow that market has so many choices of fruits and veggies 💚 3 for 100 pesos...I wish they have cheap piña (pineapple) here in Cavite. They have different varieties of piña here in the Philippines. This is an enjoyable video! Take care u2
the next time you eat bulalo try overlooking Taal Volcao were you enjoy the views .visit also Bon Vietnamese restaurant nearby Mall of Asia. enjoy .anh yeu em.
Bulalo! Oh no. This is not Dan's day hahaha. But glad veggie kare-kare was there. Well, the bulalo would most likely taste similar in all the restaurants up there so the best way to choose is to choose the restaurant that served vegetable dishes as well bec bulalo is already a given. But you got it sorted out in the end.
I am always looking at you as well as at your husband, sometimes I comment, but sometimes not, congratulations on your social touch and personal education, saludos!!
usually kare kare lacks strong taste bcoz the shrimp pste side should be added to it to add the salty flavor thats lacking.. always like watching you guys.. enjoy! 😊
I read somewhere that tawilis is the only freshwater sardine in the world. Originally, it was a saltwater sardine but was able to adopt to freshwater. Lake Taal used to be connected to the sea. But due to an eruption, the narrow channel that connected the lake to the sea got blocked. The saltwater in the lake became freshwater. And the salt water sardine became tawilis.
Hi Dan & Qiang so great to see you both enjoying your trip around the market place , I love the marrow I would break open bones to get to the marrow yum yum
Hi Chung. I could not believe you said peanut sauce but then I heard it again and so wish I was there. Never saw peanut sauce in a dish like that. I have seen it on beef on a stick.
Wow, that is a lot of choices. If I am undecided, I go to where it is seems most popular with locals. Very interesting seeing the market prices as well. Chees for sharing :)
Thank you for the video. I am often amazed at the amounts of foods for sale in all the booths and I wonder how often they are recycled to keep them in good condition/fresh?? I think most of us are always curious where you will go next. 🙂
Kare-kare needs the shrimp paste to put saltiness in it. Thats how you it eat.. I wish someone in the food store explained it to you. Anyways, enjoy your stay here. Keep Safe!!!
there's no curry in kare-kare it's just the same color as curry. i love the banana flower, we substitute it with artichoke coz there's no banana flower here in italy it has the same consistency i love the artichoke it may both seem bland the artichoke and banana flower but if you eat it long enough there's a distinction and i miss the banana flower's taste.
Dan’s got the Filipino technique down pat…. If you only have 1 ulam (main dish) and it’s saucy, drop it right down in the middle of your rice patch for maximum absorption. That way your rice will be infused with lots of flavour👍 BTW, Qiang great technique on that bone😉
Hello again Dan and Qiang..i feel so envious on yhe food that you ate at Tagaytay haha I just want to give a share if advise when eAtung filipino food….REMEMBER,ALWAYS ASK THE SERVER IF THERE IS SAUCE FOR THE PARTICULAR FOOD..because some filipino ar most filipino foods has sauce topair..if you dont have sauce then the taste will be bland..So always askthe server about which sauce is good for what you ordered so you will enjoy it more. Happy eating !😋🍻🏝 Also filipino food is always almost paired with rice thats why they are some said salty…the rice balances the taste of the food..
I am originally from the Philippines and love watching your Philippine vlogs. I miss my country so much. The only thing, I feel sad and kind of furious that fishermen get those small crabs and sell them in the market that gets eaten in restaurants. That is not sustainable in the long run. No baby crabs mean no big crabs. That is not good for sustainable food.
I think you need to try Kare Kare again because Dan didn't eat it with the purple shrimp paste that it came with. Thats where all the flavors come out when you mix it togother.
Wait wait... you got pineapples 3 for P100?!?! Crazy. I was there just a couple of months ago and it was 3 for P200 haha. Same as with one other vlogger I just watched a few weeks ago.
I was there at that market 3 days ago. Bought pineapples 6 for P100. They're small ones but very sweet. I don't like buying the big ones because they spoil easily. One small pineapple is good for one meal dessert for 4 people,
Please, Qiang, teach Dan how to say Tagaytay. He's smarter than that, surely. All the "A" in Tagaytay are pronounced like the "a" in the word, "father." Not like the "a" in the word, "pay." Phonetically, it's "TAH-GUY-TIE". Mispronouncing it once or twice is cute. More than that and in different videos, not so much. Thank you in advance. And now, let me watch your video.
Sure I will. He always do the homework searching how to pronounce Philippines city, sometimes it quite hard for him because he only speaks English. I speaks Malay, English, Chinese, Farsi, and I love learning new languages. Malay and Filipino language have some similarity, so I can pronounce it better than Dan. lol 😂 With your explanation " Phonetically, it's "TAH-GUY-TIE", this is really very easy to pronouncing. Salamat Po!
@@HoboVentures You realize, of course, that I'm saying this lightheartedly, with tongue in cheek. You two have different strengths, I'm aware of that. Just treat these notes as contributing to engagement in your content. Happy travels!

That Sugar or Custard apple is delicious. Locally known as Atis.

Tao's chef making the vege burger patty from banana flowers, it is so delicious! I loving it!

@@HoboVentures every time I see your Chanel it reminds me of the theme song from a tv show I loved when I was a kid, “The littlest hobo” (Terry Bush).
