I remember listening to these back in Chicago. So glad I came upone these This however, is the first one "Deadly Hour" I missed the point on. Someone please explain? Thank you!
@geofbrit59 I agree about EE: She's the most thoughtful, most nuanced and least formulaic of all CBSRMT'S writers and I have a separate playlist just for her. It also appeals to me that she often treats themes that are central to Carl Jung's work (this episode is concerned with the shadow, a key Jungian concept); Jung is my favorite writer and thinker on the human condition.
Especially disturbing episode for me....many yrs ago my family went on vacation and stopped at the Luray? caverns in W. VA I think. We took a guided tour and I'll never forget the guide describing total darkness and how the men who first discovered the caves had to dig tunnels to the large caves. They had to crawl on their stomachs with only lanterns for light while digging with small tools. The scariest part was how sometimes their lanterns broke or ran out of oil and they were in total darkness until help came. But many went completely insane in a matter of a few hours. The guide then had all lights turned out for less than 30 seconds, but it seemed MUCH longer, and told us to try and see our hand in front of our face. It was horrifying! I had the world's biggest panic attack! I can't even describe the loss of perspective...couldn't tell up from down! And I stayed at the hotel the following day while my family went to a different cave. It was a shame as the caves were unbelievably beautiful...but they should stop the "lights out" portion of the tour!
Violet Femme, Luray Caverns are in Luray, Virginia, near Harrisonburg. Don't believe everything the cavern guides tell you. I had a friend who worked at a different set of caverns. He said they made up stories to tell the tourists.
@lovegoodmusicism glad you found this channel! I was a huge fan as a kid as well, these bring back so many memories, especially the commercials. One of my favorite commercials was always from TrueValue/Pat Summerall. I will be uploading the entire series, all 1399 episodes, please subscribe so you don't miss any! thanks!
This CBS Mystery narrator is absolutely right ; We come from the darkness of the womb { we come from almost nothing } and we are born... But when we pass on I believe In Our Lord Jesus Christ as I do) and I believe that there is a heaven and that's for all my family is waiting for me, for when the time comes.. So I am not there laying in a dark box my soul my spirit it's not in that cold damp box as he says in during the story. So believe in our Lord Jesus Christ and he is there for all of us to forgive us and to save us and yes I have enjoyed this story ; just not he the CBS Mystery play narrator said about ------ beginning in the dark and ending in the dark I have believed since I was a child our Lord Jesus Christ is there ; I have for my whole lifetime, if you will believe in heaven and there is an afterlife as I do So you are not in the Darkness ,,, just your old body is good night to all ,,,,,,,,, and God bless

Would listen to these with my parents in the car driving home from evening basketball events back in the 80's. We loved it. Thanks :)
These CBSRMT dramas are wonderful - Thank you for posting them here on RUclips!
I love the hollow processed audio that the networks used to have back then. It sounds live!

Elspeth Eric is my fave CBSRMT writer. She is very interested in psychoanalysis and most of her stories deal with that. This was a good one.
geofbrit59, I agree. She had quite a talent. I wish these writers were still alive, and I wish we could gather them all together to pick their brains.

+qwyzl I feel exactly the same. I think we invent a more terrifying atmosphere in our own minds than could ever be duplicated in a movie!
