Thanks for the tip! My justice gundam's hip joint just broke, it was my favorite one.. fortunatedly the peg is hollow, and I wont even need to drill it. Plus I am a dentist, so I have access to resin and some small instruments to aid me. Will come back to update the status of this fix up!
It worked!! I used a thick paper clip + superglue + baking soda. I also reinforced the other peg and used some baby oil to lubricate the tight joints and prevent further issues. Thanks again for the video!
Mine is starting to show a stress mark in the same area too. Personally I was really disappointed by that kit, it has to be on an action base or it slowly does the splits over time
I had the same happen to my starter kit RX78 gundam but the ball joint is kind of stuck in the actual leg joint and i was wondering if there are any ways you can get it out?
Disassemble as simple as possible, then you’ll likely have to slice the joint housing/ “female” peg in order to pull out the ball joint/“male” peg. Yes you will damage the joint housing, but it’s pretty easy to put Tamiya putty in the empty gap, or to use a concoction of melted down plastic bits in Tamiya Extra Thin (this works the best for makeshift filler glue) as a makeshift putty. Studio G did some of that in his MG Barbatos and Akira bike custom where he took a bunch of the little forbidden sprinkles and put them in a jar with a good amount of plastic cement, and once the sprue has completely dissolved in the glue he used it like a putty or epoxy. Then once the putty/glue has dried and hardened enough and you have separated the “female” housing from the “male” ball joint, you can do what this guy is doing and pin the broken ball joint peg together, then when that’s done you can connect them together in the same fashion as when you first built. Hope this helps!
For the sake of explanation and visualization, the “male” peg is the long rectangular one, and the “female” peg/joint is the open cavity you put the peg into. Yes it’s a dumb inappropriate comparison but it helps for explanatory purposes.
Hey I just came back from building my laggan and the hip joint broke inside of the part. Can you give any advise on how to fix this problem? I saw this video many times I’m just not sure if it will work in my situation. Also this is gonna be my first repair so pls help out
@@newtypeadvantage6461hey there I have a similar problem as the main comment but I already filled the hollow part with superglue before I connected the joints together and it broke I tried to pull it out with pliers which just made the joint inside unsalvageable and more harder to take out this will be my first kit repair as well so please help me out
If you want to pin joints that haven't snapped, do you just drill from the far side of the ball without needing to cut it off? or should I still cut off the ball joint and pin from the inside?
@@newtypeadvantage6461 I was working on the Gurren Lagann when I asked that, sadly trying to drill through the material of those hollow joints for the hips only destroyed them, I ended up removing the pegs, drilling a hole and glueing in place a brass rod and giving that a thin layer of modelling putty to create new stronger joints. It worked okay, but the joint isn't strong enough to hold up the model, so I have to keep it on a stand

If you don't have a pin vise you can get a set a drill bits with a hex connection that will fit in a screwdriver you probably already have
Very easy to understand too, great video
