I stumbled upon your awesome pottery throwing videos this morning and ended up watching ALL of them. LOVE how you explain every single little thing you're doing. I used to throw pottery a couple of decades ago and even had my own wheel and kiln. I've been away from it for about 2 decades and just jumped back into it a few weeks ago. I was actually looking for a video on throwing a lidded, straight-sided cookie/snack jar. Wish you had one! Thanks for all the great info. Very inspiring! :)

Ah I see it is the Potter his own self; not a helper, but Simon with his voice up close! Ha! It was indeed a pleasure to watch you and your Japanese "cousin" throw and talk pots last year in Philly. Well worth the visit, and a chance to pick up some great tools and a couple bowls, too! --bows, -Ken
Thanks for the tip on using the newspaper to move without deforming. I always seem to end up with them out of round. Will have to try your trick next time!
Simon, do you ever attempt to mimic a form you saw from another potter as an exercise? I could see students attempting to do so to learn form and control of the clay, but I don't know if an established potter would do so.
DrizztFan23 I would do it ! anytime when I get an inspiration from another pot or potter I try to emulate it in my own way, it never turns out exactly the same but it is a great learning exercise. We all do it whether we admit it or not ... beginner or established !!
@@sleachpots Reading this a bit late BUT everyone (everyone) gets inspiration from others. Alterations on a design are commonplace but you have to start somewhere.
Hello Simon, I think some kinda psychic stuff is go'in on lol last time i saw your video on firing ,i was firing then yesterday i got the urge to try to throw big so i broke out my recycled clay and had a go and i get up today and see you are doing a vid on throwing big. perhaps an episode of un solved mysteries is in order!saw a vid of a korean dude throwing big yesterday , you might want to check it out you will be amazed his name is lee sung ho i believe he only has one vid but he was totaly amazing
