I've been with this song in my head for quite a few weeks since new year (2024), maybe because I'm 29 and it really just hit me how out time in this world is limited and maybe we'll never have the chance to do it again. In Buy The Stars she sings "We come alone and alone we die", but the middle part of it (the part where we live) is meant to be enjoyed with the people we love, to the fullest, the maximum we can. Like a Black Mage in Final Fantasy 9 once said "The joy of living with them far outweights the fear of death."
This is probably my favorite song from her. It deals with the topic of love in a very original and almost universal way. She touches on the concept of immortality and expresses the deepest and most innocent human desires which makes the lyrics so majestic yet so honest and expressive. Along with the video, the song creates an interesting combination of eerie, dreamy and intense. All with Marinas voice which is one of a kind, of course. Even after 2 years I still return to this song, as it is one of the most relatable pieces. To me it is very personal and intimate.
Marina's lyrics are intelligent, sad and shocking. That's why I appreciate her so much. This music inspires genuine emotions... I have a few favorite artists, but probably only Marina with her music can bring me to tears or make me happy.

Actually, she's dropping things in an organized fashion. She called it her "Froot of the Months", and she'll be releasing a song from her album "FROOT" monthly on dates that match the month. (January 1st, February 2nd, March 3rd, etc.) The next song is called "I'm A Ruin" and will be released 2/2.
***** They're just promotional singles. Froot of the Month is just a promotional thing to add to the Froot hype. While some of them are singles for airplay and music videos and crap, like Froot and Immortals are, Happy was just a promotional single for download.
The reason I love this song so much is that it doesn’t have to be about romance. It can be related to familial love and friendship. Immortal to me feels more like a song about the bonds with the people you love rather than one specific person who you’re in a relationship with.
I love Marina 'cause as of yet I haven't found another female pop/alt artist that sings about such darkly interesting topics (immortality, death, identity, society, aesthetics etc). Each song is like a 4 minute sociology class, all set to a background of catchy melody. Not surprising she spoke at Oxford Uni recently, she seems really intelligent; rare for the industry she's in.

Fun fact: I found out about Marina and the Diamonds way before I heard anything about Lana Del Rey. The Family Jewels album was the time, when I first got an interest in Marina's music. Lana got my attention only when Born to Die album came out, because it had a massive success and her songs where on every radio channel I ever listened at that time. To all, who believes that Marina is copying Lana: No, she is not. They have their similarities, hence, music style, meaningful lyrics, and sometimes even the singing manners, but they both create absolutely diverse songs and worlds for their listeners. Marina sings about more or less controversial things in a playful manner, for example everything that is wrong about Hollywood or that you are not a "robot", while Lana sings more about relationship related things and her feelings. They are like doom-filled ballads (Video Games or Summertime Sadness). Marina's voice is more playful, girly - her songs feel more lively and lighter/sweeter, while still preserving seriousness that is hidden beneath. Lana's vocal is deeper, she's got that masculine kick in it, which makes her songs to hit you hard in the feelings because of the combination of song lyrics and her voice. Well at least, this is how I see it.
Vincent Escolano Lana and Lady Gaga co-write their songs but Marina has written legit 90 percent of the songs by herself. And actually produces them herself. She's more talented than them in my opinion. However, all are amazing artists.

Last time I listened to the whole of this song my grandma was slowly dying.I haven't been able to listen to this song completely for about a year. But either way thankyou Marina for this track it will forever hold a special place in my heart.
My grandmother passed away slowly over the course of 1.5 years and I know how difficult it must have been for you too. I hope that she left peacefully and that you and her loved ones have found your own peace. From one stranger to another.
This video is so beautifully made, the symbolism of the home-videos playing behind her is a clever way to quite literally say the past is behind her. Seeing these videos in chronological order as they breeze by is symbolic of how time/life goes by so quick - the only thing that doesn't breeze by is current Marina, where she is in the moment. Finally, as she walks off in the end definitely means the present is already behind her as well as she steps further into the darkness, the unknown - the uncertainty of the future. Bravo, Marina - powerful song and equally as well thought out powerful imagery!
Actually, the home movies are being projected onto her so she is seen as being part of her past but also experiencing them in the present, thus giving an illusion that she is immortal.

Marina isn't meaning immortality in the literal sense in this song so much as how we reach immortality by leaving behind remnants of ourselves: our experiences, our ideas, and all the emotions we leave behind in the hearts of those remaining after we pass on.

This song's message will always be so relevant. We try so hard to curate these perfect lives, through social media, material purchases, our outfits and personas. But none of it is infinite. It is finite and when we die, it all dies with us. All the memories of it die, too. I do wonder if it was a source of inspiration to Marina, because I see so many similarities, both thematical and lyrical. Both convey a sense of finality, imagining the end of the world by fire and ice. In Frost's poem, fire and ice are symbols of two forces in human nature, and he links them to desire and hate respectively. He depicts how we can be consumed by both these powerful forces, and how that in turn can mean the end of the world. In both poem and song, ice follows fire. With Diamandis, seems that fire represents the tumultuous emotions connected to death or loss, and ice the hateful numbness that comes after. In a broader interpretation, this may be was Frost is talking about too - that loss is connected both to riotous desire and cold hate. There is also an interesting use of the word 'twice'; while Diamandis says that she would buy 'forever' twice if she could, Frost states that if the world were to perish twice, it could do so by both fire and ice. Even as an adult, you never get over losing a parent. Unfortunately its something the entire world must deal with. its often said that Immortality would cheapen life, but I would take that a thousand times over then losing someone like that ever again. I'm so so for your loss.
Today I got hospitalized because i fainted again and fell and severly damaged and bruised my throat area, and I've been having trouble breathing. I've battling with anorexia and body dysmorphia for 5 years now and recently it's only been getting worse. I also lost one of my closest family members, my grandfather. He always cheered me up, comforted me, tried everything to make me happy and smile. I really wish that I could have spent one more day with him and show him that i can change for the better. I've just recently got listening to Marina and her music is so special to me, she just reaches deep into my soul and makes me feel this happiness that i thought i have long forgotten. This woman is truly a blessing to this world and I'm entirely grateful to be living in the same age as her.
You know it's funny because a lot of people say this isn't that great or the lyrics suck but I actually relate to this song a lot. I've lost people I love to death, which is what I think this song is about. I also think she sings about having a fear of death, which I have. And also living life to die with out fear.

THANK. i love EH for a lot of reasons, but im definitely glad marina found solace and made froot. EH was great aesthetically but the theme(love) wasn't all that creative. meanwhile froot has a bunch of different themes & marina doesn't have a specific theme she hopes people take away from it, unlike froot. the people who wish EH came back are so insensitive and selfish imo.

@MARINA, when I met my girlfriend Ana, she introduced me to your music. She had been a huge fan of yours. and I instantly became a fan on the first listen. Our mutual passion of music is one of the reasons that we fell in love. Not a day would go by that we wouldn't send each other music videos to check out. It kinda symbolically became a way of sending each other love notes in the digital age. Those notes ended late last year when my beautiful Ana lost her battle with Covid-19. Now your song "Immortal" has a deeply personal meaning for me. Listening to it brings me sadness, but that sadness is bittersweet because it remains of how lucky I am to have known Ana during her too brief time in this world. Now I carry the love that we shared until my final days. So, thank you Marina. Your music helped bring Ana and I together and now it will forevermore keep her Immortal in my heart.

I've always thought she looked like a museum curator in this video and laughed about it to myself, like "Marina serving looks in this depressing ass video lmao" but now that I think about it, I think she's going for the curator look because she's showing us her collection of images and videos from people's lives, whether these people be in her life or others' lives. She is essentially putting the human condition on display, analyzing what makes events in human life special/worth living for and comparing them to the idea of immortality through her lyrics.

I think Lana and Marina are both amazing artists, but I see no need to put them up against one another. They are both not your typical pop artist but both of them interpret the world differently and their songs are subjective towards their feelings and experiences, so I think it's quite unfair to compare them because they're both very unique.
This song/video make me shiver every time I hear/see it. The lyrics are so beautiful and deep. The video is emotional because it brings the sadness that it's to lose a loved one and remember memories from the past.

+Dystopian Palace that was my experience with Forget, was so disappointed when I first heard it, but now it's my second most listened song of the album after Savages. Most of the songs grew on me except for Savages which I instantly loved.

When I listened to the whole Froot album, I don't think I liked one song except Blue. But after a second time I loved them so much. I think that's what makes Froot so unique. Once it grows on you, you can't stop listening to those songs.
My grandfather was one of the few people I felt loved me while I was growing up. He passed away when I was still a child. He left too soon. Although I spent little time with him, every moment was precious to me. My favorite part of this song is at 1:44. The lyrics reminded me of him, but when I saw the video and saw that it was a grandfather and his granddaughter, it moved me greatly that they placed it right at that part of the video. To me, he is immortal; he will always be in my memory.

I've been with this song in my head for quite a few weeks since new year (2024), maybe because I'm 29 and it really just hit me how out time in this world is limited and maybe we'll never have the chance to do it again. In Buy The Stars she sings "We come alone and alone we die", but the middle part of it (the part where we live) is meant to be enjoyed with the people we love, to the fullest, the maximum we can. Like a Black Mage in Final Fantasy 9 once said "The joy of living with them far outweights the fear of death."
This is probably my favorite song from her. It deals with the topic of love in a very original and almost universal way. She touches on the concept of immortality and expresses the deepest and most innocent human desires which makes the lyrics so majestic yet so honest and expressive. Along with the video, the song creates an interesting combination of eerie, dreamy and intense. All with Marinas voice which is one of a kind, of course. Even after 2 years I still return to this song, as it is one of the most relatable pieces. To me it is very personal and intimate.

They're just promotional singles. Froot of the Month is just a promotional thing to add to the Froot hype. While some of them are singles for airplay and music videos and crap, like Froot and Immortals are, Happy was just a promotional single for download.
The reason I love this song so much is that it doesn’t have to be about romance. It can be related to familial love and friendship. Immortal to me feels more like a song about the bonds with the people you love rather than one specific person who you’re in a relationship with.
It reminds me of the love I have for my mother.
I love Marina 'cause as of yet I haven't found another female pop/alt artist that sings about such darkly interesting topics (immortality, death, identity, society, aesthetics etc). Each song is like a 4 minute sociology class, all set to a background of catchy melody. Not surprising she spoke at Oxford Uni recently, she seems really intelligent; rare for the industry she's in.

Fun fact: I found out about Marina and the Diamonds way before I heard anything about Lana Del Rey. The Family Jewels album was the time, when I first got an interest in Marina's music. Lana got my attention only when Born to Die album came out, because it had a massive success and her songs where on every radio channel I ever listened at that time.
To all, who believes that Marina is copying Lana: No, she is not. They have their similarities, hence, music style, meaningful lyrics, and sometimes even the singing manners, but they both create absolutely diverse songs and worlds for their listeners.
Marina sings about more or less controversial things in a playful manner, for example everything that is wrong about Hollywood or that you are not a "robot", while Lana sings more about relationship related things and her feelings. They are like doom-filled ballads (Video Games or Summertime Sadness).
Marina's voice is more playful, girly - her songs feel more lively and lighter/sweeter, while still preserving seriousness that is hidden beneath. Lana's vocal is deeper, she's got that masculine kick in it, which makes her songs to hit you hard in the feelings because of the combination of song lyrics and her voice.

This video is so beautifully made, the symbolism of the home-videos playing behind her is a clever way to quite literally say the past is behind her.
Seeing these videos in chronological order as they breeze by is symbolic of how time/life goes by so quick - the only thing that doesn't breeze by is current Marina, where she is in the moment.
Finally, as she walks off in the end definitely means the present is already behind her as well as she steps further into the darkness, the unknown - the uncertainty of the future.

I love this song, and the chorus in particular made me think of the poem by Robert Frost. I do wonder if it was a source of inspiration to Marina, because I see so many similarities, both thematical and lyrical. Both convey a sense of finality, imagining the end of the world by fire and ice. In Frost's poem, fire and ice are symbols of two forces in human nature, and he links them to desire and hate respectively. He depicts how we can be consumed by both these powerful forces, and how that in turn can mean the end of the world.
In both poem and song, ice follows fire. With Diamandis, seems that fire represents the tumultuous emotions connected to death or loss, and ice the hateful numbness that comes after. In a broader interpretation, this may be was Frost is talking about too - that loss is connected both to riotous desire and cold hate.
There is also an interesting use of the word 'twice'; while Diamandis says that she would buy 'forever' twice if she could, Frost states that if the world were to perish twice, it could do so by both fire and ice. The former is almost a subversion of the latter - Diamandis wishes for a second infinity, while Frost envisions a second ending.
While there are many similarities, the song and the poem take fundamentally different stances on the subject of deah and loss; Diamandis is mournful, reflective and pleading, where Frost on the other hand appears laconic, distanced and critical.

Today I got hospitalized because i fainted again and fell and severly damaged and bruised my throat area, and I've been having trouble breathing. I've battling with anorexia and body dysmorphia for 5 years now and recently it's only been getting worse. I also lost one of my closest family members, my grandfather. He always cheered me up, comforted me, tried everything to make me happy and smile. I really wish that I could have spent one more day with him and show him that i can change for the better. I've just recently got listening to Marina and her music is so special to me, she just reaches deep into my soul and makes me feel this happiness that i thought i have long forgotten. This woman is truly a blessing to this world and I'm entirely grateful to be living in the same age as her.

@MARINA, when I met my girlfriend Ana, she introduced me to your music. She had been a huge fan of yours. and I instantly became a fan on the first listen. Our mutual passion of music is one of the reasons that we fell in love. Not a day would go by that we wouldn't send each other music videos to check out. It kinda symbolically became a way of sending each other love notes in the digital age. Those notes ended late last year when my beautiful Ana lost her battle with Covid-19. Now your song "Immortal" has a deeply personal meaning for me. Listening to it brings me sadness, but that sadness is bittersweet because it remains of how lucky I am to have known Ana during her too brief time in this world. Now I carry the love that we shared until my final days. So, thank you Marina. Your music helped bring Ana and I together and now it will forevermore keep her Immortal in my heart.

I can't believe this album was released 10 years ago. It was my adolescence soundtrack and I will always treasure it. I will always love Marina ❤
I've always thought she looked like a museum curator in this video and laughed about it to myself, like "Marina serving looks in this depressing ass video lmao" but now that I think about it, I think she's going for the curator look because she's showing us her collection of images and videos from people's lives, whether these people be in her life or others' lives. She is essentially putting the human condition on display, analyzing what makes events in human life special/worth living for and comparing them to the idea of immortality through her lyrics.

I think Lana and Marina are both amazing artists, but I see no need to put them up against one another. They are both not your typical pop artist but both of them interpret the world differently and their songs are subjective towards their feelings and experiences, so I think it's quite unfair to compare them because they're both very unique.

When I listened to the whole Froot album, I don't think I liked one song except Blue. But after a second time I loved them so much. I think that's what makes Froot so unique. Once it grows on you, you can't stop listening to those songs.

my fave vid of the Froot era so far - just awesome.
My grandfather was one of the few people I felt loved me while I was growing up. He passed away when I was still a child. He left too soon. Although I spent little time with him, every moment was precious to me. My favorite part of this song is at 1:44. The lyrics reminded me of him, but when I saw the video and saw that it was a grandfather and his granddaughter, it moved me greatly that they placed it right at that part of the video.
To me, he is immortal; he will always be in my memory.
