Did I Meet My 2024 American Girl Collector Goals?? (w/ASL Interpretation)

- At the beginning of this year, I set several doll collecting goals - some loftier than others. I made a video about it and said, "HOLD. ME. ACCOUNTABLE." I promised to check back in at the end of the year and let you know how I did.
What about you? Did you set any goals for 2024? And if so, how did you do? Will you be setting any AG-related goals for 2025? Let me know in the comments!
Also, this video is ASL accessible. I generally upload one interpreted video per month, and you can find them all in a playlist on my channel :)

Hi Kristie! I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas. Thanks for sharing your goals and how you did from last year. Well done I would say. 😃 I think you always do a good job making doll content that isn’t all about opening new dolls. That is another thing I will try to continue as well. We can be more creative using the dolls and items we already have. My only goal at the moment is to not purchase any dolls in January. I may buy accessories though since I am in a monthly subscription with virtual doll convention and I have a coupon for MapleLea to be used in January. Other than that I look forward to another fun year in the doll community!🥰🙏☺️☃️🎉Happy New Year!
I need to give thought to a doll number limit this coming year because I don't want to say "only ONE!!" or something that will be so hard to stick to, but I only have so many that I'm willing to part with, so it's a goal I need to ponder more. I look forward to seeing what you get from MapleLea and I'm so glad both of our channels have a balanced approach that doesn't just focus on unboxings :)
My goal is to start properly documenting the process of making my Maplea&Me doll's journal, I've gotten started on it (going all out with canva) but it occurred to me that instead of bombarding my friends and partner with constant tiny updates i could make lil videos of some kinda and ramble there! IDK why this didn't occur to me sooner 🤣
Oh, I totally think you should do both. Document it AND bombard your friends and partner. That's my approach anyway lmao.
1. Inventory system on a proper spreadsheet.
2. Learn to sell and sell a bunch waiting to go out.
3. Implement a "One in/ one out" policy
4. Complete certain outfits that are missing a critical part.
5. Post to Instagram at least a couple of times a week.
6. Track my spending vs. Income from sales.
7. Sew or knit one significant item monthly (average) for the girls.
All these ideas i hadn't thought about concretely but they are all a result of seeing Kristie's goals. Thank you.
Other than that, my New Year goals are all health related and will automatically take presidence. These doll goals are mostly fun and a great distraction.
I love that you've set some very concrete goals! I'll be rooting for you and hope you'll let me know how it goes in a year :)
@agtakesover I will if I succeed 😂😂
congratulations on meeting your doll collecting goals
Thank you! I'm pondering next year's at the moment, but also taking time to acknowledge how proud I am that I met this year's :)
I added 3 big ticket items to my collection this year: the coffee shop and Claudie’s bakery before our store closed in February and Corinne’s bedroom on cyber Monday. Maybe a little regret on the bedroom due to space but it is so cute. I purchased 17 dolls this year which is almost half what I got last year so I slowed down there. Impressive how well you handled your budget this year. Nice!
I know how much we both miss the store, but I do think its closing has slowed down your doll purchases. And I know Corinne's bedroom doesn't fit well in your space, but it *is* a lovely BTI!
What a fun wrap up to the year! You did really well this year! I didn’t really set any collector goals, but I didn’t really want to buy any dolls this year. I failed because of Tiana. I also won a Ruby Red doll and purchased another at their huge clearance sale this spring.
My goal next year is going to be a one in/one out. I really want Moana so Corinne is in the chopping block. I’m considering Cinderella as that’s a childhood favorite movie but I’m also waiting to see who might be released this year. Anna or Jasmine as a playline doll or Mulan would Trump Cinderella. That puts Lanie or Marisol in the chopping block. Can you believe that I’ve never gotten rid of a doll?
My AG purchases have fallen so far down. I barely bought from them this year. I’d like to continue that next year, just saving my space and money for truely magical things on sale.
@@melangellperry5984 Yeah, a one in, one out approach will be harder this coming year because we sold three of the jointly owned dolls we were willing to part with and I can't get rid of dolls that Grace owns or co-owns without her buy-in. And dolls that are exclusively mine are definitely the minority.
Your crafted doll foods are so impressive. I still can't get over that trail mix! My goal this year was to meticulously track my spending (and profits from things I sold) and YIKES did I spend way more than I thought I would! I would like to set a budget and stick to it (probably reduce spending by 50% or more!). For dolls, I plan on purchasing Maplelea doll Leonie, but have no other specific dolls in my plans. AG sadly hasn't been making much that I want to buy anymore, so I will probably go after some retired outfits that I have on my wish list. I also would like to finally find shelving for inside my closet so my dolls can be on two levels and won't be squashed together so much. I need to utilize all that wasted vertical space!
These are fantastic goals! And I'm so proud you tracked all your doll spending and income. I think VERY FEW of us do that in the community and it *is* eye-opening to see the numbers. It sounds like seeing that in black and white has prompted you to make some changes. And I'd love for more of us to have that kind of awareness.
Great job on your goal! 🏆 💐. I’m also trying to hold down purchasing dolls but we will see how that goes. My main goal is organize my small craft/doll room better. I still can’t remember where I put the remaining winter outfit I had leftover after I had dressed my AG dolls. Searched all boxes, drawers etc…maybe our pup stashed it in a safe place for me, idk 😂. Bet I find it when it’s back to 115 degrees in mid summer here. Anywho….well done on your goals, I really enjoyed the doll pics as you signed.❤
Yeah, making "SMART" goals ("only buy 3 dolls" vs. "buy fewer dolls", for example) and putting them out there for others so that there's some accountability both go a long way toward *meeting* your goals. And organization is a BIG goal for me this year. Not just in the doll spaces (they're actually better than a lot of the rest of my home), but EVERYWHERE. I requested and received a home organization journal/workbook that I'll be using all year to systematically go over every spot in the house and purge, evaluate, organize, etc. I want my spaces to *work well* for the way we live.
I love that you set goals and met them! Now that I have all the historicals, and girls of the year, and 99% of the dolls, clothes and items available, that I want, it’s time for me to start curating my collection. I have so many duplicate dolls (some triplicates and 4 Kits). I need to sell some of my duplicates, and some of the dolls that don’t give me the joy the others do.
I will keep at least one of each historical and GOTY and most likely all my Kits and Mollys. I also plan to spend a lot less money this year. No new dolls except GOTY or any new historical unless I absolutely love her (or him).
I think that's a great plan! I think I've settled on adding no more than two dolls this year (and maybe I'll surprise myself and add even fewer!). I'm feeling really good about adding less and just enjoying the gigantic collection we already have. One thing I'm going to have to change to do that is: stop browsing "american girl" on FB marketplace, and so far that's going well.
Wow, great job with accomplishing your goals! I love how intentional you are with your collection. I'm hoping to grow my accessories collection in particular (dolls for the dolls, lunches, school sets, etc) this next year. I just love posing the girlies with things in their hands 😂 it makes my display feel much more life-like. Hope you and your family have a wonderful new years celebration! 🎉
I think accessories are a great way to go - it's easy to find new and old ones you like and they don't take up near as much space as dolls or big ticket items. And I agree - it's those little details that make it feel so much more realistic :)
I remember how excited you were to show off your trail and chex mix! 😂
My doll goals... the main one I was excited to add Felicity's Faire Outfit, which not an easy thing to find. Her collection isn't complete... but I have had fun added Rose's Titanic dress and a flight suit for some fun field trips with my dolls!
OMG no one was safe from my excitement about the trail mix and chex mix. My pride hasn't diminished one iota either lmao. Those are nice goals. I love how intentional you are about your collection. You're leading by example ;)
Congrats on your goals! My goals next year are to reduce my collection overall and Budget and track my spending. I always budget monthly, and if I have a little left over at the end of the month after paying rent and necessary bills- I might go out to eat, buy a doll thing, get my dog extra treats, whatever spending that doesn't necessitate keeping a roof over my head and food in the fridge. But I dont have a yearly overall budget for my hobbies.
And I'm just the opposite - GREAT at tracking and budgeting for doll stuff, but I don't have near as much awareness of my spending in other areas of life. I'm VERY intimidated and more than a little anxious to take it on, but I want to truly tackle non-doll budgeting in 2025. I'm planning to try YNAB - I have no experience with it but generally hear very good things. Wish me luck!
@agtakesover yes! Ive tried YNAB. Its based on the envelope system. I have found apps too hard to be consistent with, but we did switch to a cash envelope system and its working much much better for us. Good luck!!
Love this video! Could you consider doing a video on selling things and how to use PayPal to do it.
I'll consider it, but tbh I haven't done much online selling at all lately. And it would depend on whether you're selling through Mercari, eBay, FB Marketplace, FB Buy Sell Trade groups, or some other option. I'd recommend joining a couple of Buy Sell Trade groups for American Girl Dolls on FB first, and then you can see how others approach selling, how they price, what kind of info is required, what kinds of photos they include, see individual listings vs. purges, etc. And if you decide you'd like to go that route, you can google how to create invoices with PayPal Goods and Services.
@ thanks for your help
Thanks for sharing! I didnt know setting collection goals was a thing and now that I do, I'm excited to implement. As of now, i only have 11 inch dolls, no 18 inch dolls yet, Im waiting to get a bigger space before I fully dive in. Here are my 2025 doll collection goals
1. Create a mini me CYO
2. Learn to maintain and restore (and reroot for 11 inch dolls). This way I know how to fully care for my dolls once my collection gets larger.
Nice! I think many collectors' goals are more wish lists, but I think "goals" is a more flexible term because it encompasses the things we want to acuire, but also the stuff we want to learn, to do, to change, and to get rid of it. Helps me have a more balanced approach to the hobby. Welcome to the world of 18 inch dolls - you may find some helpful restoration and general care videos on my channel (nothing about re-rooting, obviously).
Your goals were very realistic. It takes dedication and self control to stick with a year long goal. Congrats 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you - I was proud of myself because I did more than the minimum in terms of doll crafting and tutorials. Those were definitely rewarding and I want to keep it up this coming year. The clay foods had a gentler learning curve than I was braced for :)
Thank you ! Yes being more mindful of what I’m adding to my collection. I have a hard parting with anything from my collection , however I’m parting with some boxes 📦
I have a much easier time parting with things than my wife does. I think sometimes she offers to go halves on a doll purchase with me just so that I can't sell it whenever I feel like it lol. But I think knowing that about yourself is critical because you can say, "If I'll have a hard time parting with this, maybe I should pass on it in the first place so I'm not in the position of having too much or having things I don't genuinely love."
Congrats on meeting your goals! Very impressive.
Thanks - I wish I'd been more selective about the big items, but at the same time only one of them is *definitely* going to be permanent.
I would love to see a video of how much your channel makes! Love videos like this breaking it all down! Congrats on reaching your goals! ❤
Thanks - I'll add it to the list. You know by now that I'm big on transparency so I don't mind at all.
Your crafts were amazing and I felt the same way about the trail mix - why are you posting your snacks? :) I love your custom Kanani in Tiana's green coat with the white dress. I like that outfit with the yellow dress, but the white dress looks so much better! And I LOVE your $1.51 out of pocket expenses this year! That's amazing! That prompted me to add mine up, minus what I sold, and you did MUCH better than I did. :) I was $202 out of pocket with my custom Claudie and a few other items. I think you did wonderful on all of your goals. And I love all of the doll photos in this video. And THANK YOU for the reminder about the Saline doll sale! It's only about an hour from me, so I am planning on coming. :) I will save my pennies so I can help you re-home some of your goodies. :) Happy New Year!!
Oh, thank you! (for the compliments about the crafts, for planning to come to the Saline doll show, and for taking the time to comment). Happy New Year, Beth!
Not a goals comment, but I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your videos. You will never know how much they have meant to me this year. Happy New Year to you and your family!
Thank you - your support has been so heartening and I'm really happy my videos have been a comfort. I promise to keep them coming in 2025 :)
I heart Mary Ellen’s airstream. It’s so much fun, it’s huge and so well executed. I love it so much I was thinking of getting the HP train since they are almost identical and could also be so much fun.
I think in terms of price, the Airstream is more affordable. And for anyone trying to limit or avoid support of JK Rowling, the Airstream is the obvious choice. Also, I really just LOVE the Airstream :)
@@agtakesover that’s right avoid JK Rowling merch. I forget thanks for the friendly reminder.
My goal is not to spend any money on dolls, dollhouses, or AG furniture in 2025! I have purchased so much since August. I placed my last Etsy order for the year today. The goal is to enjoy what I have in 2025. I also want to get my dollhouse RUclips channel up and running again. I started it in 2017 but was diagnosed with breast cancer and put everything on hold. Happy New Year to you and your family!🎉
That's a BIG goal. I do best with goals that don't require total abstinence from something. Like I'd do better with saying only $200 for the whole year instead of zero. But I know that for some people an absolute hard line is best. You can do it! Does that include doll clothing? Also, I'm looking forward to watching your videos if/when your channel is back up and running :) Happy New Year!
@ Update: I’ve already failed on Day 2 of 2025. LOL.
I'm so impressed, Kristie! You did a phenomenal job of meeting/exceeding most of your goals! You totally inspire me with every one of your videos. wow, that trail mix looks so realistic!! All your food items look terrific. 😍😍
My main intention is to reorganize my AG doll room so that I enjoy it and use it more!
Wishing you and your wonderful family a happy, healthy, and joyful 2025. 🎀🎀💕💕🎇
Thank you! Reorganizing is a big one for me this year too - I'm tackling every space in the house! I'm going to be in it for the long haul this year, with organization. Luckily, the "donate" part will be easier because where I live you can call the National Kidney Services number and ask "when will you be in my area?" and they give you a date, you tell them how many bags or boxes you'll be setting out, and it's basically that easy. I just had them pick up 5 today, and plan on keeping them steadily supplied all year long :) We can do this.
@agtakesover ooh, thanks! Will be great to have a virtual buddy for this! 😁
10:55 WOW that is impressive this was my first year really getting back into it, but now I’m am for sure setting a budget for 2025! And congrats on meeting your goals! I am thinking what other goals I want too…
Yep - I'm giving some thought to my goals, too. Mostly more of the same, but I'm thinking to only increase the doll head count by 2 for 2025. Our collections is just very large and there are so many dolls for me to enjoy that I think I should set fairly strict goals around the doll count. And I want to focus a lot of energy on organizing this year. I want to be sure I can easily find and enjoy all of the many items in our collection!
Happy New Year!!!
Congratulations on achieving your goals 💜
For this year 2024 I had different goals that I have failed miserably LOL... So, no goals for 2025 Well, yes, I will try not to spend so much on shipping and taxes a lot of my money goes there and it's frustrating!
I wish everyone a happy and better new year full of love and dolls 😘
Maybe instead of no goals, just revisit why they didn't work? The whole SMART goal (is it Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound?) approach helps me. Also, Happy New Year!!
What a great video! Always appreciate your transparency. Great to hear your goals and try to think through some as well!
Thanks! I am contemplating only two additional dolls this year and very little from AG. I haven't set concrete doll goals yet for the year, but I think I'm going to lean even more into enjoying the huge collection we have without expanding it. Now my wife is another story - who knows what she will buy lol.
@agtakesover Haha, I loved the ending. Get it, Grace! ❤️👌 I was blown away by the out of pocket spend. 👏 Impressive!
Great ideas, I need to set more goals! Happy New Year! 🎉
Thanks - what kinds of goals would you set?
@ I’ve been overspending, so cut back on that! Also keep better documentation on what I do have!
I do have a few goals myself. I only wanna bring in at most, three dolls this year. One I'm already asking for as a birthday gift from my boyfriend. I want to collect more innerstar u era outfits because I loved seeing that era in the catalogs. Last goal is to get a dollhouse. I have some furniture and add-ons already, but not a lot so far.
Those are some great goals - especially the doll house. I know you've been looking forward to that!
@@agtakesover Yes, I got a lot of dolls in 2024 since I just started collecting again so I wanna slow down on getting dolls and be more selective with what era of dolls that I wanted as a child. My holy grail right now is Cecile if I find her for a good deal, though I won't likely dress her historical all the time. Though I asked for a truly me I really wanted as a kid for my birthday. Yep, I'm excited about the dollhouse. My grandmother gave me the bedding I had on one of my dolls' beds as a kid that I thought was gone she sewed for me on Christmas. It's almost like part of my childhood collection is back.
My goals are basically to do less impulse buys and buy more shoes as some of my dolls are barefoot though maybe I have shoes that were just misplaced in the move but I still feel like I need at least a few more pairs.
Less impulse shopping is always a good goal, for sure!
I bought 5 dolls this yr and I only want 7 or 8 next yr and I’m done after that it’s clothes
I think I'm going to buy even fewer dolls in 2025. Our collection is so large and has so many beautiful dolls in it that I think I can be content to just enjoy the ones we have. Who are you hoping to add?
My doll budget is kind of insane to most people but I have to not have a lot of money in the bank in order to get help for my disability so I usually spend about 800 per month on doll stuff to stay under 2 grand in the bank so I can get medcaid and all the benefits of medcaid. I know for others that is not the case. Expenses could be higher for someone else or they might not have a disablity so they can keep more money in the bank. So everyone has their reasons for why their doll budget is higher or lower. I think a lot of people if they are able to keep money in the bank then they would want to keep more in the bank then to spend a lot on doll stuff. I do sometimes sell things but it's not very often that I do because it's often hard for me to get to the post office now that I don't live right next to it anymore. Plus I don't think most things I'd consider downsizing would be worth enough to make much money. I tend to always keep things that are harder to find and have value because I either like a lot or know I wouldn't be able to find them again to rebuy. ❤
There is no way I could spend that much on dolls per month. There's simply not that much I want (and I would definitely not have enough space). I know many people need disability benefits to make ends meet in terms of rent and groceries, but some need it more for the medical coverage than the other expenses. I think if I needed to keep my bank balance under a certain amount, I'd be inclined to buy things I could donate (toiletries for a free store, toys for a toy drive, etc).
