This song was mentioned first in the chapter where Diana and Anne first met and Anne told Marilla that Diana will teach her this song. I got curious and I never heard more devastating song in my life. This is so sad

This song expresses how I feel like sometimes just going to sit on the grass near them, and just be silent for awhile.
Takahata Isao has moments in episodes where the overall environment makes you think of this song even if it is many episodes after the first time you heard it. Then, he plays it somehow. This is clear in the episode of the Tea at the house of the Minister's. It's like he reads your mind. Takahata's use of music is one of the best of all times. He knows what to do everytime.

I come here because of the “Victorian parlor song” site, one song there is “Hazel Dell”. Seems many beautiful sentimental songs, would eventually become a standard “parlour song”.
By “parlour song” it means they are typically sung in house parlour of middle-class family in UK and US in 1840-1910s.
I discovered that, many songs that I love, come out to be a "parlor" song being sung on that site

I've also searched for this song because it's mentioned in a book I'm reading but the book is 'Shetland, a love story', it's a collection of letters a Shetland couple wrote to each other during their three-year courtship between 1858-1861. Fun fact - they lived 30 miles from each other which was too far to see each other regularly so they had to write letters instead 😯 30 miles! The song is mentioned in one of the letters the woman sent to the man in 1858, telling him she'd learned a few songs to sing to him on his next visit, including this song.

Anne of Green Gables, yep! A perfect book for a unit study. I read two or three chapters each day to my teen girls for school, then I keep a running list of vocabulary, literature, music, art, history, and geography topics to study, then add miscellaneous things of interest. I keep an assignment notebook for each girl, and use my list to write their assignments for the day.
It's a very fun and satisfying way to learn.
