- The mayor of Rancho Palos Verdes in Southern California is looking for help from Tesla CEO Elon Musk amid five ongoing, destructive landslides that have left residents displaced and without electricity.
City officials are hoping for a solution that would use solar batteries to help residents get off the main power grid and convert to an “off-grid” sustainable solution.
KTLA's Rachel Menitoff reports on August 20, 2024.

These people created this mess and want taxpayers to pay for a solution that is not a 100% solution. These officials are a joke.
They created a landslide? Or are you referring to the 60 year-old homes built on a 40 year-old landslide?
That is actually not true. I grew up there and the slides were occuring in the 60's. That are has old roads that have been rrpaved over and over.
Some of the most expensive real estate in California, now want tax payers to foot their bill. If you don’t want to get burnt don’t camp near the fire.

A lot of those folks are elderly and have lived there for 40-50+ years. Far from being millionaires, they're in danger of both their home and land being a total loss at a time when it's impossible to start over. Anyone who still has a mortgage or took out a 2nd mortgage is still required to pay the balance.
I'm sure they've had to know the risk you take when you live somewhere like this. I honestly don't feel bad for them.
@@danm9326 "Somewhere like this?" Most of those homes have been there for over 50 years without problems. There was no perceived damage or they couldn't have gotten a mortgage. "Somewhere like this" could be anywhere.
@@Jeanne90275 The houses should be condemned and the residents moved. it costs $500k per year to maintain the roads and the whole street is going to end up in the ocean anyway. Better to declare a disaster and get the residents out of there before someone gets hurt.
Back in the 60s, Inglewood and downtown was the hot new place everyone wanted to be at, close to the action. Rancho Palos Verdes was the boring country area of LA that no one wanted. Then the population exploded, and it’s value skyrocketed as everyone wanted to get away from the congestion.

In the name of all ride share and delivery drivers- Elon, DO NOT HELP THEM! I did for years there Amazon fresh and Whole Foods deliveries on my Prius and never got tips or bottle of water. Flex drivers hate to deliver in that area.

So now there are two landslides stacked on top of each other? Usually when there is evidence of an active landslide, the residents are evacuated for their safety. I’m sure if there was a way to save it, the state would be on it. But I think they know it just a matter of time till something triggers the slide. Will the slide cause a tsunami for Catalina island? Will it trigger aftershocks in the South Bay? What about that?

Elon and his team will have solutions. I worked with Tesla and know about how he cares about humanity. It’s the people who challenges and vilifies him is why he will bite back.
