You heard of coop games where you might secretly be against each other? This is a competitive game where you might secretly be working together.
The problem in this game is... You don't secretly work together. It's pretty obvious pretty fast who wants who to win. So not so secret

Yeah, the strategy seems to be more in focusing on your second and third place winners.
What would be some of those co-op games?
You know when their criticism mostly boils down to "Maybe some of the elements on the board could have been slightly bolder because it can be a bit difficult to see sometimes" and "it already comes in a fairly small box, but I feel like it plausibly could have been smaller" then it's a damn good game.
And, you know, possible expansions. Who complains about a box that might later hold all the extra bits, instead of having two boxes for one game?
The box size is to fit the deluxe components, although it could be a little smaller.
I know the developer and let him know about this review. He was pretty surprised and happy to see it.

Thank you for the subtle shade thrown at GOT for a lack of a satisfying conclusion. I think your ending really tied up the loose ends and storylines cohesively and I for one am fully satisfied!

This is a game I would like to see you guys play this game. Maybe have it edited with cut aways to what you guys are thinking in other room. If not it would still be interesting to watch this game with people who know how to play it.
They did that for a game of Twilight Imperium, it was pretty good

I literally paused the review and bought the game. This is exactly my type of game. Also the Matt and Tom reviews are always bangers.

@@gideonwilliams7755 I got it from Miniatures Market. They had like 20 copies this morning. But I watched the video like 10 minutes after it was published and guessed that it would be out of stock if I waited at all. Apparently a lot of Shut Up and Sit Down viewers had the same idea as me. This game didn't do a ton on Kickstarter so I don't think a lot of retailers bought a lot of copies. They weren't expecting the SU&SD bump.
There are some copies of the deluxe edition on amazon if you are willing to drop $100.
@@hastyscorpion yeah, I checked Miniature Market first, it's my go-to store. I just passed this game up while traveling because it didn't have any big reviews. I think that was a mistake haha. Thanks for your reply!
@@gideonwilliams7755 You should be able to find the Standard Edition in stores around the world while supplies last. We also have it available on Amazon including the Deluxe Edition and the Upgrade Pack that fills out the box of the Standard Edition with all the extra miniatures from the Deluxe Edition and the two mini expansions from that version.

I think this i the single best review I've seen from SU&SD. Not the funniest. Not the most exciting game. But just excellently done from start to finish.
Maybe the real war of whispers is the friends we made along the way.

I feel like mid-review turnarounds are more prevalent in AAA or famous games. On games a little less known, if they have issues, SUSD would probably only do a podcast review, not a full-blown one.

Just played this again tonight and it really is exquisite. I insta-backed this on KS. Scratches that Dune itch without all the baggage and time. Though, I'm happy to play Dune anytime, anywhere.

My guess for the bigger box and the unused spaces in it is that they are planning for expansions that maybe will be able to fit in the original box so that they can all be stored in one place - or it could just be poor space management and packing.. but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt ; -)
Yes, the box is sized to fit the upgraded components and expansions from the Deluxe Edition and potential future expansions.

Hilarious, AND thoroughly convincing review.
So I bought this game about 8 months ago and last night was the 1st time that we sat down and played. We were fumbling around with the rules for a bit, but it really is a cool game. Yes, it is pretty obvious who players are routing for for the max points but as stated before, the 2nd-3rd-etc is not so clear. I feel the delux addition is a little flawed. We do not get the colored wooden block (which are awesome!) We get these flimys plastic banners things, that looks like a flag planted in poop. They break very easiliy. Over all, a wonderful game.
I literally just saw this game 3 days ago in a store while travelling but didn't see any major reviews on it. If only I had known it was this great! It's very hard to find online

The hand raven is very interesting considering I'm pretty sure I remember this group having a raven prop already at one point. It came up in a game of Mysterium, I think.

It somewhat reminds me of Dune with certain details: round map, dynamic turn order, better with more players, super powerful cards...

I've been trying to find this since this review went up, but there's just no standard versions anywhere even close to me. It seems to be not for sale in the UK after this video. They restocked it and it's a solid £85 including delivery. Please. I just need the thing. 😭
I had a rude awakening when I had a great few games at a friend’s house then got it for myself. Even though the box looks the same size, there’s a MASSIVE difference in the quality of components. The little minis and castles may not be necessary and there’s a little to be said for how the total abstraction of the armies suits the narrative, but when you’d been playing with the elaborate and fancy pieces it does feel like a hard downgrade.
That does sound like fun. Now I need friends.

I've been away for awhile, and I can tell how much you guys have increased your budget. Not only have you brought in Obi-Wan Kenobi to help with the reviews, but someone else had to point out to me that the raven wasn't real!
I played my first game with 3 other buddies last weekend. It was fun and easy to learn. The wording on some of the cards weren't clear though and the designer provides much needed details on the BGG forum. I wish they had revised that wording on their 2nd print run.

After this review and a few others I saw I was looking at picking this up. The Deluxe version solves the problem of cities being covered up by giving plastic tokens... and you can buy an upgrade to the deluxe version separately. I thought that was nice, so I can pick up the normal version and if we get hooked on it I can spend the $40 to get the nice plastic bits and bobs.

How does this game justify a £54 RRP? Looks more like 30-35 quid max. Not that it matters as apparently people pay it and it's sold out anyway.
I just checked the deluxe edition on their Kickstarter page. It looks like there are plastic city pieces, but they didn't get enough backers to unlock their tower or farm pieces, so I guess the deluxe edition is forever incomplete? It also has exclusive cards. Ugh, what a scam.
I'm fully sold on this. Bit pricey for me, but I will definitely save up to get this this year.

I'll have to ponder whether _Battle for Rokugan_ is sufficient for my needs here - but the _Imperial_-style "power behind the throne" gameplay does seem intriguing. (Because, "intrigue"? Eh? Eh?)
Owning both I can say that they are quite different games. While BfR has "bluffing " when placing tokens and secret objectives, you still control a single army. aWoW is more about maneuvering and watching to see who might be progressing your agenda for you and then allocating resources to capitalize on your second place empire. The cards can be swingy but the quick gameplay makes such outcomes memorable and actually quite palatable.
Played only once, and us new players didn’t realise the power of the cards. The owner in the last turned had the final turn and smashed out five cards at once - we didn’t stand a chance!
Finally! A board game that reflects the actual geometry of an earth-like world...flat!
