SFV: Ed Tips - Beginner Combos

- Want to learn how to play Ed but don't know where to start? Confused by all the combo videos are waffle? Don't know how to cocky kid good? Well this is the video for you!
Ed is pretty much the ultimate beginner character so I wanted to make a Beginner Combos tutorial for him, I've also added anti-airs and dealing with fireballs for good measure :) This is by no means a complete list of all the combos, just the ones I feel are most useful for beginners to learn before moving on to the trickier ones.
As previously mentioned, Ed is the ultimate beginner character. Simple inputs, he has pretty much everything from fireballs, safe specials, good anti-air and a fully invincible attack. My only issues with him are that his metered combos are kinda tricky as are his super cancels. He doesn't have great pokes either but he has other tools to make up for them.
For beginners I would probably recommend using V-Skill 1 and V-Trigger 1.

Notation:
LP - Light Punch, MP - Medium Punch, HP - Heavy Punch, P - Any Punch, PP - 2 Punches
LK - Light Kick, MK - Medium Kick, HK - Heavy Kick, K - Any Kick, KK - 2 Kicks
f - forward, d - down, b - back
s. - standing, c. - crouching, j. - jumping
QCF - Quarter Circle Forward, QCB - Quarter Circle Back,
CC - Crush Counter, CA - Critical Arts, VS - V-Skill, VT - V-Trigger
xx - cancel, > - link (top line)

Combos in sfv are lacking af ugh Ed is cool though great vid!
Thanks :) There are some characters who have style combos, most styling you can do is with V-Trigger cancels but that kills the damage :P

I don't know why, but i was having so much trouble learning link combos and even when special cancels were easy adding them after with hit confirmed link combos it just doesn't click.
I mainly play DBFZ and tekken 7 and do fine there.
However, ed for some reason i can do all the combos. Since the motions for special is so ez for all the moves i can focus on timing and ive been getting the combos down. At least i can play the game now Lol even if he isn't my favorite appeal wise. This helped a lot btw thanks!
Glad you found it useful :) Ed and Kolin are good beginner characters due to simple inputs, I like Ed's combos but I hate him as a character xD
@@sugami82 yeah he's the only one I can play online since his anti air is so easy.
I really like Karin but no easy anti air and not sure what to do against fireball without my own so online is a pain atm. Live her combos and aesthetic though

I love this character man, but I fell that his tools could be buffed a little bit . Maybe some more juggling with his v skill 1 and either pushback or some invincibility on psycho upper.🤔
You're asking for a broken character xD EX Psycho Upper has invincibility, no special has invincibility without use of meter now :P

Combo at 2:13 (vs2 ex combo ender) does 188 damage not 223

Careful with the crush counter HK, if you press on your opponent's face like that is punishable!
Yeah these are all punish combos, so only use if you know you will hit/punish. A blocked s.HK won't get a crush counter :P
I’ve been playing Ed for a two month straight having a really hard time converting hits to damage. I can poke with hk and get low mk into special, but if I dash in for mp or a close light I always get hit. Lk on wake up works a little bit. It was my goal to get ultra bronze today the highest I’ve gotten is 1300 fp. Snatcher and psycho fist are unsafe but I can deal with block. Any tips would be beneficial. I’ve played 300 matches with Ed
I don't play Ed so the only thing I can really recommend is watch how the high level players play the character. Mix up your offence and have a solid defence.
Psycho Knuckle, Snatcher and Flicker are all -2 on block, ends your turn but all safe on block barring Zangief's super. Charged Snatcher is +3 on block so you can mash P to get Flicker and beat almost anything your opponent does or try to hit confirm with s.MP.
@@sugami82 would you recommend a better character to learn neutral and hit confirms with? I can do motion inputs I just though Ed’s combos looked the coolest

Thanks, glad you found it useful :) Blind matches still give you a chance to select your V-Skill/V-Trigger once you know the opponent's character (online at least) but they both have their uses, it's up to personal preference really. VS1/VT1 are probably more beginner friendly, I'd probably only use VS2 to get around fireballs, VT2 has some nice extended combos if you don't have problems with links :)

Ed doesn't do enough damage in comparison to ither fighters but helpful vid keep up the good work bro
Thanks :) I think with VT2 he does good damage, I haven't included as they're harder combos :P He's made in mind for beginners though and does more damage than Falke, who would be the other beginner character :)
