One of my fav songs from Annie get your gun also love the wedding one where Annie and Frank sing but Annie's part is the best "I wanna wedding in a big church with bridesmaids and flower girls"
Irving Berlin added "Old-Fashioned Wedding" to the show for the 1966 revival, once again starring Ethel Merman (20 years after the original production).
I just performed this last night and today and we had so much fun with PMA and I just thought I would come back to my favourite song before i stop listing to the songs 😂😭
The ironic part is that originally Judy Garland was penciled in for the role but MGM dismissed her and terminated her contract. Apparently , they didn't want to deal with her issues anymore. Betty Hutton was brought over from Paramount as a replacement and did a stellar job! Years later, even Judy had to admit Betty was terrific!
@Cru4de Smosh What's sad is that the real Annie Oakley was such a modest, humble, unassuming gem of a human. Hutton plays her as a loud-mouthed megalomaniac.
All this time later I realize why I never liked films from this era. Everything was so over-the-top. Perhaps why I so dislike musical theatre as well. So embarrassing to watch them go to such extremes.
@CatMan I disagree. Judy would have given a vastly better performance. Hutton is too over the top, too damn loud and overbearing. All her performances have the skill of a rock and the subtly of a punch to the head. Her hoarse, deep, flat vocals absolutely ruined every song in this musical.
@@shirleypena4133 Betty Hutton's best performance on film that I've seen is in Preston Sturges's great comedy, "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek." Somehow he found a way to channel all that over-the-top energy into a fantastically funny performance.
@@catman3552 Ethel Merman originated the role. On everts list as one of the greatest performers on Broadway. Too bad Hollywood didn’t think that she was pretty enough to carry the role. They said the same thing about Gwen Verdon and Mary Martin.
This should have been a Hollywood Musical highlight by Judy Garland. Instead it's (in my opinion, granted) torture! Betty Hutton's in your face unsubtle to the nth degree delivery ruins a fantastic score. One of MGM's worst mistakes was to recast the role of Annie rather than wait for an overworked and exhausted Garland to regain her health. Madness!
It was common practice for MGM to lip sync the music. However, most of the time it was the actor or actress' own singing that they were made to lip sync to. I think this might have had something to do with the equipment they used to record sound on set vs. in a recording booth, but I don't know for certain.
Obviously..... any actor you see in the movie is not really singing . They record their voices in a studio and play it while their acting so they can lip sync it
@Jenny Green Such a shame that it didn't work out for Judy because in every way imaginable she would have given a superior performance than Hutton does.
I wouldn't think there would be a big demand for this film in Thailand, for it to need Thai subtitles, but I guess I'm wrong.

The incomparable Betty Hutton. What a fantastic performance! Thanks so much for sharing this gem from the golden age of musicals.
What a voice and so much joy!
Back when movies we're great
This is a great song performed by a great actress, Betty Hutton.
She didn’t have a great career considering so much talent.

@@treesny oh i didn't know that I preformed AGYG in nov last year and we sang it so I just assumed it was part of this x
lots of 1940s sas from Betty Hutton in this period piece :---) Betty Hutton had a unique way of lighting up the big screen!
MGM missed out on the opportunity to let the number go on for a few more choruses and turn into a real production number. However, Betty is wonderful.
I believe there is a longer version of this. At least I thought there was.
I may be confusing it with what comes naturally
Luv these old show tunes & I just luv Betty Hutton. Always have. 🥴
This is a great movie! Betty Hutton knocks it out of the park!

I don't think Judy or Ethel could have topped Bettys performance in the role of Annie!

@MrPatry101 I agree 100%!!!
I disagree. Betty is perfect. Judy was miscast
Hutton has these violent movements like she's in a martial arts film, lol. Merman would have been far superior.
Her voice isn't synchronized...😬

Ethel was better. This was really over done. She took a really happy song and raunched it up.
JUDY WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER!!!
@Jenny Green Such a shame that it didn't work out for Judy because in every way imaginable she would have given a superior performance than Hutton does.
Can't stand the actress she makes it unwatchable.
You don’t get it.
Gosh this is horrible. Over acted all the way around
