    I just need to thank you. As a new knitter, this is the first pattern I had purchased. your videos literally taught me how to knit. I remember knitting this for the first time and I messed up the provisional cast on because I didn't have a crochet hook. I used my fingers but I couldn't quite distinguish the spines, and so it didn't really zip well. Anyways, it's been a whole year later, and now I have a crochet hook because I would like to learn crochet. frustrated, I couldn't figure it out, and I came across this again... and you did it. You got me doing the chain stitch. I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much.

    This type of sock is a really great first sock for any level of knitting. My first sock was worsted weight - but I think this is really better. Works up fast and the needles and yarn is so much easier to manage. Plus, it really makes it easier to understand the architecture of a sock. Your videos are always great!

    Celia Muldoon - You can hold a lighter weight yarn double-stranded to make these socks, but it's really important that you get the correct gauge (number of stitches per inch) as the pattern for the size of your sock to come out properly. Using lighter yarn and smaller needles will result in a tighter gauge, and a much smaller sock. But holding lighter yarn double-stranded and adjusting your needle size so that your gauge is correct will work fine.

    I just bought this pattern and was very eager to start but I don't own any crochet hooks. determined to find a way to make the starting chain after much googling articles someone mentioned using a crochet hook for a stronger faster cast off, it being the same stitch as a crochet chain. So I tried casting on and casting right back off and yes it makes the crochet chain! Happy knitting!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  6 лет назад +1

      If you pick up stitches to keep from having gaps between the heel and the rest of the sock, as you've described, you can just k2tog those extra stitches out on the next round, so that you get back to your original stitch count.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  4 года назад

      It's bulky yarn...I don't recommend changing the yarn weight! If you have worsted weight yarn that you want to use, you may be able to get the correct gauge by holding two strands together while you knit.

    I LOVE this pattern and have made several pairs. I am particularly hard on my feet and would like to incorporate some "reinforcement " type stitching along the bottom. I thought about incorporating the K1S1 heel stitch into the toes, heels and along the bottom of the foot. But, as I am still a novice knitter, I don't know if this will accomplish what my objective or if there is a better way to go about this. I am already familiar with the idea of using yarn that has nylon blended in, but I wanted to find a stronger stitch, too.
    Any thoughts?

      ***** - yes, you are right. :) When I can, I rip back and reuse the yarn, and sometimes I can save pieces for use in other videos. But I also end up throwing many little demonstration pieces away.

  • @20sandi12
    @20sandi12 2 года назад

    ok, so as an advanced beginner, I have been looking forward to purchasing this pattern, and so I wanted to try the provisional toe you demonstrate. HOWEVER, I did not hear you say that at a certain row you double-wrapped the yarn. I saw it as you did it on screen at 9:45, but you didn't confirm it verbally, so I thought perhaps you had made an error. So I did*not* do it on my own Try. So it is very frustrating to now hear you talk about picking up the double wrap. ERRRRR!! I have to start over again. Perhaps you should fix it.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  2 года назад

      I demonstrate the techniques used in my videos, but you want to follow the pattern for the exact, correct instructions. That said, the pattern is clear about where the wraps are placed, and some stitches will have a second wrap (I wouldn't call it a double wrap).

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  7 лет назад

      Here you go - if, after you finish the heel, you pick up an extra stitch or two to close up any gaps when you start knitting in-the-round again - decrease those stitches back out again on the following round to get your stitch count back to the original number. Working a normal k2tog decrease is all it takes.

The written pattern spells out exactly how to knit the socks in different sizes, and the video walks you through all of the techniques used. However, this pattern will not teach you to knit - it is intended for knitters with at least "advanced beginner" skills, meaning knitters who are very comfortable working the basic stitches. If you have the size of a mans foot and it is bigger than your 8 inches how do you work out how many stitches you will need. 28cm heel to toe( foot length) 33cm Ankle circumference, 38cm calf length and 33cm calf circumference. I have bought your pattern and have enjoyed your video's but I can't find anywhere on the web of how to adapt the pattern for different feet!!!
    thanks

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  8 лет назад

      +Michelle Strange - the pattern is sized for average foot widths, any shoe size. You can't really alter a sock pattern...you pretty much have to scrap the whole pattern and start over from scratch. The easiest thing to do to make a sock for a wider foot is to use a bigger needle size, and follow the pattern exactly as written. That will give you a wider sock. Good luck!

    I bought the pattern and am ready to begin, but I do have a quick question, please. How do I convert the pattern from "bulky" socks to "regular" socks? The yarn I have on hand is too thin for the pattern to work,it's about half the 'bulk' it should be. So, I was thinking, can I just use size 4.5 needles instead of (1/2), or is it best to not do that but try different sizes until I get the stitch to 4 inch guage?
    Thank you for your help!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  6 лет назад

      Sorry - changing the gauge in a sock pattern (using thinner yarn, smaller needles) is not a simple modification, you essentially have to start from scratch and write a new pattern in the new gauge. It is likely, however, that you can hold your yarn double-stranded, using the recommended needle size, and get the correct gauge for this pattern. If you have more questions specific to the pattern, please email me at staci@verypink.com

    hiya, i've done a couple of pairs of these now, on my heels and toes where i do the w+t i have noticed holes along where i have pulled the wrap over, could this be because im wrapping too loosely?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  9 лет назад

      Mark Lancaster - no, it isn't likely that your wraps are too loose. Wraps and turns take some practice to get juuuuust right, which is why I always recommend wool yarn on socks that use this technique. Wool is really forgiving, so little tension issues like that get whisked away as soon as you wash the socks.

    • @verypinkknits

      Sheri Sterling - the second wrap is because you're turning again. The wrap is necessary every time you turn the work, without knitting (or purling) to the end of the row.

      +grace notes - each hank of the recommended yarn is 137 yards/100 grams. For the main color, you'll need half that for each sock - one hank of main color for a pair of socks. You just need about 40 grams of the contrasting color for a pair.

    Hi, I have just started sock knitting and I have learnt toe up using Judy's magic cast on and I was wondering if there is a way I can convert provisional cast on patterns to the magic cast on? Thanks in advance!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  9 лет назад

      Charlotte Medcalf - unfortunately, not really. Patterns that use the crocheted provisional CO (like this one) and patterns that use Judy's Magic CO actually start in different places of the toe. You can rewrite the pattern to accommodate one or the other, but it is not a straight-forward modification.

    • @medcalf2
      @medcalf2 9 лет назад

      VeryPink Knits thank you for getting back to me. After thinking about it, it makes sense that it would be hard to modify the pattern. After I have finished the socks I'm working on at the moment I think I am going to give provisional cast on a go, it can't hurt to learn a new method!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  9 лет назад

      Charlotte Medcalf - I highly recommend giving the crocheted provisional CO a try. The reason I teach it in my sock tutorials is because I like it SOOO much better than any other toe-up sock CO, and people usually have much better success with tension using it.

    • @medcalf2
      @medcalf2 9 лет назад

      VeryPink Knits Thank you so much for your help yesterday, I spent yesterday evening trying the crochet provisional cast on and love the end result, it is also much easier than I thought it would be! I'm sorry to be a pain but I have another question if you have the time! I watched your video explaining German Short Rows and found it much quicker to work than wrap and turns and preferred the finish it gave.I was wondering if German Short Rows could be used when knitting two at a time magic loop socks , in the same way as you do wraps in magic loop by slipping the stitches instead of turning mid row? Thanks in advance!
