The real life story was way more amazing! The real life Frank knew how strong and amazing Annie was and knew she was the better shot. Annie's death made Frank heartbroken and he died only a few days later. 💛😍😍 Wish they had stuck to that version.

It's true what you say, but for the purpose of the show they had to take dramatic license and create some conflict.

Betty Hutton was an absolute giant of musical theater and film. It is so sad to see bad luck in her later years.

Betty Hutton was the best Annie Oakley ever! I own this MGM classic movie on videotape, Laser Disc, DVD and Blue Ray. I was born in 1978. Thank you for posting and sharing this movie magic! I love it! This is pure fun and entertainment!

How stupid to throw the match , she could have easily won

huh! I only saw this version after seeing the production in san diego back in 2013ish. Didn't realize the ending was this way. I guess the people down in sd rewrote the script so that frank noticed annie was losing on purpose and they were matched even in the end. interesting...

I've seen this musical and it's fantastic!

Cute musical, but definitely a product of the times. "Women are supposed to be submissive, men's pride matters the most, etc". Not really relevant now but... hey, we can't pretend people didn't USED to think that way. It's an interesting snapshot of time.

She got the man. She warned the man. Third wave feminism has destroyed women's critical thinking, even in it's cultural or media revisionist history contexts.
Her losing on purpose is NOT a sell out. She got love. Sigh.

First off you are reading far into something quite innocuous and judging something through a very narrow lens skewed by feminist opinions. Not hardly fair or credible in any sense for useful analysis. Quite rudimentary and naive in fact. The fundamental question is, is it better to be right or to be loved? And I’m sure anyone in a long, successful relationship can understand that sentiment. You however have cats. Lots and lots of cats. And pink hair. Good job.

I like the theme being sung with the whole roadshow riding on horses...but they should have had some more women in with the men singing the chorus. It sounds bad with like 5000 baritones singing the song; it should have been a full chorus; SATB; singing the song. The movie "There's No Business Like Show Business" stages this number MUCH better than this.
