  • Harbor Freight Hoist rated at 1,300 LBS is used to lift heavy lawnmowers or pull engines. I show how to mount your hoist in a unfinished garage. Remember to work safe and always place jack stands under the machine before starting work. Pittsburgh Automotive Item # 60344 . I lift the rear wheels of a SCAG off of the ground with ease!
    Thanks for looking..

Thank you - I'm using my tractor with forklift attachment to pick mine up but want a quicker way to get mine up and this might be the ticket. I recommend everyone use jack stands and go a bit over the max rated capacity on all the elements of your lifting system from straps to the hoist.
1,000 pounds will kill you if it falls on you; most accidents happen at the home.

After this video was made I purchased a set of lifting chains made to lift engines. Then I mounted the rings of these chains on solid lift points behind the seat of the Scag. So these rings are on the machine and when I drive under the hoist I simply connect the lifting chains to the hooks on the Scag so I don't even bother with the slings. So it's a modification that makes lifting the machine even faster. I think a hoist is the best way to raise up a lawnmower for service.
Even to move heavy things to or from my truck makes a hoist in a garage a must have.

You have the red disc and spring assembly on the wrong side of the pulley/hook assembly. The idea is for it to hit the rectangular metal loop on the hoist which shuts the motor off. The spring provides a bit of "give" to avoid damage. But otherwise nice job!

I added hooks to the frame so it's even easier to lift the rear end off the floor. The hoist is a must have for me. I use it all the time for lawnmowers.

Had a manual hoist for many years now, but I add a simple 6x6 beam from the floor to counter-support the joists, thus the joists aren't taking much weight at all. Better, just buy a Jungle Jim mower jack and be done without rigging your house!

The Jungle Jim is rated at 800 lbs at the lift point but the lift appears designed for the front of the deck, not the rear at the engine.
Also this is 1,300 lbs and he needs to get to the hydro belts etc. under the rear.
Bottom line is that he will be under the mower and the wheels for the jungle jim will be in the way; can't lift it high enough from the front to adequately wrestle with those belts.
Good idea on the 6x6, very solid thinking on your part. Vertical compression of a 6x6 is definitely adequate.

007 Connecticut, I would like to know what you have on your air canister system the green straps around the cap and intake? I assume you are sealing the air filter system better when you are mowing leaves? Is it working for you and what did you use. Thanks

When I run the 3 bagger collection system on the Scag doing my fall pickup, the dust is tremendous. I found the air cleaner stays much cleaner if I add the green pre filter Briggs and Stratton filter on the outside of the air cleaner. I just place it at the openings and secure it with a zip tie. Now after the work is done, I just remove the filters and its really 100 times cleaner than the first time I ran the machine before I added the pre-cleaner filters. The Kawasaki Engine filters are expensive so I found a way to not have to replace them every year.
Do a search on Amazon for this . This is what is on the machine currently.

Those quick links are NOT rated for that.

Do you want to live forever? :) The machine weighs 1100 pounds. I lift one side up. So I lift 550 - 650 LBS on the whole lifting system. The quick links should be fine lifting that. To be safe If I go underneath I always use jack stands or a set of logs under the rear wheels.

I'd like to know if the HF hoist could lift this tractor higher. I'd like a similar setup, but I need to hoist up my JD EZTrak Z225 about 4 feet off the ground for storage purposes (so my car could fit in front of it).

My ceiling is 8' so I can't lift things over my head. I use this hoist all the time. I have a Sears lawn tractor and I had that off the ground on 4 wheels to work underneath it last year. A month ago I serviced my Scag zero turn and I used the hoist to lift the rear off the ground. Look in my latest movie to see the ease it lifts it, then I sit on it to bleed the hydros. The only thing I don't care for is the speed of the cable. As it winds up fast. Double the cable for strength and to slow it down a little. The hoist is strong no question. Put 2 hoists, front and back for safety. Or buy a 2 ton model. Use good safety chains when the machine is hanging in storage.

If you lift a big mower like that too steep and keep it there, you'll likely have fluid leakage.

  • @lawnpro979
    @lawnpro979 5 лет назад +1

NO NO NO it doesnt double the strength..... If you have 1 80 pound chain. Connect it to a porch swing, it's rated for 80 POUNDS! if you add another one to the other side, it's still RATED AT 80 POUNDS.......together they are rated at 80 POUNDS NOT 160

    • @007connecticut

The chain capacity never increases, but the lifting load will double. If I had 10 chains on that swing I could hold 800LBS.
