Orthobiologics are commonly used in orthopaedic medicine to enhance the body's natural healing processes and accelerate tissue repair.
Here are some key components of orthobiologics:
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP): PRP is derived from the patient's own blood. It involves isolating and concentrating the platelets, which contain growth factors that can stimulate tissue repair and regeneration. PRP is often used in the treatment of conditions such as tendon injuries, ligament sprains, and osteoarthritis.
Stem Cells: Stem cells have the unique ability to differentiate into various cell types. They can be sourced from the patient's own bone marrow, adipose tissue (fat), or other tissues. Stem cell therapy is being explored as a potential treatment for conditions like cartilage defects, tendon injuries, and degenerative joint diseases.
