Great video, I am 61 and new to cigar smoking, I went ahead and just ordered 100 cedar sticks, I am going to also try using the strips to apply my favorite beverage Crown Royal Vailla to my cigars. Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested this. Can't wait to try it. Ty for your videos, I am trying to learn as much as I can about cigars. Have a great day sir.
Fantastic Video! Got a subscribe and a like from me. First timer here and I went to my local cigar spot to get some stogies to-go and he threw some matches and cedar in the bag.... had no clue why, thought it was for scent or to absorb any humidity in the bag? Now i know!
Kennedy, just want to reach out and say great job on the cigar videos. I have been in the cigar/ pipe business's for 18 years. Smoking a pipe since 1987 and cigars since 1996. Will continue to check you out via Stogie TV.
usually you can also get cedar form cigars that come in aluminium or glass tubes, I usually get around 5 strips from one sheet, and you also get a nice smoke haha
I am a beginner on cigars, at the fair i smell sweet smelling cigars, could you please recommend a mild cigar with a sweet aroma no after taste and is good for midday- 4:00.
Joey Sheperd Try Isle Del Sol. It's a coffee infused cigar. You can also try Tabac Especial or Java. These are infused though. Isle Del Sol is my favorite BUT it's also the least expensive of the three.
Joey Sheperd Always good to try one out first before ordering a box...that way you know which ones you like better. Sometimes you can find good deals on samplers to. One thing I would like to say (and I didn't do it this way myself unfortunately with my first humidor the first time I loaded it with cigars) is that if you ever get a Humidor you should figure out how to season it and how to keep the humidity in somewhere between 65-70 BEFORE you load it up. Of course being loaded with cigars will change how much humidification is necessary to keep it at that level. Personally I just throw those three of those crystal tubes (made by Drymastat) in my 75 cigar humidor after filling them with distilled water. If the humidity starts getting high I can remove one and if it starts getting lower then I want I can add another tube. Also I have a small tube humidor that can hold three cigars. I ordered some extra tubes from Amazon so I cam throw one in that thing so I can take a couple cigars to work....and put another three in my extra humidor which is currently empty. Im seasoning the empty 75 cigar humidor right now so that when the 90 cigars I ordered online last week arrive I can just toss them in. My non empty humidor is down to 9 cigars. Lol. Another thing to know is that Ive found that its harder to keep a Humidor at proper humidity when they are almost empty. (which is why I like using a container filled with those crystals like the drymastat tubes) you can add more if the humidity for whatever reason is harder to maintain (like if you smoked most of your stash) and you can take one of the drymastats out if the humidity is way to high.
Joey Sheperd If you get a Humidor you can season it by wetting a clean sponge or small folded hand towel (not dripping wet btw as you don't want any water getting onto the wood) and placing it in the humidor without any cigars. You can put it on a plastic bag or aluminum foil or something else you have handy to keep the water from contacting the wood. Add distilled water to your humidifier or humidifing agent as per the manufacturers instructions as well. Leave it overnight and check the humidity level. If the towel is dry rewet it with distilled water and ring it so its not dripping wet and put it back. Also check the humidifiing agent or humidifier and refill it if necessary and leave them in the humidor one more night. The walls of the humidor have now absorbed all the moisture they need, and you can safely take out the towel, refill the humidifing agent if necessary and add cigars. You only need to season a Humidor once unless you leave it empty for awhile.
Joey Sheperd I would never do this but some people recommend wiping down the wood inside the humidor before seasoning it...but NO DON'T DO THAT. Id be to worried that the cedar might warp. It is unnecessary if you use the method I recommended anyways.
Great video Kennedy! I’ve dabbled in cedar spills a few times but have struggled as the fire burns too fast and I end panicking between burning my fingers off and trying evenly toast the foot of my sticks. I end up with an uneven toasted foot. The spills I’ve used have come from boxes and are in similar length as shown in your video. Any tips? Thanks 🍻
I smoke pipes and I’ve moved on to including cigars from time to time. I’ve found with pipes there’s a TON of different methods to light and everyone swears their method is the only one that should be used. I’ve found it really doesn’t matter, as long as you don’t coat the tobacco with gas, and the whole issue is overblown Be honest: is it the same with cigars? I just use a bic with no issues, but I only have smoked Phillies and backwoods lol so it’s not exactly a complex cigar anyway and I’m sure I’d notice more issues from other methods with a better cigar.
For someone who uses ceder spills exclusively. I dont think this would work. You would have to cut the wood VERY thin to get a sufficient amount of spills to last you for a few dozen cigars and the thinner you cut the cedar, the faster it burns. If your a heavy smoker, you'll go through spills very quickly, so making your own helps a little but i dont think it helps that much. Just my opinion though. I think your better off buying them and whenever you buy boxes of cigars, just set aside the cedar sheet till you build up a few dozen sheets so as you run out of spills you can just start to make them and still have plenty left over to last you a while.
If you did a single blind study, I bet 9 times out of 10, the testers wouldn’t have tasted the butane. You don’t show it to them, you light it, clip it and bring them to the white room to taste it BET y’all can’t taste the difference. If I use a candle, would I taste the wax?
I asked my Cigar company to send me a bunch of Cedar, and they did. Didnt think of this and its the most obvious thing. My man, thank you.
Great idea from a smart man! I have few such sheets, but didn't think of using it this way, thank you.
Thanks Kennedy you keep teaching me.
