David phones the Samaritans after his relationship with Bianca becomes more and more uncomfortable.... Also more of Sharon as we move towards her departure.
Watching this now as an adult I realise how daring it was for EastEnders to tackle Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA) in 1995. I was at school at the time I saw this storyline and my mates & I were laughing and making fun of the writers for depicting this. But as an adult now, I just feel pity for David Wicks. After all, Carol Jackson told him she had aborted Bianca, so he didn't meet her until she was a teenager and did not develop a natural bond as her father during her earlier years. And bloody Pat knew who Bianca was before David turned up and just watched them flirt (WTF?!) and she hardly provided a stable home for Simon & David, since on her deathbed David confronted her about during his childhood when he walked in on her having sex with an unknown man when she was married to his violent stepfather. He later found Pat was prostituting herself. Then Pat also lied about their paternity and changed her story so frequently, is it anyone wonder this man has no idea how to relate to his daughter as a father? A lot of people will say this is gratuitous, but I think it is one of those stories that will remain eternally relevant and the one taboo that no mainstream show will want to deal with. Michael French's acting her is brave. It's not an easy subject to tackle and in my opinion EastEnders' bravest moment.
alex jones who knows... he still fancied her even after knowing who she is! Fucked up, but EastEnders has always been the best soap at tackling uncomfortable issues.
I don’t think the storyline is about David fancying Bianca it was to do with him unsure of his feelings about what love is. As an earlier post said, him & Simon had a terrible & traumatic childhood where Pat was neglectful and sleeping around a lot so they both had a very chaotic, troubled, unstable & unloving home life. He’s confused when he starts having feelings for Bianca as he never had love from both parents, so how on earth is he to know what that feels like. I think the storyline was done extremely well.
