Where I live in Canada we have the option of showing up on polling day and telling the polling officer that "I wish to decline my ballot". Thereby participating in democracy by officially declaring that none of the candidates are worthy of my vote. The number of declined ballots is listed in the election results alongside the votes for the candidates. I am proud to say that my riding leads the country in declined ballots for the last few elections. More places need this option.

    • @jonathansteadman7935

I would welcome this in England. It would give me a reason to turn up on polling day ! Edit: I'm sure I wrote 'me a' reason, but it changed to 'a a' reason. This happens a lot, maybe YT wants to make us appear illiterate so changes it when we press the arrow 😁

The US is not a democracy,we do not vote directly for leaders. IDK how it is in the UK, but we have the electoral college which, oddly, makes a bit more sense even tho it... does not make much sense. We vote for those who then vote for us. What is terrifying is, as many do not understand the concept as there are who understand it.

  • @CANNIBoy

Taking part in the elections not only means you accept and condone whatever outcome, it also means you endorse it’s outcome. You supported the system that brought about that eventuality! If you can live with yourself then that’s fine, I’m not trying to dissuade you. But I know how I genuinely feel myself about such matters and I will never endorse a corrupt and dystopian-leading out of date Trojan carcass that is 21st century politics.

Persians were religiously tolerant and, aside from demanding a levy army, pretty much left the nations they conquered to govern themselves so long as they paid their taxes.
Spartans were kinda inflexible. About everything.
Some will say that Sparta never occupied other countries outside the Greek hegemony - they would be correct. They couldn't. There weren't enough of them. Spartan generals were valued, but unlike the other Greek states Sparta was never really capable of having enough men left over to hire out as a mercenary army.
Sparta didn't save the civilised world, they prevented a more enlightened nation from spreading bureaucracy.

    • @asherandai1000
      @asherandai1000 5 лет назад

Beaurocracy is when unelected officials make all the decisions. It also means an excessively complicated administrative procedure. It's origin is France.
Democracy is the system of electing officials to make decisions. It's origin is Greece, specifically Athens which was protected by Sparta.
You literally could not be more wrong if you tried. You didn't even get the word right.

Don’t agree on the ‘you must vote’ thing. Democracy is also the choice to withhold your vote if what you have to choose from does not speak to you.
If you take it to the extreme level and you had the choice of Nazism and Stalinism, then would you be so eager as to say ‘you must vote’?
I chose not to vote in that election because it called for no political reason, but as an ego fishing trip for May. None of the parties won me over with their campaigns and I didn’t want whoever won, to be able to say that they won with a high turn out, and thus legitimise their position.
I deeply value my right to vote. What really devalues that right, is not my ‘not taking up my vote’, but the fact that no one at the top of their parties in this country has proven themselves worthy of anything above acting like primary school kids every Wednesday lunchtime and making the worlds oldest democracy look like an infantile circus.
There are some MPs in the lower ranks who genuinely care about making this country a better place, but sadly they never get anywhere near positions of influence.
The reason why so little people laugh in this video, is that it’s about a situation that’s genuinely not funny.

The Biggest joke elected was Tony Blair. And he managed to survive 13 years. Everybody on here saying how intelligent Murray is, I watched this, and realized this is what I have been saying for the last Fifty years. Telling people "if you don't take part you have no say". You can't moan and whinge if you don't go and vote. Murray is a great Historian, but by his own admission is not a Politician and being an Oxford graduate doesn't always translate into being intelligent. Anybody can get a degree in one subject its not that hard.

Running a country isn't about technical qualifications, there are permanent secretaries of each department with teams of experts running things. What's needed is someone with a natural ability to smell what the public want and then be all over these secretaries and ministers to make sure things happen. The last 4 governments have moaned that its hard to make things happen quickly because of the way the civil service is set up. You need a PM to radically alter how ideas get executed but none seem to have this skill. Even our local councils are gummed up with pen pushing types who want to have a meeting about a meeting rather than make things happen.

Here... this is a good one.. you'll love this... I laughed my head off when I was told this very funny thing...
Just after the UK referendum when most voters chose to leave the European political union, there was an election in Stoke on Trent.
The Labour party won the seat and claimed this was a clear message to the government about blah blah blah.
The Labour party won the seat but only 13.9% of the electorate voted for them. 86.9% of the electorate did not vote for the Labour party.
For every vote Labour gained there were six electors who didn't vote Labour or voted for another party.
Then the Labour party stated that this was a clear mandate to impose Labour policies in Stoke on Trent.
Now don't you think that's hilarious?
Now keep that in mind when some Labour Nutjob tells you that the vote to become independent from the European political union must accommodate those who voted to 'remain' a part of that undemocratic tyranny.

Jose Taylor If it was the party of "The Pub Landlord", then you are likely right.
However, is it possible that The Pub Landlord is just a character he plays for his act? Could it be that he is different in his real persona?
