I’m a white woman of European decent, born in America. When I converted to Islam 18 years ago now, I just had enough with everyone’s problem with me being Muslim and wearing a scarf on my head, so I immigrated to the Middle East. I don’t have time for Western culture dictatorship over my body and what I wear. If they want to punish me because of what I wear, like not give me a job and just make life hard on me, they can have their Western culture. However, I do find it interesting when I see tourists from the West come over here to the Middle East and have no respect what so ever for our culture, traditions, and Islamic ways. Westerners are dressed in ways that people here find insulting or shocking. The West wants everyone in the world to be like them, act like them, dress like them, talk like them. No thank you West, not interested!
Good Interview. The other day I cycled past my local publicly-funded secondary school here in Canberra (Australia) and spotted a small group of hijab-wearing students enjoying each others company. Australia has a secular constitution, but wearing hijab's, abaya's etc in schools and in public is widespread and socially accepted. The French Republic is to be condemned for these bans.

Condemned ? But it's our culture of intrgration which is different that yours. If I go in a muslim country I accept the rules. Foreigners who come in France have to adapt themselves like 15.000.000 of french muslims who are against abaya in school. Abaya is not a outfit of north africa but was imported by the terrorists who comitted massacres during 10 years in Algeria, before coming in France with the same influences for djihad, women outfits and so on. A few month ago a teacher was brheaded in front of his school a lesson about freedom of speech. The last week the father of one of the young girl wearing an abaya wanted to kill an employee of the school. Do we have to change our laws for a little minority of foreigners ? NO Do we have to accept religious violence ? NO Do we have to forget 500 victims of attacks, murders ? NO Do we have to protect apostats or gays victims of the muslim communauty ? YES French have not to change. You can't come in a country to take some advantages without looking at what don't please you. If you support islamism go away very far from Europe. And as french christian I am happy to ear some muslims explaining concretly their point of view as citizen for social and political peace than a religious speech explaining to young girls they don't have to agree to the laws of their country.
Thank you for this interview. In France people are commenting abaya, in fact the text is far mor permissive. Any cloth that is religious by destination can be banned. In other words if you wear a long skirt and are a muslim you can be banned but if you do it and are a fashionista no problem. Our girls are desperate. We can still order ethnic skirt in the hope that the accusation of racism is more infamous than that of islamophobia that is almost a praise for patriotism
As a by born and practicing Muslim I often think about what the world needs to be like for Muslims if we start to protest or fight against the oppression of those who are playing nasty games against us only to dominate us and destroy our societies across the world, looting muslim countries resources by using violence/proxy wars in the name of terrorism or some kind of political ideologies. Then I realize that our beloved Prophet (PBUH) said that his there will be times when his Ummah the Muslims would face tremendous oppressions and crucial challenges by the non believers yet we the Muslims will achieve the highest level position in the world after fighting against all the oppressors and would also be able to establish peace/stability across the world by the grace of almighty Allah.
Conveniently left out the plight of minorities in muslim country eg illegal conversion , killing people , destroying the place of worship and when things turns around you people winge about everything...

Can we please cut some slack to those of us who are Muslims and don’t wear headscarves? We’ve fought many barriers to get where we are and continue to do so. My work involves a form of community outreach and the Muslim/hijabi women are just not interested in engaging with me/us. In fact, some of them have a sort of arrogance whereby people like me are looked down upon because I choose to work and they’re at home raising their families, as if I’m not! Also, please don’t forget- we are a religion of intentions, so headscarf or not, we’ll be judged according to what’s in our hearts and how we act vs wearing an item of clothing and pretending we’re holier than though.
It's bad to view non hijab women as bad Muslims. Islam doesn't force women to put on the hijab. But we should not also forget the consequences of not doing it, in the eyes of Allah.
I heard in France, they show Abaya ban as religios ban. But reality in ground is this: Girls try to skirt Abaya ban by wearing Normal loose dress. Still they're not allowed bcz they know they're Muslims who wear loose clothes. So only way to get entry is short clothes.
@@likeicecream8421 Just follow the rules of wherever you live. If they are not happy, then they can return to their Muslim countries. What is difficult to understand about that?
Muslimahs such as yourself are so very inspiring. I feel like a Neandertal trying to convey my inner mind into words and fumble around. But you have the background of a journalist and put it all together so well! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I'm working up the courage to get back to wearing hijab. I treated myself to 2 beautiful extra large Shayla hijabs and some very nice under caps that are rather upmarket but will actually fit my thick hair and big head (thick skull, not large brain 🤪 ). Because the mass-produced under caps from China are utterly hopeless for a big Crow Indian woman!! I look ridiculous. Small tedious details but they really help give me the courage to wear hijab much more often!
Best line be kind to each other . Marriage is all a out consideration about each other and Islam teaches us to be consideration towards our human brothers and sisters.
France has Milked so much natural resources etc from African Muslims countries for hundreds of years and is still milking so many countries assets up today you would think they would not care what Muslim women wear. Great video thankyou.
Absolutely right sister Lauren. You only have to look at the children’s clothing rails in supermarkets and the female children’s clothing is sexualised and has been for years. My children are now adult but this was the case back then which I objected to at that time, I wasn’t a revert at this point. Our poor children are being boxed into what is a socially engineered sexualised way of being … and the ignorant don’t even realise it !
Maaşallah sister Lauren ❤🤲 may Allah bless you. Very powerful message throughout this interview. Iam also a british revert living in Türkıye. I thank Allah everyday for the very dificult but wonderful journey to Islam and to allow me to adapt to the Turkish culture, which is to me being a breath of fresh air.
As always in France, the law goes touch much larger than what is actually advertised for. In this case not only abayas are prohibited but all clothing that covers the arms. Last week girls in kimonos were refused home and their parents were called. Girls with long sleeves T-shirts too. Girls with the same pieces of clothing were scrutinised to guess which of them were wearing them for religious reasons and then exclude them. On these grounds only, this law should be fought in courts for discrimination. The situation is just ridiculous!
In the US, you can request a female doctor. Non Muslims also do it. Whether it can be accommodated is a different matter but many non Muslim medical staff will try to accommodate it.
My advice to sisters: do not depend on a strong sister like her to always take the lead. Many hands make light work and can be much more productive. Each of you have the ability to do what she is doing. My advice to the brothers: be men again! Stop throwing the women out front, constantly having to defend themselves and our religion. If our "so called" leaders ie: imams, scholars, community leaders are satisfied with being meek, weak, soft and apologetic then demand more from them or get rid of them! So many have become pathetically out of shape physically and mentally, that I question whether they could defend themselves, leave alone their families. Sounds harsh? Too bad! Grow thicker skin! Toughen up! Get into the gym! You want to lead our Ummah? Then lead it like a man and stop being human marshmallows .👊

Muslims are targetted because Hijab is seen as a symbol of Islamism; a political ideology seen as the enemy of the West, and also by most Muslim governments.
Head covering of women's hair was first written into law by the Assyrians in 13th Century BC to make women pious... this would predate Islam, Christianity etc.
This is very much needed in our family circles.. Though uncomfortable but such discussions are now requirement. What nice idea to bring up talk shows wr u rnt involved directly with ur daugghters... Though present time demands it from fathers to be ready to explain to their kids islamic discipline... And learn language to be used and make the choice of words correctly.. Such talk shows can be very useful...
This non sense, trash has impacted muslim youth horribly... We can see the impact already.. The raising number of unmarried.. The delay in marriage... The rising number of divorce.. These are painful.. And as muslim... It is painfull to see this in our community... The rulers, the scholars tge community got to dp smthing abt this..
Living in a non-muslim country where I can freely choose and live in our society as a Muslim woman, I wonder of the experience of hijabi travellers (for business and leisure reasons) to these places that have these anti-modest, anti-Islamic-wear etc. policies.

Fascinating podcast. Excellent views and perspectives shared by sister Lauren and so respectfully and wonderfully chaired by the host brother Jalal. Women in the west are subject to huge harassment and discrimination is a fact but yet politicians and media outlets continue to keep the focus on attacking unjustly the basic principles of Islam. This only reinforces how lost and defeated aggressive liberal secularism is and that it’s resorted to such illogical irrational methods. It also further cements that we need to continue our ways of engagement and dawa as by every day it further exposes the evil ways of capitalism. In particular how women in the West are only seen as worthless objects that in their prime can offer a masculine driven society some pleasures before they are abandoned. Sister Lauren your book In search of The Holy Land, is highly recommended, that both my wife and myself read whilst on holiday. It was so touching how you honourably addressed your marriage challenges and in was wonderful to read how beautiful your relationship was with your father. We eagerly anticipate your next book. Sister Lauren you also need to do more short bite size presentations on feminism and correct Islamic positions in Islam as we have a endemic of marriage and family breakdown in our societies that are leading to unprecedented mental health issues. My practice is in mental Health and I can’t explain the dire situation our communities are in and the way we are headed. JazakAllahokhairun sister Lauren and brother Jalal for such an inspiring podcast.

Had to comment - brother Jalal looks way too young to be the father of a 20-year-old! Mashaaa Allah. May Allah preserve him - Allahumma Barik.
Ma sha Allah. This sister is so based. She gave me some good reminders and somethings to think about. May Allah swt reward her.
Yes, I'm an Australian convert to Islam. I'm so proud of Australia for being so chill. Aussies are usually kind and accepting. I'm glad I live here.
@@beth1979 I'm an old fossil that grew up in the racist and intolerant Australia of the 1960s. We've made so much positive social progress in Australia in the decades since then. @@cblackall21thank you so much for all the hard work you and your generation did in the 1960's to build the beautiful country we have today. And thank you for your kind words. God bless you (no offence if you are an atheist).

NO
Do we have to accept religious violence ? NO
Do we have to forget 500 victims of attacks, murders ? NO
Do we have to protect apostats or gays victims of the muslim communauty ? YES
French have not to change.
I have learned so much from this conversation. Sister Lauren explained everything so well. Would love to listen to her more on other subjects as well.
Lovely hearing the prospective of this sister.
Thank you for being a great example for young women, muslim or not!
Selamu alejkum!
My favorite episode to date, this sister is saying it as it is. Thank you and may Allah ta'ala accept your efforts!
JazakaAllahu khairan for the brilliant interview with our dearest sister Lauren, packed with common sense truthful knowledge.
Truly worth watching
brilliant discussion
What a great talk. I enjoyed every minute of it. May Allah bless everyone involved in this podcast.
Jazaa kumuLlahu khairah to both of you
Really enjoyed it!
What a fantastic podcast- I wish the world could listen to this. It is so liberating ❤
Utterly compelling viewing. Brilliant interview.
Conveniently left out the plight of minorities in muslim country eg illegal conversion , killing people , destroying the place of worship and when things turns around you people winge about everything...
masallah these questions were refreshing, keep up your work brother
It was really worth to listen to your podcast and to suscribe to it. Mashallah and Alhamdulillah!

Looking forward to this one Inshaa Allah. Sister Lauren is a gem.

name one muslim society except turkey where women have a choice- say thanks to Ataturk for Turkey
Ah my favourite so far ❤
I witnessed sisters shahada at the peace and unity event in London.
Thanks for interviewing this lady. She is very beautiful.
Even the European women used to wear something similar to the hijab just 60/70 years ago
no they didn't
I heard in France, they show Abaya ban as religios ban. But reality in ground is this:
Girls try to skirt Abaya ban by wearing Normal loose dress. Still they're not allowed bcz they know they're Muslims who wear loose clothes. So only way to get entry is short clothes.
Muslim Lies
You people are wired to lie and say half truths.

Mashallah good questions and fantastic answers
That is great questions

Much love to you all ❤️
France has Milked so much natural resources etc from African Muslims countries for hundreds of years and is still milking so many countries assets up today you would think they would not care what Muslim women wear.
Salamoe aleyküm barakallahu fike ya teacher fore your information.
Great interview!
loved every minute. Alhumdullilah
Maaşallah sister Lauren ❤🤲 may Allah bless you. Very powerful message throughout this interview. Iam also a british revert living in Türkıye. Great Interview
Incredible discussion!
I enjoy your conversation ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

The guides are there & people are willing to follow too, the problem is not being able to practice without being judged & consistently condemned!
Not just by others but our own society too!
The dignity that us middle aged, and also older women, are given in Islam is the same as in our Native American tribes. 💖💖💖 I am an Auntie now too. This is not recognized by Western secular culture but now I am a Muslim so that doesn't matter any more.

I have never understood why Muslim women are targeted with the hijab? ALL religions advocate covering your hair, not just for women, but for men too.
She is brilliant again. MashaAllah. May Allah accept her.
What a conversation..
We in middle east are feeling tremors... We r feeling heat.. I donot want to imagine what it is in west...
Living in a non-muslim country where I can freely choose and live in our society as a Muslim woman, I wonder of the experience of hijabi travellers (for business and leisure reasons) to these places that have these anti-modest, anti-Islamic-wear etc. policies.
It was good to meet you in person. Your viewers ought to know that the Thinking Muslim is not just the competent podcast host you see here but also a very generous Muslim. He left early a table of over ten heads at a restaurant in Istanbul, including some leading Anglophone scholars, having settled the bill alone surreptitiously.

Amazing woman masha Allah
My practice is in mental
Health and I can’t explain the dire situation our communities are in and the way we are headed.
