Looking back in retrospect, I feel like this video marked the definitive end of the Electra Heart era which gave way to the Froot era.. a.k.a. my personal favorite. The rain came down and washed her clean of that person she used to think she needed to be. She had one too many heart aches and the veneer of apathy and self centeredness that acted as a shield, came crashing down. It's really beautiful and sort of metaphoric for her own personal evolution perhaps? Marina was and is a genius.
I wish people wouldn't compare Marina to Melanie Martinez. I like Crybaby, but I feel that the character is a little weak. The idea of a girl who is known as Crybaby is very easy to create and l believe it was only a matter of time till an artist did that. In Electra Heart, Marina created a character made out of four different archetypes, she could have picked one archetype or done separate albums for each but she didn't. She combined them all, which l think is very clever and rare to find. Marina's style was also extremely unique the way she put a modern twist on 60s clothing and the fact that she left her black hair showing almost like she wasn't afraid to hide it and was embracing it, is equally clever. To sum up l feel like Melanie got lucky to be able to grab the baby image before someone else did. Whereas Electra Heart is so different and so well thought don't think any artist would have been able to create the exact same character if they had the chance. And even if they did Marina is so smart and creative she would always find away to alter her idea into something new.

This song is based on the completely unrealistic idea that someone would prefer not to have a romantic relationship with Marina. And she is not their type and they will *only* touch her when it's dark. Seriously.
The sky is clear I remember that Marina in one of her videos with an interviewer asking her about music. I am unsure what question the interviewer asked her, still I remember that Marina told that she doesn’t connect with Happy songs. Since Marina is showing different personalities of herself for each of her albums. I think the only albums or songs where Marina shows her real identity, and actual personality is from her love album, and some songs where it shows her real personality, and identity without all the makeup, and wigs she use to wear.
Also, by the way, not many artists would want to show different sides of themselves. A side where they are always angry, emotional, communicative or not as social, loving or unloving, or acting like their usual selves. Marina is the type of person who likes to be different and that is who she is as an individual, person, and mortal. She wants to show different sides of herself which is the reason why Marina likes to be different, but not like sticking with something like Lana Del Rey has. Lana Del Rey doesn't show a different side of her self. Because of her aesthetic, tone, and style for her music is different from Marina. She wants her music to be aesthetically pleasing but the music you want to listen to in the past. If you listened to her "Love" or "Young and Beautiful songs. It looks like Lana Del Rey lives in a different time period that's the style, aesthetic or maybe kind of music which is old but new. Compared to Marinas it's similar but it is old pop music instead of Lana's type of music. I love Marina's music that is related to old pop.

Years pass by and this song keep being so important. Marina makes us reflect about priorities and the importance of really being attached to what matters.
there's a cool scene in the video when she walks behind the tree and dissapears. And the tree is actually the only dead tree around (maybe it means that electra is dying too). I think this is the moment when Marina goes straight to "Part 11: Electra Heart", she's wearing the same clothes and generally looks the same in both videos. Since we know that "Part 11" is electra's life flashback + she smudges the little heart of her cheek - Electra is finally dead and Marina is back :)
Just a theory, and it's not really backed up by much evidence- The song itself is obviously about her and a guy, but for the Electra Heart/Archetype story, I can only help but think this is about a sort of conversation or battle between Electra and Marina. The fact that it's right before Electra dies, and how the only thing that even makes her look like Electra is the heart (she lacks the normal Electra make up, etc) makes me think that it's Marina saying "you made too many wrong decisions in your life, you have to go" to Electra.
To me it sounds more like she has a guy who calls her a "friend" but she has feelings for him and he's taking advantage of that. Like she wants more but he thinks she isn't good enough for him.
I am happy that I am hurting because I am living this suffering, a lot of people don't know what is like to be heartbroken but what makes me the happiest is that there are songs relatable to my experience. I will make it through.
Love how the best is so piercing, almost deafening, such a beat drop and then the video is so calm and slow, such a rich contrast. I feel like the beat shows the turmoil going on in her brain because of this relationship but she has to look dignified and calm on the outside. Such a good song for revealing Electra Hearts personality later into the album, showing how all of this is really damaging her inside.

Since Marina is showing different personalities of herself for each of her albums. I think the only albums or songs where Marina shows her real identity, and actual personality is from her love album, and some songs where it shows her real personality, and identity without all the makeup, and wigs she use to wear.
Also, by the way, not many artists would want to show different sides of themselves. A side where they are always angry, emotional, communicative or not as social, loving or unloving, or acting like their usual selves.
Marina is the type of person who likes to be different and that is who she is as an individual, person, and mortal. She wants to show different sides of herself which is the reason why Marina likes to be different, but not like sticking with something like Lana Del Rey has.
Lana Del Rey doesn't show a different side of her self. Because of her aesthetic, tone, and style for her music is different from Marina. She wants her music to be aesthetically pleasing but the music you want to listen to in the past. If you listened to her "Love" or "Young and Beautiful songs. It looks like Lana Del Rey lives in a different time period that's the style, aesthetic or maybe kind of music which is old but new.
Compared to Marinas it's similar but it is old pop music instead of Lana's type of music.

Could be wrong, but it's a theory 😁
She said that this song was based on something that really happened to her, so she at least cared about the person she wrote this about. Maybe she was in love or maybe she just seriously liked the guy... who knows?

I think this is the moment when Marina goes straight to "Part 11: Electra Heart", she's wearing the same clothes and generally looks the same in both videos. Since we know that "Part 11" is electra's life flashback + she smudges the little heart of her cheek - Electra is finally dead and Marina is back :)

One of the most underrated songs and artists of recent memory. The acoustic version can make me cry.
Just a theory, and it's not really backed up by much evidence-
The song itself is obviously about her and a guy, but for the Electra Heart/Archetype story, I can only help but think this is about a sort of conversation or battle between Electra and Marina. The fact that it's right before Electra dies, and how the only thing that even makes her look like Electra is the heart (she lacks the normal Electra make up, etc) makes me think that it's Marina saying "you made too many wrong decisions in your life, you have to go" to Electra.

Love how the best is so piercing, almost deafening, such a beat drop and then the video is so calm and slow, such a rich contrast. I feel like the beat shows the turmoil going on in her brain because of this relationship but she has to look dignified and calm on the outside. Such a good song for revealing Electra Hearts personality later into the album, showing how all of this is really damaging her inside.
