As for the CARE project -- "No one should ever die and not be missed" - Shannon Britton: i'm not sure -- if i die i don't care whether i'm missed or not -- if i'm in a profession that shames my family why would i want to bother them about my death publicly. it would really be nice if so much trouble was taken to help people out of professions that are in such high risk. i'm just saying. regarding do-gooding.

I think this a wonderful thing these people are doing, but it breaks my heart that there's even a reason for it. I wish they would do something like this in The States.
It looks a lot more relaxed over there. They have turned pubs here into posh clubs and put up the price of alcohol and now not many people go out anymore.
I come from solid middle class family of 7 kids..our baby sister was what we now know as trafficked at 13. Our parents had divorced and as the last kid she saw us leave one by one and became somewhat neglected as our parents fought and were weary of raising kids. She fell into drugs and street life. She never was able to adapt to normal living, even after many attempts. She is 42 and just went from jail to rehab and we always hope. My biggest fear is always that she will die and be found unidentified because who would think she has a large family tha5. While we had to move on and accept her life, we do love her. I wish that had this here in the us.
This is the old Chicago joes pizza, I use to work the bingo hall across the street when I was young ( Villa Bingo ) I grew up in this area. it's the streets of broken dreams
Nothing Is as bad as Here in Vancouver. East Hastings, One of the worst places in North America I'd say personally. People from the biggest cities in America ( police chiefs included ) have said they have nothing like we have here in Vancouver in their huge American Cities. This Doc looks tame compared to the Stuff I've seen and walked through here over the last 20 years.
You can’t really compare 20 years of what you have seen and walked though to a hour documentary though. Hastings is rough but 118 street is also rough. No need to compare. It’s a difficult life period no matter what street your on.
Heartbreaking!! I disagree with the way the police are handling this. Women who engage in prostitution should be arrested for their own protection. Instead of sending them to jail put them in a safe house and help them get clean.

Yaknow when you look at someone or watch them talk and instantly know they were/are a drug addict? It’s meth that makes them like that and it never ever goes away. It rots the brain. My friend was hooked on it for a few years and sometimes when she’s talking you can still see the meth person. It makes you talk so fast and weird. I always knew when she was on it when calling me. But I’ve been around drugs my whole life so I just know when someone’s using. Some people just can’t see it for some reason. Praying for anyone experiencing drug addiction and praying you never try drugs.
Please do not be so judgmental. These beautiful women are daughters, sisters and mothers. They are no different than you or i and work hard to make an honest living to feed their children. Your stance is disgusting. Shame on you
Something suspicious about this because I contacted police where a family member is a user, and they refused to take my name to notify if they find him passed. So this seems wiered or possibly untrue.
Many of these people are victims of their family. And that's assuming the police just take your word for it. It would make sense for the only notification contacts to be those the people approve themselves.
Ah, I figured it was Edmonton and then 2:24 Delta Edmonton Hotel sign in the background. In the ICE district downtown there's a huge arena that the city paid over $200 million to build, and it's right next to a homeless shelter/community services. The people struggling the most here are treated as an afterthought, not a priority, not a concern, so the title "Who Cares?" is an accurate title. We had 91 amputations due to frostbite in 2021 and most of the people affected were homeless. It is a hard situation to have hope in when you feel like you don't matter to other people.
The fact that he just drove away at the very start and left her like that after claiming to "care" so much is disgusting .That poor excuse of a so called "mother" complaining about the blood on her floor and all the "drama" of her daughter cutting herself was absolutely sickening .
There's nothing you can do for these people. They have to want it. As far as the daughter goes, she's probably done this all her life. I'm sure the mother has tried to get her help but it's not that easy. Mental health care is almost nonexistent everywhere.
@@ashotofmercury Mental health issues are hereditary. what's the saying? "The hardest thing about having a mental illness is that people expect you to behave as if you don't." Just because she's older and a mother doesn't mean she isn't still battling her own demons. Mental healthcare is the problem here, and these things are cyclical. By now I bet this girl has her own children and is an even worse parent.
Sorry but a guy jumping out his van asking street workers to get in and give personal info comes off very sketchy. Too me at least. I get he's trying to do good but it would freak me out for sure.
Yeeeah same. If I was working the streets and some guy came up to me asking me something like that I’d probably think he was trying to kidnap me. “Come back to my van… we can DO IT in here.”
I also feel like many of the people who have commented here that the Police officer should not be asking the girls to get inside his Van regardless of a female being present there too. If anything he should be warning them off to stay well clear from any van/car full-stop. Idiotic.!
I think it was more so at the whole situation. Imagine being woken up to deal with your adult child who was methed up cutting herself after dealing with it for years?
It is good to know some people care. There are some really awful people in the world but I would like to think and remind myself these decent people make life worthwhile. We can’t judge everyone by some people’s bad behaviour. These decent people are role models.
I stumbled across this video. Wow it’s so scary for these woman to be out there selling their precious bodies. And in return most of them are murdered . Please god watch over them. I would love to know the outcome of the ladies that were interviewed in this video to see where have their paths have taken them
What's really sickening is that they should even have to do this. Someone should be talking to, teaching and showing young boys and men how to behave in society. Women don't grow up and go out to prey on men. Men don't go out and prey on men, they choose women, from nothing to ninety. Why, how did this come to be the way it is ?
I really don't think there are very many men who prey on women. But even if you have a few, they can kill a lot of people. Prostitutes especially are easy prey, because they will obviously go with anyone. During the 80s and 90s Edmonton had a serial killer. It was never official but everyone knew it. Many, many MMGW, I believe, went missing because of him. My point is I don't think the vast, vast majority of men would ever hurt these girls, and you can't "teach" a psychopath.
It’s because some men/boys have devils in them and from the beginning. I’m not necessesarily referring to evil spirits but all people are born with certain characteristics. The environment they grow up in also is a big influence. I know the thinking/ mentality of this because I was kind of like that when younger. I outgrew it because as an adult I believed in my value in the world. It’s an aggressive feeling and thinking.
This is awesome. There are still good people in this world. This man is one of them. No one should ever die and not be missed. And families should never go without knowing what has happened to a loved one. 🖤✌️

This program should be initiated in as many places as possible! Usually when a serial killer jumps off, they're the ones who are often picked to prey on. Having they're DNA on file would save precious time in tracking down killers already in the system. Hopefully all the ladies in this segment find some measure of peace in this sick world!!!
At the very least, the women will be identified and their families can be notified.
I would enjoy a reality series. These women are gorgeous and have super model level looks. Canadian women are the most beautiful in the world
Wow! I lived in Edmonton in the late 80's .... on the streets of Jasper and 105th. I'm still alive but i had to leave the country to get away from the pimps and kidnappings. I have fantastic guardian angels as I'm a grandmother of 2. Please, please ladies, get out while you can. There is a beautiful life for you in your future. I'm living proof. God bless you.
How far is Edmonton from the US by car?
@@tarotbyamber7233five hours. Edmonton is gods country. Any American would be happy to see a selection of beautiful women Edmonton has to offer. Hope to see you soon. You won’t be disappointed
Shelly’s story of “her corner” with her name on it is quite funny.
May God bless these women and ease their suffering. Thank you to all who help.
How can you laugh at her misery? You have a disgusting attitude towards these poor women. Karma will strike you one day
That made me laugh too. She's very quick and funny with a good heart - she could be so much more. 😢
I live on the east coast i tried helping a girl I went to school with. Unfortunately she still doing these things. God bless all these girls.
I'm from newbrunswick canada and we just had -42 freezing weather the last couple days.... were bit chilly lol
@charlesraymond9719stop being a creep. 😕🤦🏻♀️
"As soon as you touch the door handle, you think this could be your last one" I mean what can I say after those words.
Not everyone wants help. I did a research project on being
homeless in Canada. Some prefer an abandon builing, a shed
or an overpass. We all have a routine in life, their's is different.
Exactly..
Its far more liberating urinating and defecting outdoors or washing your hair in a fountain
Heartbreaking. Bless these struggling, endangered women. 💔
They are earning a living doing something most women couldn’t do. They are strong women. God bless these women
They are businesswoman. Serving a viable market.
Can you cover Dustin (Dusty) Turner's case? He was incarcerated in 1995 for the crimes committed by another man. Let's help this man to get his freedom back!
God bless that street worker who stood up to the disgusting cop. He has a lot of nerve for being so creepy on camera
What happened with Shelly? I feel a bond to her and I have never even met her. Maybe a past life. I hope she's ok. I would love to be in touch with her. I think this documentary is fairly old but not sure. I googled the pub name but it is closed permanently. Love all the way from San Francisco California. ❤️
9:30 him describing Project Care and what it is, and all the things he gets from each woman when they register with the program is scary AF. Imagine being one of those woman and this man is telling you they collect your dental, hair and other info so they can identify you if you ever come up dead.....🥺That would be enough for me to actually think about what it is that I'm doing and weigh out whether or not it is the right thing for me.... These women really do put themselves in danger every single time they walk those streets. And they aren't all out there because they want to be now..... Sending hope and faith to every woman on the streets tonight. ✌💜🙃🙏
Thank-you for humanizing our street workers. Hopefully it will show that they have lives too and family that loves them and they aren't just objects♥️
Well said. These women are saints for providing services
I'm from Edmonton and I wouldn't be caught dead on our streets after 10pm these days. The downtown is so sad. The only time when the downtown looks good is when the oilers are in town and everyone wants to party if they win.
Same here,
Seems pretty safe to me. Women are gorgeous and approachable. Very tourist friendly
That's the attitude that invites cities to devolve further into chaos.
It might have been filmed a few years ago but we still have the same problems !
Yeah, I’d argue it’s even worse now. Downtown has really deteriorated in the last few years sadly.
@@smsmsm33434 I fully agree. I’m from Toronto area but visited quite a few other cities and smaller towns. It’s worse everywhere…homelessness, drug use, all of it.
Amazingly well done documentary. Should win awards. There's no condescension! No vapid sanctimonious voice-over. NOT British.
Canadians make the best films. No question. Edmonton is a great backdrop for awesome films
I wish social care in USA towards this segment of society was on the same level.
There are programs in every city that try to help hookers. Google your local area.

He let the woman beat him up. He seems like a really nice guy indeed.
When she said she leaves her body that is very common with children being traumatized wile being abused. I believe whole heartedly that your soul actually splits leaves. Hence her prayers. When you know you can leave the body you know there is an afterlife.
You mentioned knowing a certain percentage of murder victims, I just noticed how easy it was for someone to say “I’m with Joe”, maybe that’s how they are gaining access.
I thought that too - would it not make more sense for a woman to approach the ladies first?..... 😮🤔
❤ that man is amazing ❤ yes I do wonder were they are today ? Did this documentary change anything?
Any more resources to help this women?

I really hope they are all OK and doing better
I agree.. I remember watching this year's ago.. It's nice to watch again but very curious and hoping everyone still is okay and doing better
Could you explain the part where the beautiful woman talked about going to Thailand to do human trafficking? She seemed really passionate about it. Was she fixing to open a massage parlor or gogo bar? I wasn’t sure what she was talking about. Good business opportunity but far from beautiful Edmonton
@trickolas78 she was saying she wanted you go there to HELP people who were being trafficked. To save the children. Not to be a part of it.

There’s very little humanity left in this world…it’s so sad 😢

I know there’s bad areas everywhere, but had no clue it was like this there in Canada. Everyone is so nice that I talk to from there. Very sad.
Let me tell you this. There is suffering over the whole world. I live in Canada and there’s homelessness and drug addiction in the big cities and the small. As long as drugs and poverty exist you will find this everywhere. What we don’t have though is tent cities from what I’m aware. I’ve seen whole little cities of homeless in America. Praying for everyone

@Donnell Okafor nope, no cell phones that small in 99, they were the size of a brick and most people could not afford one.
Sad when you don’t recognize the city in which you were born, raised, and had children. Kare does some fantastic work, though.

It started filming in 2011 and was released in 2012.

Amazing show!
The music at the end, awesome

We need many more task forces like Project KARE. So many families who never know what has happened to their loved ones. This is an important step.
I think this a wonderful thing these people are doing, but it breaks my heart that there's even a reason for it. I wish they would do something like this in The States.

It looks a lot more relaxed over there. They have turned pubs here into posh clubs and put up the price of alcohol and now not many people go out anymore.
That’s terrible. Now people can’t afford to get drunk.
I understand and relate completely ❤

Nothing Is as bad as Here in Vancouver. East Hastings, One of the worst places in North America I'd say personally. People from the biggest cities in America ( police chiefs included ) have said they have nothing like we have here in Vancouver in their huge American Cities. This Doc looks tame compared to the Stuff I've seen and walked through here over the last 20 years.
You can’t really compare 20 years of what you have seen and walked though to a hour documentary though. Hastings is rough but 118 street is also rough. No need to compare. It’s a difficult life period no matter what street your on.
Vancouver is a great city to live in, you want to see a hellhole go to Brooklyn N Y or Philly
DTES is the best I'd say it's much friendlier and nice than say the Tenderloin in SF or Kensington in Philly.
The women of Edmonton are 100x’s hotter than the Vancouver ones. Get on a plane for Edmonton asap!

Yeah, that would probably help out a lot but these women don’t have much money to get away.
Heartbreaking!! I disagree with the way the police are handling this. Women who engage in prostitution should be arrested for their own protection. Instead of sending them to jail put them in a safe house and help them get clean.
How will they support their children when they are in jail? Why such silly ideas

we need more time and effort on prevention , identifying them after is failing them , look at the Pickton case as an example , he got exposed by a girl who survived and was let free to continue
It would be amazing to be able to prevent these crimes. Until there’s a way to do that, being able to identify victims and notify their families is a noble endeavour.
DNA samples in case they turn up dead??
Yeaaaah?
So they can atleast be identified when they turn up dead
It is the only way for their families to even know what happened to them if the worst case happens.

Totally not applicable. However this has never happened to me before.
Only for women
People are disgusting aren’t they? Im glad you have a big heart to care
@@cyrene7784the mother admitted to being off her face on cocaine for much of her childhood too, then seemed to pretend to feel sad about it. 😮😯

I would love to know the outcome of the ladies that were interviewed in this video to see where have their paths have taken them
In return they get paid for their services. These women are a wonderful resource to the lonely men of Edmonton. God bless them
What's really sickening is that they should even have to do this.
Yes women have and will prey on men
@@spannaspinna Not in the way she's talking about. I've never heard of it.
