You missed an opportunity during installation. That piece of metal you bought at Home Depot is called a strut. There are things called strut trolleys that run inside the strut on bearing wheels. You could have mounted the full 10 feet and made a gantry crane.
I am a plumber who uses Unistrut, Kindorf, etc., not a structural engineer. You could build a bridge with this stuff. Online is how to use it correctly. The more I learn the less I know. Some are called shock load, angles that add three times (3X) the safety factor-just saying, Danger Will Robinson.
Oh man, that is an awesome idea, when I get to the point where I can clean out my garage I'm going to be installing I left two because I have two motorcycles that I need to work on and that would help stabilize them where I would not have to worry about them falling over while I'm working on. You have a great day. Hope your home repairs go fast and you're back in as soon as possible. I know what it feels like not being able stay in your home, several years ago, I had a fire three days after Christmas and it was late spring before I got to move back into my home. It was no fun at all.
Great review of a product I need to get for my shop. New friends here from Ben amd Andrea @ VWFF. We are so sorry to hear about your house amd praying hard for y’all. 🙏🙏🙏
Hi friends, at present, our TYT brand electric hoist is being promoted and used in the American market. If you are interested, you can contact us directly, and you can get it for free, looking forward to your reply.
Go straight to 2:47 to get started . . . . . . after all the chit chat and "I'm gonna git up on this ladder right over here. . . " to just 'sort of' cut to the chase.
Thank you ! You answered my question with a minute. I was wondering if 440lbs was with the snatch block. Seems like it is. Thank you . On my way to get one now
Always get the next size up vs what you expect to need. It's still going to be lower rated than you need later... Really, get the 650 lb single cable rating (1300 lb labeled box) as the minimum. And the "UnisStrut" channel used to hang it isn't even safe for 200 lb in that application. It's meant to hang a fixed load on the side of a metal building such as the breaker panel. Any shock load can fail that channel.
your garage is NOT Built to Have a Load Put on it, You are going to end up Collapsing your garage in on yourself. Good Idea But You need Proper bracing from the floor
The cheap straps at Harbor Freight ( appx $12 for a set of 4, occasionally the set of 4 are in the Harbor Freight Members' free with purchase list.) will lift your hard top. One per corner. Easily within their rating. They can lift a full size fiberglass pickup shell. I just used some to lift 6X12 ft metal barn doors in place while welding in the hinges.
Does this hoist have an automatic limit switch or stop switch when bringing the hook up? In other words, if you were to keep pressing the UP button does the unit have a safety switch so that you don't wind the hook on to the cable roll? It looks like it does.in the video. Thank you for answering
I was thinking of getting one so I can raise my electric bike up off of the floor for the winter months or even after each ride to give me more space in the garage. How would you attach a bike to it. I'm thinking handle bars and seat but I don't know how to have two points attached without it tipping one way or the other. Help
Everything that came with it is still there. Not exactly sure what spring your talking about. I have the cable looped so I can increase the strength with adding a pulley. Maybe your referring to the black stopper with is still attached?
Dude… very likely your building trusses are not designed to support your hoist load… neither is the uni-strut support..Very unsafe.. accident waiting to happen…

First time here. Came over from VW Family Farm. God is good all the time
Jack, this is great info. Thank you. As a woman, homesteading alone, this would be amazingly helpful
Been using mine for 25 years. Still works great.
Just bought one to lift stuff to the attic. Works PERFECTLY. Good vid.
Hightech equipment useable everytime. Thank you for sharing.
I just heard about your home. I am so sorry! Glad you all were able to get out and all of my thoughts and love are with you during this time. ✌🏼 💜

Very good explanation on how to set this hoist up. Well done, sir! Thank you for posting this video.
I made the same thing with one of there $40 12v winches, i mounted it in my garage rafters with a 12v batrery
How do you let the load down safely? Or rather,....."watch the hell out!"... safely?
Thanks for your time
@@hightowerone you just hit the "winch out" button and it reverses
Nicely done, been eyeing that hoist for the exact same reason . I've got a similar roof structure in my garage

How do we contact y’all directly ?
@@tyt-4wd744 Why get scammed by you guys when we can buy a product from a real company?!
That roof structure does not seem to be able to support your 440 lbs. I can see the roof collapsing under that kind of weight.
I recommend installing a cable from the electric control to the winch. The wire to the control could get damaged if you don't.

I have a grinder and vises but I can't fix anything! Many vises!

Muy buen video. Good

Could I cut the plug off and somehow run it off my truck battery?
You would need a converter. No plug cutting. 👍👍
Awesome video
Where did you buy the strap to lift the top to the jeep? I’m planning to left my hardtop Mercedes convertible and need to find strap.

How long did it take for you to bend that unistrut?

yes, that disc on the cable hits a bracket, stopping it.
his rubber puck is on the wrong side of the pully.
Hi
Quick question.....will the hoist slide on the beam when under load?
Thanks
Good question, I haven’t tried it like that yet. Shortly after this was installed we had major storm damage to our house and we haven’t used it since.
What’s the width of the metal where it slides?
I was thinking of getting one so I can raise my electric bike up off of the floor for the winter months or even after each ride to give me more space in the garage. How would you attach a bike to it. I'm thinking handle bars and seat but I don't know how to have two points attached without it tipping one way or the other. Help
Never had a bike so I wouldn’t know the best way.
I would use a cloth strap sometimes called a tow strap. Are you from Europe?
What did you do with that spring thing? That's on the cable
Everything that came with it is still there. Not exactly sure what spring your talking about. I have the cable looped so I can increase the strength with adding a pulley. Maybe your referring to the black stopper with is still attached?
Can we slide the hoist once it loaded with weight of 100kg
Question, after two years is the hoist still working for the Jeep top?
It sure is!
Do you think your setup will hold 250 lbs easy? Thanks
Cook new toy!
can it keep the load up permanently?
That’s the difference between a hoist and a winch . Hoists have brakes . Winches don’t . It says it will - but , caution should always be used .
What would you call that bar to mount the hoist ?
Perforated unistrut
How do you know the structure can hold this weight?
No way would I use that before putting in more support.
Would you trust that motor to lift a 220 pound person?
With the pulley attached, making it a double line, it will hold 440lbs.
@@freedomhomesteadky Thanks, not exactly what I asked about but will do.
I have a video, “Harbor Freight 1300#+ Hoist” that shows a different view of hoist installation. T wagner RUclips.
