Yes please do a before and after around your systems and habits. That would be really helpful.

I'd love to hear your habits. You have practical common sense ideas and they are things we can all do.

Sound advice. What I've found as helpful to start was to only purchase what I truly needed. Then I'd asked family members & friends to not buy me anything for birthdays & holidays as I don't need anything. If that person insisted, I'd convey that I much prefer a gift of an experience, spending time with them, or have them bake/cook me something rather than buying something I didn't want nor needed. I've also found that as I built my decluttering muscles throughout the years, what I once was reluctant to part with I was subsequently able to down the road. I took my decluttering process like a layer of an onion.

Мы много лет покупали живую елку. Но в прошлом году купили искусственную. Это экологичнее и мы можем поставить ее когда захотим: хоть осенью, не надо ждать, когда живые появятся в продаже.

My issue is anxiety, so when a space is overwelming, I freeze and I am unable to do it. With kids, 3 dogs, a husband, house gets super cluttered and messy fast. So I do vacuum, mop daily, cook, basic things, but at the end of the day, I lose motivation to do anything else. I procrastinate alot. The day before Xmas, I did not have much done, my bedroom had been cluttered for many months making me depressed. Once I finished wrapping the gifts and what not, something came over me. I just did the best I could, was so fed up, took me 5 hours (till 2am), but managed to put lots of stuff away, throw out trash, sort some clothes and put some in a donation bag. I was so proud of myself, so nice to sit on my bed, relax and not looking at clutter. Mind you I am not done as I have more to do, empty out overloaded closet, drawers etc. But at least it looks good and it's clean.

That's so amazing that you were able to accomplish so much! It doesn't always have to be 5 hour sessions- that would be completely overwhelming for most of us! If you could just start doing 10 min per day on 1 area, you'd be amazed at how quickly it will get done. Just try it for 1 week, 10min/ day and see for yourself. Then you could increase to 20min a few times a week, and so on...good luck! You can do this!! When it's done your life will be so much easier 😊❤️

@@homesteadingdreams8046 thank you so much for your encouragement, I will try that. Or else I guess by doing exausting and long sessions, it probably triiggers my anxiety for the next time and go into freeze mode again.

I would for sure be interested in your habits that you have formed to maintain the house. Some of the things that I have implemented doesn’t seem to be working out as far as the whole family finding it easy to maintain. I am always up for different ideas that may click for my family too.
When I started my big declutter I think I made two mistakes. I would start a big declutter while I had a few extra days off of work so I had to finish it before I went back. While I do feel I did maintain a good frame while I was doing the project I feel putting the timeframe deadline on myself to get the whole thing done during that time frame burned me out faster. Also I did declutter first and then organize, I did it all at once. Like I would declutter the room and then right away went out and bought things and organized that room. I think that made me lose some momentum for just the declutter part. I feel I should have broken each room into sections and decluttered each section and each room first and then went back and did some organizing in the same way. Watching your videos reminded me to do just that for my second round and it made it so much more manageable. I just donated a bunch of organizing bins this past week. Thankfully most of them were Dollar Tree ones so I didn’t waste a bunch of money. I did feel good though to know that I have gotten rid of so many unnecessary items that I no longer needed them.

So true, it's easier and more fun to organize ( I think) but it definitely makes us lose momentum. It's also really nice to take the time to really figure out the best system for that particular area. People who haven't done huge declutters don't realize how exhausting it can be, especially if you're doing hours at a time!

I originally thought I will use veganism and zero waste to mold around. So in the kitchen a lot of things changed but not much left the house. With zero waste I acquired more things but hadn't worn many other things out. Then I left my job but brought home several boxes. My child grew into a teen but their toys and books just increased. I had never learned to declutter.
A friend had bedbugs and that meant whole categories were eliminated/removed. That was their entry into a more manageable less overwhelming home. We moved from a space with lots of storage to one with less organized storage. IKEA bought back our furniture due to their recall. Suddenly we had less storage and even though money was a bit tighter we continued to bring things in, most didnt have homes until I bought bins. Then depression hit. As part of that recovery I began working on my "why" and my vision going forward. Helping someone clean up during a move reminded me of how much easier and fun it is to clean a less cluttered space. So I am working on it. I am also looking at my aesthetics because I seem inclined towards early warehouse/storeroom. Eventually Id like to get a couch in the living room and use that space for socializing/relaxing. Several things have to leave before that can happen. It helps to hear about how you kept your head down and just did the work. I may be moving to a smaller space in 6 months so I hope to adopt the same attitudes and get this current space liveable so moving will be less arduous.

Sounds like you've had a lot going on, I'm sorry to hear that. When you're able to get rid of more items, everything gets easier, cleaning, organizing, and maintenance. Good luck, YOU CAN DO THIS!
