I had a right lung pain that started up 3 days after a 70.3. It was a completely new sensation. 30min later I checked into a hospital. 2 days later I was getting prepped for open heart surgery. Aug 15-2019 Listen to to body people. It can happen to anyone. ✌️🇨🇦🇨🇦
I didnt listen to the knee on Jan 19th. Couldn't walk the next day and then no running for four months. Now in taper week for Hever half ironman and watching this with an ice pack on the knee 8 months later. In middle age these things take forever to get better. Wish I listened to the body more! See you all in the start line on Sunday...bad knee and all🤪
Great information that I hope I never need. It good to hear descriptions of different injuries so we know what to fear... I mean watch out for. -Joseph
Hey guys, first of all, great show really love the content. Have been watching since march, and I actually ran my first half ironman last weekend. I was just wondering if you have ever thought about making a podcast that your viewer could listen to on their commute. Keep up the good work, best regards from Denmark
Im a big believer in rest days and going super light or even changing the running schedule to suit how the body feels. did two long runs for my level 32k and 19k 3 days apart. then 2 days later did a super light training session and bare foot core and grass work/lateral training drills. This is an example of letting ur body recover and feeling that u arent 100% just yet, before diving into another long or even short sharp sessions
Make sure if you have tightness in calves quite regularly with pain + loss of power. Look at compartment syndrome. Doctor tried telling me i had shin splints, turns out it was ECS a form of compartment syndrome. Issue is if you run through it will get tighter and tighter to the point you struggle to walk fast.
I think the biggest thing is to treat "new pain" with move caution. I have had spleen flareups for 4 years now and its a very intense sharp pain but I know how to manage it. a couple years ago though I got a mild pain but it was in a place that I hadnt had pain before, went to the hospital and I had appendicitis.
I've read about Rest-Ice-Compress-Elevate being replaced by Elevate-Compress-Move in modern physio (many sources by now), but if that's just 2 schools of thought, who is to say for sure who is on the best track. Maybe just something to look into.
AdvEx Heather actually mentions this(not the acronym) but when referring to an ankle injury she says to keep moving and apply heat if it’s minor and to ice and stop if it’s major. Good info to post either way.
I believe I have fat pad impingement in my knee, and have had this for nearly 1.5 years now. It started as pain when I bent my knee past 90 degrees, though has moved around a bit over the last year and a half, with different actions triggering it. At the moment, it triggers when I do hip bridges, and if bending it past 90 degrees and turning it outwards slightly... Not much I can do about it either, apart form giving up running for a few years (which I'm not going to do) :/ In the last year and a half I have managed to do a couple of smaller triathlons, a full and half Ironman, a marathon, and several half marathons (so it's not limiting my training or events)!
Best way to combat piriformis syndrome? I haven't been able to run for about a week now and it keeps persisting. Stretching seems to aggravate it. Doubt I can rest this one off.
11:06 is when GTN becomes one of those scary jump videos. i almost spat out my broccoli from laughing so much at mark. btw. during the earlier physio conversation by the river/canal, i don't think that boat knew which way to go. Each time the scene changed, the boat was going in a different direction
i wouldn't take the first piece of advice. my tendonitis would go away after warming up. so i ran through it until it got so inflamed that i couldn't walk right.
I have been doing some longer runs to prepare for a half marathon. I brought my camelbak a couple times and started having bad knee pain both times. I'm wondering if it changed my gait enough to do this? Has anyone else ever had this happen when running with a pack or camelbak?
Are you in London? I love the places and landscapes you go for running.... Here in greece has a lot of asphault and cars.... :-( whats her name of gtn partner? Love her voice and speaking english... Good videos. Keep up
I usually experience pain in my chins at the beginning of the run, so I start off at a rather very slow pace. This pain eventually disappears as the pace goes up over time.
Do you always run with sunglasses? Just something I’ve never done, I cycle with sunglasses to protect my eyes from particles and bugs. Just curious about running, I do have dark eyes.
Running is bad for you, it is really good fun but it is definitely bad for you. I know this from 50 miles every week when I was a teenager and bad knees since. Learning about rest and recovery, how to properly structure your training schedule and cross training to replace some of your running when needed. Don't think that more miles is better, it's not. Quality training session, over quantity of training will make you faster and give you less bad knees. But remember running is bad for you.
Saying Running is bad is equal to saying eating food is bad. Just get out of your mental prison and start crawling, then walking, then jogging, then running, then sprinting. Become a warrior and not worrier.
I love that you guys don't pretend to know everything and bring in experts to talk about it. Thank you!

You don’t have to have pain, your Achilles can snap without much warning, always warm up before running you need your Achilles
Thank you guys, right when I needed it

Been injured twice this year! Always take a few days break and it goes away!
Thanks bro i tore my acl and this worked
A little off-topic if I may: 11:27 beautiful scenery (not that the rest isn't). Where is that?
Think Mark was running in Wales in the UK.
Hope there are more topics about blisters.
I have a big blister under my toenail and being tortured 😂
Hey - we've covered blisters in the past, check this out if you haven't already 👉 gtn.io/Blisters
I have a repetitive calf strain and I have a feeling it’s when I’m over striding. Do you know how stride length affects calf strains, if it even does?
Have you looked into barefoot running?
