Alan Thompson's Songs of Bygone Eras

Alan Thompson's Songs of Bygone Eras channel, contains numerous popular, classical and children's songs that were written, composed, and published prior to 1910 as sheet music. On it you will find videos that contain the lyrics for both sung and instrumental versions of each song, to enable you to sing along to these beautiful old songs.
My instrument of choice is the guitar, recorded on computer; the music being played in very slowly, line by line, from piano sheet music that I purchased from Op Shops and Secondhand Bookshops. Once on the computer, the notes and chords have then been highly edited to produce rather pleasant music recordings. The sung versions are in my own voice, singing both the Male and Female parts and songs.

What a piece of Music! I came to know about this "When Sparrows Build" song when I was studying a text by SYLVAN J. MULDOON and HEREWARD CARRINGTON. Their writing mentioned that this was played by Jenny Lind but couldn't find that piece anywhere. These tracks are way gone from our lives. But these lyrics should live forever among our souls as long the scarlet sun rises in the far far North. Thank you for sharing.

It makes me wonder if the songs of my generation will be as forgotten as the songs of yours.
A good question. With the recent copyright reforms, allowing for copyright to be retained for up to 75 years after the death of the artist, along with the move to digital rather than durable paper, then it is likely that only the most popular will survive. I wonder how durable the digital scene will be: after all it reel to reel tapes, tape cassettes, CDs have basically disappeared due to being superseded by better technologies.

This song is very nice I sure hope it doesnt have anything to do with this random werid series called 'the oldest view' which is based off of the valley view mall in Dallas Texas with the art creation put in there chasing a teen around in the dead mall of the valley view ;3
The song was composed sometime in the 1800's, so no, it has no direct connection to the Videos you mentioned. Kane Pixels asked for my permission to use it, and I granted that permission. It is indeed a beautiful song.

@GamerGalaxytb The short answer is no. However it should be possible to convert RUclips videos to MP3 and then burn your own CD. I "Googled": software to convert youtube video to CD, and the AI came up with: "Here are some ways to convert a RUclips video to a CD: Use a RUclips to MP3 converter Convert the RUclips video to an MP3 file, then use a CD burner to burn the MP3 to a CD: Y2Mate: A RUclips downloader and converter that supports many formats, including MP3 YTmp3: An online application that converts RUclips videos to MP3 format SSyoutube.mobi: A free, web and mobile-based program that converts RUclips videos to MP3 files " Then the CD can be burnt. Alternatively I have my music on SoundCloud in MP3 and WAV format and you can download from there. However, I don't know if you can use such files for CD burning, as SoundCloud is a streaming service and the plays of users are counted towards my account music plays.

@GamerGalaxytb Thank you. Much appreciated. However, after 6 years, RUclips has given me nil. I have just reached 1000 subscribers, which is one of the thresholds, but the other is 4000 hours of watch time in the previous 12 months: I am about a thousand hours short! Doing this project has illustrated to me very directly why the music industry is upset by the disruptions caused by the likes of RUclips, streaming services and the Social Media! It is of interest though, that SoundCloud is now paying me, but that is because their model is based on people paying for their SoundCloud subscriptions. RUclips is about advertising revenues and that means that the subscriptions are mostly free. RUclips is moving in that direction by having an advertisement free service for paying subscribers.

Ahh, the memories! In my primary school days (also 1950's) my teacher (I had the same one for 3 years) was keen on rerse speaking: we'd travel to the large town 20 miles away to perform in the eisteddfod there.

Thanks for singing! This song has been used as the hymn of a Chinese university called National Peking Railway Management College from 1936 to 1950, which is now Beijing Jiaotong University. The Chinese version of lyrics was written by a teacher of that university who has been to America for studying around 1910, so this song might be quite popular at that time, but it's no longer being sung since the BJU used a completely different hymn (by the way it really sucks), even the university itself doesn't know the source of its old hymn, but luckily I finally find it. Again, thanks a lot！

I learned this song in the fifties while a secondary school student at the Annie Walsh Memorial School (AWMS) for girls in Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa!! Founded by CMHS missionaries 175 years ago, we had African & British ( English, Irish & Scottish) teachers. Many Sierra Leonean families have 'Campbell' as their last name! There are many other Scottish last names including 'Stuart'. I am now a Stuart by marriage but from my African American husband! Out of the clear blue, I began to hum & sing 'the Campbell's are coming' & decided to Google it as I only remembered the chorus fully! It brought back cherished memories of my wonderful education in Sierra Leone & at the AWMS in particular...memories of wonderful, dedicated teachers & strong syllabus established & monitored by the government Hope you enjoyed & learned a little bit of other worlds from my brief trip down memory lane inspired by this song!
