- Can we run the height of Mount Everest in one go? Well, here at GTN we challenged Mark & Sam to just that in quite possibly the hardest thing we've ever done! It will take a total of 8848 meters of gained elevation, 51 reps up Crowcombe Hill, on the Quantocks, UK. Could they do it?!

Who else is feeling inspired? What's your next challenge?
I'm considering an Ironman on my own given that the one I was supposed to do is cancelled, but everesting looks like a fun challenge
My next challenge is to cycle around High Tatra mountain range in Poland/Slovakia. 210km, 2600m altitude gain. Challenging enough for me :)
@@sebastianosuch273 Must be very scenic route. Good luck!
Doing a full round of the Lake of Constance - but in two parts on two days. 120km each.
We're planning to run around the Lac de Joux, only 22km but that's 7km more than I've ever run, hoping to make it this autumn. Congratulations on your everesting achievement!
Can't wait for their everesting swim
floating up and swimming down over and over, or swimming up rivers like salmon?
@@kylehagertybanana Your comment made me choke on my banana bread 😂🤣 I’d like to see up river like a salmon 😂
This is John Locke type humor and I'm all for it
Sam is a natural presenter. Please make him a permanent addition
I get home from a 27 mile trail run with 2,000m of ascent and RUclips puts this on my feed 🤯
Congratulations guys - when my family says I’m insane I will play this for them🤣
Ok, The Bicycle Everest scares me. This is insane.
I love this channel! My iron man was cancelled this year so now another 44 weeks of training and that put me in a slump. Watching this and other vids has been such an inspiration. Thank you everyone at GTN!
Sam is a great presence on the channel, you two are such a great tandem. Cheers to both of you!
Mark 6 weeks ago: I don't think I'm gonna rush doing another 100k anytime soon. Less than 1,5 month later: let's do more... And uphill...
Some monstrous effort guys!!!
Good to see Fraser, hope you’re doing well my man. Outrageous effort Mark and Sam, bravo!
Absolute legends!! My knees hurt even thinking about this
And ours! 😖
Unbelievable! And can you imagine, 2 Belgian friends did a double Everesting in 52 hours, running up and down some stairs in the city of Liège.
Yes, quite an amazing challenge there!
@@gtn I know this is a tad late to reply, but those same guys did a triple unassisted everesting a few weeks back. Absolute madlads
I'm training for a Double Everesting next summer. -- 58,058 feet of elevation gain. (But I'm taking the gondola down to save my knees.) Inspiring to see you two get this done. Cheers!
Wowowow - epic challenge! Let us know how it goes 💪
I really love the Sam & Mark adventure videos. And Fraser was there for a bit too! Awesome effort you guys!! Definitely did not make me want to have a go but I thoroughly enjoyed watching you guys do it.
Great job guys! Nice to see Fraser again too.
Yay Fraser is there. At least it was ☀️
Im woundering how long it will take to recover after such a event. And what kind of training and prep it took take on such a challenge. Amazing what you both did and inspiring. Rest well 💪😊
Amazing work guys! Fantastic video & Sam is a great new member of the team 👍🏻
What an epic effort guys. My hat off to you both, incredible willpower and determination.
I was just about to get ready to do an everesting attempt myself on the bike and then you come up with this crazyness Absolutely bonkers! 😵.
You’ve inspired me to do this challenge in the future. Maybe 5 years time. Thanks guys🙌
"I hope they manage to pace this one" ah I see you've met Mark Threlfall before
😂
Amazing Job.
Going to do this challenge this year !
Excellent work!! Great video guys!
I was feeling pretty good about myself and my hill reps this week until I watched this.... thanks a lot guys :) In all seriousness, amazing effort, crazy but incredible. Well done.
14:25 LOL As I was watching you guys start so fast, especially on the downhills, and having done a couple of Everestings myself, I was sure this realization will INEVITABLY come. It's just so funny, EVERYONE starts out WAY too fast. LMAO
Insane effort folks, kudos!!
It'd be great if you could make a video that would take us through the training and recovery plan for this endeavor. Thanks :)
Very motivating, excellent effort by you two! Loved the vid
absolutely stunned by your performance and sheer will power to just keep going- well done
Excellent job guys, kudos for sticking with it.
Awesome effort guys. Well done to you both and all of the team involved.
Ryan Atkins has the record. I don't like that the assisted record gets the credit and he has explain the assisted/unassisted thing every time he talks about it. His accomplishment is leagues ahead of the assisted record and this video goes to prove that.
Both did an amazing job!! Love watching these videos! Love GTN!
I love challenges like these. Great job.
Superb ! Extremely well done to both of you. Very inspiring!
When Mark said he wasn't going to do another ultra for a while... lol
You crazy people!!! On a serious note well done gents, that was a great achievement! 👍🤜
Must of been some amount of DOMS after that one
Great work 👍 My first marathon started with 10 miles that were mostly downhill and my legs were destroyed in a way that they had no right to be after only 10 miles. I’d consider giving Everesting a go on a bike but not in running shoes
Amazing! Really inspiring especially as I'm planning on working up to do the "Buddha's Palm" here in Taiwan (100km with 3200m E+). But I'm curious how you guys fueled for this, the night before, during, and after?
Well done to both of you! Massive respect
Bravo gents! Quite the feat! Tho you need white GTN shirts for the heat! I started sweating just watching. Can't wait for your next nutty adventure!
I'll never complain about hill reps ever sgain!
I'm just wrapping up the Norseman 6500m 1 week climbing challenge I think I'll end it with one last run this evening and land 7500m (I ran and did not bike at all). and I am finding this video almost unbelievable. But I know it must be true. Much respect to you guys! No more challenges for me. I'm just hoping I can cash in on this week with a fast 10k or 21.1k just for the fun of it.
That was amazing guys! Such determination is very inspiring and motivating.
Monster effort you 2, well done.
You’ve earned a rest day
HIGE INSPIRATION! Great friendship, great positivity. Really enjoyed this motivational video. Well done team!!!!
Amazing guys!! Well done 💪🏻
Absolutely insane! Well done guys. Such a good achievement!
Great work guys💪, got my own cycle everesting on Friday...🚴🏻♂️ Going to be hot to!!🍳😂
Good luck! Stay hydrated and pace yourself well.
Perhaps I should try everesting on a bike. It's also a serious challenge.
Thanks Hebrews 👍, I need to definitely do both very well🙂, yes you should.
Best of luck for it Mate. 👍
Thank you Mark, it will be a challenging day, it's for a great local charity to, so that will help a lot.
Great you completed the challenge crazy guys! Very good presentation too. How long before your legs were fresh again ?
Brilliant work. I am still working on the Alpe du Zwift (equivalent to Snowdon). I might try Everesting on my Versaclimber next year as that would only be 4 hrs constant so much the same as a marathon for me at my current pace. I could not psychologically do much longer times even if I was fit enough.
crazy lads,
other average joe on a weekend: fancy for a coffee at a cafe?
these lads on a weekend: fancy for a 100k / everesting?
Well done guys! You are awesome!
absolutely amazing you crazy dudes!
Thanks for the history of everesting.
I’m planing of doing a 100 k in the alps next year because of your crazy ideas! Keep on going to publish videos like that :-) Come on Sam, you secretly want to be on board for the necxt challange ;-)
Interesting that you picked a climb on Asphalt? Wouldn’t it have been a bit “wiser” to take on this crazy challenge on a dirt road? Might have been a little bit easier on the musculoskeletal system?
Congrats! Hope you guys recover quickly from this bonkers effort! 👏👏👏
Yeah, but we wanted a hill that the crew could easily film on too. So it was a bit of a compromise
One should give it a go using cross country skis or roller skis! 💪🏻
You should pitch this idea to Klaebo
How do they brake the roller skis on the descents? It's a great idea. I bet an Olympian skate skier would CRUSH that challenge.
@@andygendron, there are brakes to mount, but I guess it would burn a lot of rubber! Perhaps you could hang on to a motor bike or similar?
You are absolute beasts. 👏🏽👏🏽
Well done guys! Pretty awesome!
Just wow. That's the spirit, cheers guys!
2 guys in Belgium did a double everesting (unassisted) on huge stairs in Liege, they scouted alot of different hills but said that stairs are the way to go, but u have to train specifically for them!
Wow that’s impressive. Yeah, we knew that this wasn’t quite steep enough, but we needed a hill that could be filmed on easily. Conveniently it wasn’t too far from us either.
Just rewatched this🙂 I'll have a run assisted everesting next on the same hill as the cycle everesting, maybe around August? Big fun🥳
I'm attempting a double Everesting on foot next summer. I'm interested -- did you do your everesting run? Any lessons?
@@mid-lifechallenge ha just replied to your site and seen this message, not done my run everesting yet James👍, I'll be watching your progress 👀, good luck.
@Andrew H Thanks man! Good luck in whatever your current endeavor is.
ohhh, and Mt Donna Buang is quite local to me...I wish I hadn't heard that....
Main while, Heather is sitting at home, wondering if all her GTN colleagues have gone insane because of COVID
Epic Chaps, well done :)
You should do a vid on "Who's A Better Runner: Roadie(GCN) vs MTBer(GMBN) vs E-biker(EMBN)" 🤣
Great vid as always. Keep up the work🤘
Congratulations!!
Very interesting video, congratulations on completing the Everesting. I'm curious, what would you have done differently, now that you've done it?
Well we did it on tarmac so that the crew could film easily. We would definitely have chosen a softer surface. Also steeper. This was only just over 15%, so end up taking a long time as a result
I totally love you guys.
Wow... insane but congratulations!
Stunning effort
you're now local legends on this strava segment :)
They will be for a while to come as well
Sadly that segment doesn’t appear to have the local legends feature on it 🙁
@@markthrelfall3577 Ohh how unfortunate. Would have been a record for the ages. Nonetheless this is still a great challenge!!!
Can't stand the new Local Legends notifications. Such spam.
Ken Hunt I’m not totally sure the point of them. Like congrats, you’ve fun the same loop 80 of the last 90 days, you have no variety in your workouts!
The downhill makes this much harder. Just doing the uphill is hard enough.
There is a local hike (with a gondola down) near me that has a yearly competition on June 21st to see who can do the most completions in 20 hours. The current record is, I think, 19, or ~16,200m. I've never tried to do a whole day before, but I've done 4 in a row and it was damn tough.
Sounds like a cool event. Are you in Europe, by chance? I see a lot of vertical events over there, but almost none here. I'm attempting a double Everesting next summer. I'd love to have a vert event for practice. Cheers!
@@mid-lifechallenge in Canada
Looked a bit chilly in the morning !
*Looks for nearest hill with similar elevation and distance*
Mark have you ever considered seeing a Podiatrist about your foot posture? From the videos I can see that you are pronating (rolling in/flat footed) quite a lot in your walk/run. As a podiatrist myself I think it would be worthwhile seeing someone who could give you orthotics to correct this position. This would also redistribute load in your feet/legs and put less strain through ITB/quads as well as reducing load through the inside of the knee joint
In all honesty I’m wearing the wrong shoes for me. I normally wear something with slight support. It’s been a trade off for something that was comfortable and cushioned. It hasn’t caused me any issues
@@markthrelfall3577 As long as you're still going strong that's good!
Well done.
its fun to watch the facial impressions change the longer the run goes :D haha... i bet the downhills are the murder on this, eccentric load is trough the roof, i would do few months hill marathon running and some spesific gym sessions with high level mobility training... but if you are a bit coocoo and need to create content... why not just wing it? :D
Wow. I went up this climb twice in a row on my bike this week and it was tough. I wondered how many times you'd need to do it to Everest it.
Next challenge, everesting swim hahahaha.
But seriously, do the 1 hour climbing challenge, see if you can beat the gcn guys but running! Should be interesting given the advantages of Vam for running, but disadvantage of descending. Do it on the steepest climb you can, dirt.
Swimming locks in the local canal?
Great video and solid run guys. I've tried to everest run two times in the past 12 days. Both were solo on a moutain bike trail without poles. Managed 13600 feet and 15600 feet or so the second time. So very mentally draining. Will give it a go again tomorrow morning on stairs. Congrats on the finish and the great videos you guys produce.
Completed my Everesting Run yesterday! Your video was helpful. Thanks again, such a mental endeavor to do solo. Just waiting on the official word from everesting.cc. keep it up with the well produced content. You guys are doing great!
@@SuperFoxtrap I'm planning a double Everesting run next summer. Circling back on your successful attempt (big congrats, btw!) ... any lessons learned? Helpful advice?
And I thought Everesting with a bicycle was MAD enough!
Great think of living in Chamonix I do this once a month
Dude, that's awesome, but why didn't you try running backwards uphill? I mean, i think I learned it from a video you guys made. Tried on a few hills and enjoyed it, since it forces different muscles, so you get less sore. Now I'm planning on doing half everesting running (no way i'll do "full"), but with this technique (probably running backwards 1/3 or 1/4 of the distance).
That is madness.
Respect!
Well done!
i love episode like that one
Great video 😁
When will you do the Everesting swim?
Eating and drinking that much food and then running straight after makes ME feel like I’m going to throw up
What now..... Swimming everesting??? 😂😂🤪
Wow, just wow!
Why you gotta do this 😂 making my planned bicycle Everesting seem like nothing
I must’ve missed it. How long did it take?
legends .....
Also done it unsupported on the trails with 11 reps. I know your pain guys😁
Have you done the 24 hour relay?
Not yet 🤔
@@gtn Its crazy but I think it is perfect for your crew. 400m track. everyone runs 4 laps(1600m) each leg. When the last one finishes the first one starts. 2 to 10 man/woman teams.
Did I read if you want to do it on a bike you are not allowed to come down the same road which I find silly if you can get a ride down in a car like above then.
