- Want to learn how to play Balrog but don't know where to start? Confused by all the combo videos and waffle? Don't know how to PUNCH good? Well this is the tutorial for you!
In this tutorial I will cover what I consider are the core beginner combos to learn before going on to learn the harder hit-confirms and link combos, it is by no means an exhaustive list. I also cover an Intermediate Combos primer, jump-ins, punishing, anti-airs and dealing with fireballs!
V-Skill 2 seems like it was designed for beginners in mind as it removes the need to charge for Dash Straight and makes it safe on block as well as a really good combo tool! However you will lose the easy of ducking past fireballs and the overhead of V-Skill 1.
V-Trigger 1 is SOOOOO much fun landing the additional 4 hits and then super cancel xD You'll see pros split up V-meter usage for mix-ups but that isn't something I'd worry about just yet. You can also VT cancel any special move including TAP! V-Trigger 2 is only 2 bars so you will get it quicker and the command throw adds another fun tool to Balrog's arsenal, compared to VT1 you can only VT cancel EX special moves, not regular versions. Beginners can make use of both VTs, VT2 may be simpler to use :)
Balrog, similar to Bison, was a purely charge character in SF4 but they devs were generous and gave him a non-charge special so he can combo without needing a charge ontop of pretty sweet light starter target combo! Funnily enough he's the only character that HAS to Crush Counter as all his heavy attacks cause crush counters, if you have time I'd recommend forgoing the CC and doing a neutral jump combo.
Any questions about the combos, video, character, game, etc. please leave a comment and I'll do my best to answer :)
No news of when Oro is coming so will most likely be able to do another Beginner Combos before then. Be sure to vote in the recent poll and let me know who'd you like to see a Beginner Combos tutorial for next!

Love this guy
Glad you found it useful :)
These are great examples my friend, keep going!
Glad you found them useful :) I have done a tutorial for every character in SFV, I'm now working my way through SF6 :)
@@sugami82 yup, I'm most definitely working on them as we speak
these are the hardest combos I've ever attempted in my life 😭
I suggest you try Ed or Falke if you're having trouble with these :)
Great video!
Glad you found it useful :)
Now we need a printable of the stuff in the video. I used to play Balrog but main Juri instead but you have a very good learning video here. Do you have a twitter?
Glad you found it useful :) You mean a transcript of all the combos? Good idea, would be easy enough to do whilst making the video as it'd just be a simple copy and paste.
I love how Juri looks and animates in this game, just wish they gave her better hit-confirms :(
No I don't have a twitter, if this channel gets popular enough I might consider it :)
@@sugami82 Yeah, I'd love to check out this guide too.
Impressive bro.I just decided to change my Sakura to Balrog.
Glad you found it useful :) Sakura is my favourite character but I just didn't like how she played in this game :( Hopefully she'll be more fun when she comes to SF6 as DLC :)
How the hell do you do that back forward motion for moves? It’s hard
Hold back for a couple of seconds then push forward and punch or kick, turn inputs on to make sure you're not hitting the button too soon.
@@sugami82 doesn't even need to be a full second. That's a very common misconception with charge characters. . Charge times vary between games but in SFV Boxer charge times are 40 frames. So figure all fighters run at 60fps 60 frames per second. You quickly realize "oh shit I don't have to hold back/ down/down back long at all !" . Hope that helps. 🙏
That's a lot of damage from his CA
Dash Straight is so annoying I can barely pull it off in a comvo
Sounds like you haven't charged it long enough. You should be holding down-back whenever you are not moving forward or jumping, don't wait for animations to finish hold db *immediately* to start the charge as early as possible 😊
