- In this clip we take a look at another classic from the Terry Pickering classic dirt bike collection. This featured 1971 360 Square Barrel Maico was never really a bike at all originally as this was built from the many spare bike parts Terry has in his pocession.
The 360 was one of the fastest scrambler I ever rode at the time. When you opened it up you took your life in your hands. Being a two stroke if you pushed it backward it would run in reverse. Those were the days my friend we thought they would never end
Simply beautiful
Thank you for the great show.
I wasn't aware of a 360.
400 and the 501 is my favorite Square Barrel. Ake Jonnsen was one of mine mentors with Roger DeCoster. #18
I was just getting into bikes about the time the piecemeal bike came to be. I remember being offered a ride on a square barrel Maico but knew I didn't have the skills yet to handle it. I believe it was a 501 and above my meager skills at that time. Thanks for showing us this, Chris. Have a Blessed Christmas my friend. P.S. I had Bing carbs on my early Huskies and bought the bikes with a handful of jets. People used to cuss the Bings but I found when jetted correctly they made better top-end than the Mikunis. The carb I detested was the Amal......it was about as sophisticated as a brick with holes put in it with a rat-tail file. Haha. P.S.#2 - Nice of you to mention Rick Seiman in your upload - what a character! He definitely was in the Maico camp and I remember how he always cussed the clutch lever pull and recommended keeping a magnetic drain plug in the Maico engine, saying that the magnet was the "crystal ball" in knowing in what shape the primary chain was in......if you saw metal flecks, you probably needed a new chain. Seems to me that Rick either built or had someone build a 760 single cylinder Maico. If my failing mind correctly recalls, it was easier to ride than a 501 due to the fact that you simply could not rev it due to balance vibration. I don't know what piston they used.......maybe one from a John Deere tractor! Ha. I'd bet the 360 was sweet to ride.....do you know how the builder came up with a 360 cc displacement?
Thanks Chris , good video it’s a old bike maico fantastic to see this , your fan Henri put belgium 🇧🇪 cheers friend 👍
Hi Henri glad you liked it . . Merry Xmas to you and all your family and all the best for 2023.
I rode Cali.desert with a down swept expansion chamber, had to fix dents occasionally.😁
