Looks like this thing is going quickly from Parts Car to Project Car. There's a whole lot of potential in this little thing, though it's certainly not without needing some fixing. What do YOU think? Bring it back to life as a cruiser? Or a more "factory" style race car?
Take all the good usable parts from the race/track car and build a tidy little weekend warrior/cruiser using the Kermit/booger shell. Just gonna throw this out there....take the race/track car shell and build something along these lines....😁 ruclips.net/video/Q06fJqg1OIA/видео.html If you build it they will come....🚗💨
well my uncle had a 74 black capri w/ the 2.0, a little head work,a header, iskie cam, Offenhauser intake & a 390cfm holley, talk about a fun lil hot-rod maxed out was 124mph & that was back in the early 80's, so ya the Booger mobile can be reborn into a hot-rod. good luck, great content & will be here to continue the quest for speed & coolness
With this engine being "freshly rebuilt" before it was parked there are a WHOLE lot of questions as to what's in it that we just flat out don't know the answers to. We're all assuming it was a pretty well "stock" rebuild but no one really knows. That little 2.0 has got some potential for sure and probably the best option for making it a racecar. That's how the white racecar was built for competition. There is definitely an above decent chance we do a little bit of hotrodding with this thing eventually 😉 It's a shame almost no one in the states knows anything about these cars!
@@LucoreAuto I owned a 1974 Capri, same engine manual trans.. My first car when i was 14 in 1980. I am a disabled Army Vet Desert Storm. I would love to get another. Would you be interested in selling it ?
It really came back to life MUCH easier than we expected and with what the cylinder walls look like... we may be in luck for a great little machine. Hopefully have her driveable soon!
Always a joy to see one more oldschool ford brought back to life. We call those engines here as "cam lathe"s, just as explained in the video, make sure the oil tube is clean or new.
Have to say, it took a lot less than we expected to bring this thing back to life. It didn't really fight us at all, huge thanks to the previous owner! Will certainly be taking a look at that next. Not looking to ea lt up a camshaft right away!
Great fun video! I WAS WAITING FOR MORE CAPRI VIDEOS! Let the " green machine" EVOLVE NATURALLY!...SO far its going great! and looking like a fun cruiser....
Hope you've enjoyed it so far, this one really has potential to move forward quickly. The tank is out and being cleaned now, once that goes in we'll fire her up again and see just how healthy that engine is. Likely could be a cool little cruiser by spring!
The rack may still be good. What's wrong is there is a plastic bushing in the end of the rack housing. Most likely it broke up and if you remove the rack and disassemble it you will find the pieces. I had a Capri rack do this exact same thing. I must machined up a bronze bushing to replace it. You can still get the plastic bushing but to me bronze seems more permanent.
Yes for being the car for the Hot Rod Powertour. I would call it Mr.Patina. I would leave it and sell it on as it is too good to become a parts car or a race car.
It very well COULD be the Powertour car this year, we'll see. It won't have air conditioning so... that could get a bit steamy on a trip through the South in June. It's probably keeping basically these exact looks and just getting clear coated. Maybe a little bit of satin black for accents.
The red button was part of the seat belt interlock system. Starting in 1974 you had to buckle your seat belt in order to start your car. On a Capri all you had to do to defeat the system was to cut the wire under the driver's seat. If you look behind the right rear side panel you will find the "Seat Belt Logic Box". There will a bunch of wires running from it to under the dash. Remove the box and cut the wires under the dash.
Back in high school I owned a 72 Pinto station wagon with a 2000 cc engine, 4 speed manual transmission and ac and would stomp any other small car around me!! It was a runner!!
We've heard a lot of people really loved the little 2.0 Pinto motors in these things... and apparently with some racey parts they can make some pretty decent power especially in a 2000lb body
I still think it would make a great daily, in high school, my last year 37 years ago, there was 4 in the parking lot, but one had a warmed over 302, and 1 had a built dirt track 2.3 ,both were quick and messing with everyone 😀
The played with 2.3 NA Lima or even a 2.3 turbo Lima build is sooooo tempting. The 302 thing just feels kind of, I dunno, wrong. We have one sitting on an engine stand though
Here in Australia, a common engine swap is a Holden inline six or a Ford 250 inline but what they lack in cubic inches, they make up in handling with a 2.0 I4. This one would be a good looking car without those hideous bumpers. Shame you guys didn't get the decent chrome bumpers.
@@LucoreAuto In the UK people would put the Rover V8 in ANYTHING (rather like the LS is now) so I think a 5.0 V8 in the race chassis would be quite entertaining. Unless you WANT to go LS with it? ;)
@@dave.harmon Yeah, but you have to admit that Essex V6 was a SOLID UNIT of a plant! It was initially designed to be a diesel. The main demise of the 3.0 engine was people with 2.0 Pinto engines stealing the 38 DGAS carb off them rather than serious mechanical failure (unless anyone has a horror story about one they'd like to share?).
It's actually kind of an attractive color, what's left of it. We may give it some polishing and see how much shine comes back. Otherwise it's probably keeping the patina style. Oddly we also have an extra hood this exact same color.
Thanks for the heads up. Norm at Team Blitz is pretty on board with this project and very local to us. You see him in the video with us here, worrying about the fire extinguisher 😉
I have that same stupid seatbelt thing in my maverick. Not sure if it is still hooked up since I bought this car from a friend but I plan to rewire my car with a ron francis kit and clean up the 250 inline 6 and butter it up with sniper 1 barrel efi and hyperspark ignition.
Hi, Do you still own your Capri? Would you be interested in selling it? If you don't own it and know who does, ask them if they want to sell it? The 74 Capri was my first car..
In the UK we called it the Pinto engine. It was found in everything from regular family saloons to stupid power kit cars, and the bottom end was the base for the Cosworth 16 Valve turbo found in the RS Sierra
