@@MrBons1Million Have you subbed at schools where they spit at you, cuss you, throw stuff at you, fight, or talk about anal sex during the class, make homemade bombs, put hand sanitizer in your coffee mug?? And the administration would kiss their butts and sign up with them, not teachers, because they are afraid to be sued?? That's their time to get back at adults and teachers when the sub comes in. This is an insult to all the substitute teachers who have to go into schools and classes that no one wants to teach. Usually this is because there is a system of chaos in the school. Often substitute teachers receive little support from admin. It can feel like riot control, all the while being at the mercy of another teacher's game plan which was concocted in 5 min.
I didn't mean for it to be an insult. I know first hand that elementary and middle school subs can be very difficult cus subs don't get support from admin. It can be like that too for high school subs, but it's often less (not never). And I don't go back to classes like those. My purpose for this video is to get more people to be subs so they don't get short-staffed and ask subs to do more than they are expected to. I usually choose the good school and classes to minimize riot control.
@@MrBons1Million Hi! I am on my way to start Subbing next week. I am very nervous. Are there tricks to choosing easier classrooms? I am set up to start Subbing in two different public school districts in Phoenix. I know enough not to choose middle school jobs, that would be crazy. 😂 Thanks for your help!
Yay!! Congrats! You'll be great. My biggest tip would be to not take things too personal with the kids. You are only there for a few hours, don't get confrontational with them. And then explain to them that you would get in trouble if they do this or that. If you say that this is your first time at the school, they are usually very welcome. And have fun. If you have a good time, they will too. Students love having subs in the first place. Just don't ruin their expectations and it'll be good. Good luck! @SongsbyCharleneApril
Subbing is easy. I do it full time. There is always work available. My rules are simple. Be respectful and get your work done. As long as they get all the work done on the sub plans, the rest of the day/period they can have free. I can also work whenever I want. No bringing work home. No meetings. No lesson planning. Show up. Follow the plans. go home.
Yes, exactly. I don't know why some people make it hard on themselves and have to rule the class with an iron fist. It becomes such an easy job if you don't care about a few things.
I did it for 3 years. It was fine on some days. Other days were a bit challenging. Depended on the group of kids. Some were awesome and some….well I never went back again.
@john_coleman I stick to elementary b/c it’s my only area where I have valid experience. I don’t know anything about dealing with middle and high schoolers. After time goes by, you learn what classes are mellow that you love going to, which classes are average and don’t mind taking on, and which classes are awful and naughty that you run away from like the plague
My experience in HS & Middle school were absolutely not just sitting at the desk. The kids are not even reasonable quiet which is all I ask. I can’t have the noise level so high it can be heard in the hallway. Also, they don’t want to stay in their seats. I’ve had boys who insisted on “sparring” during class & refused to sit down. Many kids are mean bullies who are quite intimidating. Some are bigger than me which is extremely intimidating. Aside from the terrible pay (depending on where you live) the only benefit is the schedule. It helps that I am already married.
Aww sorry for your rough experience. I do admit I am fortunate enough to have the option of picking good schools and avoiding bad ones. At least it works with your schedule 😁
After elementary, teachers always give them independent work to do. After their done I say my favorite line to middle schoolers “find something else to do! Get your homework done, read a book, heck, you can even talk as long a you aren’t causing trouble.”
I've learned today that lifeguard not a lazy job, and that was a high bar since for 1/3 of the day I sit in the guard office looking out the window Great video by the way!
That's still not a bad job. At least you get exercise. I would never do it cus like most Asians I can't swim lol. Thanks for sharing your semi lazy job!
Subbing was awesome while I was in college b/c I could get all my homework/assignments done during the school day and relax when I got off. I would absolutely hate to do it now, I would be bored out of my mind 😖
@dianadelcid931 I'm an accountant now which can be boring but atleast I get to zone out and listen to podcasts/RUclips. Can't really do that when subbing haha
Lol, you can't listen to or watch RUclips as a sub, but you can read pretty much anything. But there is no growth as a sub. At least as an accountant you can go up the ladder.
Where do you work where class doesn't start until 8:15 and you only have three classes a day!? Lol When I teach high school I have to get there by like 7:25am and I have six classes each day!
Yeah, they have block schedules so it's about 3-4 classes a day with longer periods. And they start later. Maybe you should consider coming to California lol
I wanted to be a math teacher but school officials, particularly the DOE, discouraged me from chasing my dream. I also recall CUNY guidance counselors discouraging me from pursuing my academic objectives. This was all done in an effort to keep certain minorities from reaching success and job security. So, I did others things with my life. Now at 59 years old with three college degrees, I find myself working as a security guard making peanuts for a living in a dead-end job. How about that for a story? Note: I also worked as a sub teacher in NYC for 8 years (2000-2008).
Aww, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not surprised to hear that there was discrimination against minorities. The sad part is that they make the best teachers. I hope things turn up for you. Maybe you can move to California and get a better pay for subbing.
After teaching for 20 years in a high school, and 5 of those in continuation high school. I absolutely love being a substitute teacher now. No grading, no subbing, no union meetings to hear how Trump supporters hate gays, no having to see the same rude student, no parent emails. Yes of course I get paid a 1/3 of my former pay, no benefits, but my husband is able to cover all that. So it really works for me at this stage of my life, at 45, I can see myself subbing for the next 20 years. Yes subbing high school gets boring, but I can meal plan and read my book. And for variety I sub elementary and they keep real busy and the little ones give me hugs and l love hugs! ❤
In this day and age with technology most teachers for 3 grade on up have their assignments on line. Basically I just tell them their assignments for the day. Also they team teach so those grades are similar to middle school.I mainly do 3rd-5th. They do not pay enough here. I’m a retired educator and make $115 per day the very reason I try not to sub below 3rd grade.
@MrBons1Million I mostly did elementary b/c that’s my area of experience. I majored in elementary teaching. I hate middle school but I’ve been in a few classes to sub b/c nothing else was available. I made it easy on myself. Take attendance, tell them what their independent assignments are, let them do whatever they want AS LONG as they don’t cause trouble.
What state are you working in? I work in IL at a school with one of the best sub rates in the area. I make $160 for long term sub positions since I have a degree in teaching and $90 a day for most days. I work at a middle school and high school. Yes, it’s babysitting kids but if you’re really trying to help the kids it’s a lot more work than this.
Lol, I work in northern California. It's probably one of the highest in the country. The long term sub rate for my district is 410 a day. That one requires actual teaching and grading. And yes, if you actually do want to help kids, it is actual work hahaha
I only do it once a year because my income and expenses aren't that big to do it once a quarter. My tax guy just estimates my expenses and it's about $5k a year so it's not something that would raise a flag. Maybe I should deduct more 🤔
Man, $250 a day subbing is insane. In my district it's only $95 a day with a bachelor's degree, and the only jobs available are for elementary and middle school
You’re funny! 🤣 Getting ready to sub for elementary next week I don’t think it will be this boring. I think I will probably stick to middle school it’s convenient for me with school age kids of my own.
Elementary school is not always that bad. It highly depends on the group of students. Some are pretty ok and mellow while others are a straight up nightmare. As time goes along, you learn exactly which teachers/classes you love going to and which ones to run away from.
@@MrBons1Million I don’t really hate kids. What I hate is school. And also teachers. I always thought that the other teaches were douchebags who took themselves too seriously. But then I’ve always been a subversive sort of a guy.
It's good that you know what type of person you are and what type of environment works for you. If school brings back bad memories for you then don't go near it. It sounds horrible to be there day after day for you. I hope you found a place that you enjoy working at!
@@MrBons1Million To me teaching is just another shitty female oriented job. When I quit teaching I became first a merchant seaman for 8 years and then subsequently a barber for 20 years. The wonderful thing about barbering is that you can refuse service to unreasonable people. Then also you can post notices in the shop such as BOYS UNDER THE AGE OF SIX BUZZ CUTS WITH A #2 BLADE ONLY.
I'm usually working on my video scripts to film during my free period. You can do anything that doesn't make noise. Don't let the kids or other people catch you though lol
@@MrBons1Million That's cool that you can do that while you sub. Are you not supposed to work on video scripts while you sub or is this acceptable if an adult saw you? Wouldn't that be the same thing as studying which is acceptable to do when subbing highschool? Aside from studying is there anything else that won't get you in trouble if you're seen doing it while subbing?
@@MrBons1Million I was thinking reading manga would be fun but idk if I'd have to keep it on the downlow of if that's acceptable since it's basically reading a book with pictures lol.
You can't have sound cus it's distracting. You can definitely study, but don't be watching videos in class cus if they catch you they will give you a warning. You can definitely watch videos during your off periods.

Wow... where do you substitute teach where you earn $250 a day!? You have to live in a high cost of living area man. I only get paid $90 a day for the public school district I work for and $112 for the private school I work for here in Indiana.
Lol, I sub at San Meteo Union High School district in Northern California. The cost of living is probably the highest in the country hahaha. Is $90 a manageable living in Indiana?
@@MrBons1Million , not really. It's a sub standard non living wage. I barely make it & have to rely on public assistance to get by. McDonald's drive thru workers make more hourly than we do. It's a crock really. We don't even get a cost of living wage increase each year. We need to get unionized, but we have too many old farts who sub who are double dipping earning money to supplement their pensions so that's what makes it hard to organize. I hope I don't have to sub much longer, but it seems like once you get sucked in and start substitute teaching it's hard to get out. It's almost impossible to teach fulltime without going in debt for that damn teaching degree (I already got one useless degree - don't want another one. lol) and there aren't many decent places to work in this Rust Belt town.
Wow, that sounds tough. What job are you planning on switching to? If you're up for it, I do financial consulting to help people better understand their finances. I wouldn't charge you for it, but I would like to record our meeting in case I would like to use it future videos. Are you interested?
@@MrBons1Million , I do not know. I have tried different things but nothing has stuck. Either the place closed or management sucked & didn't want to train me, etc. and I found myself out of a job. I would like to get certified to teach, but don't want to go in debt to do it. I applied for Teach for America, but got rejected with no explanation. (They say only 20% of apps get accepted & most people have to apply 2-5 times before getting in.) They said I can apply again next year. One thing that might work is if I can find a decent paying job than just do one of the cheap online school options at nite so I can get certified to teach. Thanks for offering to give me financial advice, but I live really frugal & am pretty financially literate. I just don't make enough money. That's my problem. They treat substitute teachers like we are disposable and as you said in your video there really is no career advancement once you start substitute teaching. I have a good summer job I love though & I bring in a little money on the side selling mostly new and vintage toys and action figures on Ebay though. So those are bright spots in my life. I imagine someday I'll find a job that doesn't suck or find a way to teach full-time and get a teacher's salary as opposed to making peanuts as a sub. I taught English abroad in South Korea. But honestly I'm too old now and I got a dog. I don't really want to teach abroad again. (Not at this stage of my life anyway.) Need something more stable than that.
Yes, it can definitely be tough to get paid a liveable wage. Maybe you can consider moving to California or another state that has more opportunities. I know school districts here need subs and they pay well. Consider it. I can help you get started if you decide to move. You can actually apply first and move after you accepted as a sub. Then you can figure out what you want to do when you are more stable.
i just picked up my first assignment for tommorow! It will be my first day and I am so nervous do you have any advice to calm down?😟 It would be greaty appreciated thank you
Yea, so a few things to remember. 1. Kids love having subs, so they will already enjoy having you there. It's nice to go to a place that likes you. 2. People are generally nice. Just say that it's your first day and everyone will want to help you, even the kids. 3. Don't be too strict on them, just sit for an hour and then move on. Don't get personal with them. Good Luck!!!!
Hi there I was wondering if substitute teachers get health insurance. I think this is the perfect job for me as I don't have strong legs for walking I can walk but I walk slower than most due to mobility issues. I'm in California and I'm not sure if subs get health insurance working only 30 hours a week as a sub. I appreciate your video it's encouraging
Hey @LuxuriousLane, I do not think school districts give health insurance to subs. You can always email the specific district to see what they cover. You should try it out. I think most school districts in CA are about $150/day or more. Good Luck!
@@MrBons1Million Thanks so much for your answer I was wondering one last thing do you think anyone can be a sub I'm good at teaching math problems but am quite poor as a writer. I've been good at teaching things like factoring adding fractions math up to pre Algebra. However when it comes to writing my writing is quite bad.
Anyone can be a sub as long as you have a bachelor's degree, that's one of the requirements. Many teachers don't pre algebra and you don't need to write essays as a sub. If you only do high schools, then you'll have a very easy time.
Im in the wrong state 😅😅 i keep seeing all these subs say they make 200+ a day. Wherr im at its only $110. If you get a long term position, 24+ days, its like 170 or 180 something 😭😭 and you are expected to actually teach (minimum of course but still)
Yes. Smile and genuinely feel happy to be there even if it's for the first 2 min of the introduction. Just say hi and introduce yourself. Keep it short. Don't try to be the strict one cus that will just make it harder for you. Most kids will listen to you if you just ask nicely. Good luck
Ohh. high school subbing is not bad.But I sub for all grade levels. It's not boring, and it's really hard and tiresome. I like being able to help teachers. I feel like alot of teachers don't get the support they need. And at least I can support many of them.
I salute you for your help. I do know some subs like that, and they are generally the new ones because they get worn out from the lack of help and respect that they deserve. Teachers definitely need more help. Subbing for them can definitely be tiring if you are doing all grades. I hope you can help them for as long as you are able. Best of Luck!
I do want to sub in your school district. I subbed last fall in my school district, I made $17/hour, no benefits. I ended up going back to full time teaching because I couldn't afford aftercare for my kids so I could work, as a sub I was a contractor and not an employee of the district.
Aww, yeah, that's what sucks about being a sub. You don't get any benefits and if you are in a bad district then you might not be able to afford regular expenses if you have a family. Good Luck Kimberly!
Most school wifi aren't good, so you need to talk to teachers for a bit and ask them for the teacher wifi. Different school will use the same Wi-Fi pass if they are in the same district. If it sucks then I use my hot spot.
@@MrBons1Million I was reading on Reddit that if you're on the school wi-fi then IT department can see what your doing on the computer. Idk if it's true or not but if it was true I'd rather just use hotspot for the sake of privacy.
Very possible, but most sites are blocked and as long as you are not doing anything inappropriate, they don't check. Just cus they can check doesn't mean they will.
@@MrBons1Million thanks! I finally got around to registering for cbest. I did well on the practice test. Thanks for making this video and giving me motivation to be a sub 😎
There are people out there predicting SHIBA inu will go to a dollar can you show us the math that proves or disprove the theory I saw the XRP video you posted and I agree with you on that one Help us understand what these people are talking about one dollar Shiba Inu
Hey Jason, thank you for asking. Unfortunately I don't make those videos anymore. But I will say that in order for Shiba Inu to get to $1 it would have to burn 99% of their coins and no one would do that. They wouldn't be able to burn that much with transactional burning. It might get to $1 in 150 years with inflation and burning together.
Laziest job in America? I don't think so... consider how many jobs politicians hand out to their buddies/family members who never show up and still receive a paycheck! 🤔 Your critique of the substitute teacher profession is spot on! You do not get paid enough to take on causes like correcting/influencing student behavior. Certainly going into dangerous schools or classrooms is foolish! There are plenty of openings to select from. So, "cherry pick" the best districts, high schools and classes (STEM, CAAPA and business academies). A few points you fail to mention... (1) You can take advantage of the all the free time because every classroom has a staff computer and internet access. I was a NASDAQ stock "day trader" while subbing. (2) You do get the freedom to pick the days that you want to work. Being a professional ski instructor by trade, I only subbed on winter days when I had no private lessons. Interesting vlog though! 👍
Lol I'm not very well versed in the dirty deals of politics, but I'll take your word for it. And yes, I'm privileged enough to pick good schools and ignore bad ones. It's just not worth it. I completely agree with using your free time to do other things. It gives me the flexibility and mental capacity to do things I want to do. I've also day traded while subbing lol.
I have subbed for southern and northern California. Most of it is the same. I don't know how it is in Florida, but I usually avoid hard schools. Are there no easy schools in Florida?
I’m a certified teacher. Hate subbing. Kids immediately disregard you and the class when they realize their teacher isn’t there. You’re being tested by kids all day and even teachers! Both groups try to bully you in some way. I didn’t set up the room myself so I usually hate it!! I don’t know where anything is and it feels very dysfunctional. Teachers leave crappy plans, tech plans, or give stupid info but not what you really need. This is probably because I’m a teacher but it sucks honestly. I do it for extra cash when I have time off from my main job. The pay is also horrendous for what I’m expected to do, $20 a day where I am.
Wow, that's crazy! $20 a day? That sounds illegal. And everything you just describe is absolutely correct. Nobody respects you as a sub. But I feel that you are caring too much as a teacher yourself. My only job there is to keep the students in class for the period. I don't care if they don't do any work. If you just care less, your job would be a lot easier, but I wouldn't do it for $20 a day. That's just ridiculous.
Sub up in Canada. And yeah, I wanted to be mad at this but some days, haha. Some days are definitely a lot harder, but I've had those "Sitting around all day is hard work" days. As for the time off, Canada had Employment Insurance that I can claim during off-season times, and I have a side-hustle making art that fills in the gaps nicely.
Nice. Yes if you are actively subbing and helping kids, it is definitely work. But if not, then you can just sit and do your side hustle. Canada sounds amazing. No employment insurance here in the states.
This is inaccurate and an insult to substitute teachers. Subbing for elementary school is not a lazy job, in fact, it's a rewarding one. You are really involved, though it's the original teacher who makes the lesson plan, you carry it out. You also sub for the teacher, so you marshal the students on their schedules, deal with emotional concerns and being tactful in handling very young kids. The kids also love you, give you gifts (origami, food from cafeteria they don't want to eat, and write thank you notes to you). Also, if you only sub for high school, there's a risk of getting less consistent jobs. I personally sub for all levels, and the elementary ones are both exhausting and rewarding. Middle school can be tough too. Grade 7s lack empathy, tactfulness and self-control, you have to deal with them, especially in serious programs like the Puente program where you have to make sure they do their work.
I don't mean to insult subs, I know first hand how hard it is to sub for elementary and middle school. This video is for people who need extra money while figuring out what they want to do. I would never say it's easy to do elementary and middle school. It depends on your district, but I have gotten constant jubs from HS subs. Thank you for your work.
@@MrBons1Million Gotcha. I want to do it only for high school as well but it's hard to decide. Subbing for elementary school is a really nice feeling. You are connected to the students and you feel more like a teacher. In a kindergarten class, there was a teaching aide and she's much better at handling kids but she kept pointing to me as the "teacher" (guest teacher) whenever someone comes to class and I make all the decisions and kids have to ask me for permission to do things. I don't know where I'm going with this but I guess I meant to say elementary schools make you feel like a teacher, high schools, nobody cares about you.
Yeah, nobody cares, but that just means you don't have to care about them. I just feel bad for subs that try so hard in elementary school and not get paid that much. Consider making choices that is best for you.
@@MrBons1Million Ok, well make that transparent then. Why not use your voice for good instead of basically putting down people in education? Is it funny that teachers work hard & are not well paid for it? I don't find it humorous.
You are not doing the job properly if this is a typical day. Try actually teaching and do laps of the class to check they all understand and are on task. Sort out conflicts and problems. Give feedback to the teacher and prepare for the next lesson ahead of time. Check rolls, the school email and messages. And do make sure the room is tidy at the end. This is misrepresented and of course there will be no sick or holiday pay. ☑️
I agree with doing laps and giving feedback, but most subs do not teach. How would they teach a foreign language or physics? Teaching is expected in elementary and middle school, but not in high school. As for preparing for the lesson, it does not take that long if you don't teach. I don't think I'm misrepresenting it.
You took the time to plan & edit this video & didn't find your content inappropriate at all? Did you ever pause and think about what kind of message you were sending? I agree with many people here that this video was insulting. You're supposedly an educated person & you're basically saying you're lazy & not putting in the work (and worse letting everyone know). This isn't professional & I don't think parents, teachers, etc. would be happy to know this is how you view & treat your job. Many districts would frown upon this sort of thing. Some even have policies about not using your phone when inappropriate to & to be careful about what you say about your district etc. You're also not transparent in that this only relates to your choice of working at high schools & that how they operate makes it for an easy day for you. This video isn't a good review of what it's like to substitute teach in a general sense. Your specific experiences are very limited & you're just seeking something easy instead of something that will be rewarding, and challenging for you to help you grow and learn from a variety of experiences. You aren't in this for the right reasons if you're only seeking out good pay for little work.
Wow, you are so pessimistic. Are you a teacher or another sub? But let me clarify some of your points. 1. I did say that this is high school only. Lower grades require a lot more work. 2. In terms of transparency, Believe it or not, this is what most subs do. As for if it is appropriate, yes it is. Despite the 5-8 commenters who point out what you said, I've had just as many people commenting about being a sub. There is a shortage of teachers and subs so do you think that people would consider it if I said that being a sub is hard and rewarding? I've had more success getting sub applications with this video than people saying that it is rewarding. Also, this video is for people who are struggling either financially or are trying to find themselves. There are people out there who just need some time off to think about their next job and being a sub is a good transition for them to do that. If you find this video insulting then you probably put a lot of work into being a sub, but this video was never meant for you. It was meant to get more subs to help schools and to give struggling people options for extra income.

You sound like a terrible teacher. Would you want your children being taught by someone like you who wants to put as little as effort as possible into their job? What kind of example are you setting. The children deserve better than having someone so disinterested. A good teacher is one that makes their students excited to come to class and want to learn. He is also passionate about learning and sharing his knowledge with the students. He also cares about his students and believes in them so that they can have the confidence to succeed. Students will remember good teachers for the rest of their lives.
Well, you're not wrong. I wouldn't want someone like me as a teacher either. That is why I'm not one. But your comment also propagates a belief that any teacher who doesn't try hard to do that is a bad teacher. You don't take into account how hard teachers work when they are dealing with kids who just Don't want to learn and are disruptive. Brand new teachers are very passionate about teaching, but that passion fades after 10-20 years. Now, I see teachers talk about bad students in the teacher lounge as well as saying how they can't wait to retire. I know I won't make it as a teacher, that's why I'm not one, but I also can't blame teachers who have given up cus it is just that difficult to teach these days when you are fighting against phones and computers all the time.

@@MrBons1Million Hi! I am on my way to start Subbing next week. I am very nervous. Are there tricks to choosing easier classrooms? I am set up to start Subbing in two different public school districts in Phoenix. I know enough not to choose middle school jobs, that would be crazy. 😂
Thanks for your help!
Yay!!
Yes, exactly!! I substitute teach as well. I have the same approach as you lol. However, sometimes, I have to let my "stern granny" side out lol
I did it for 3 years. It was fine on some days. Other days were a bit challenging. Depended on the group of kids. Some were awesome and some….well I never went back again.
@@amylee8969 250-300 a day for basically baby sitting is a great reason for me to keep going back 😂
@john_coleman
I stick to elementary b/c it’s my only area where I have valid experience. I don’t know anything about dealing with middle and high schoolers. After time goes by, you learn what classes are mellow that you love going to, which classes are average and don’t mind taking on, and which classes are awful and naughty that you run away from like the plague
you will make it! and we all going to make it!!
Thanks for your support Elias👍😊
So you work in the hood, huh?
Make this more clear on your station, you are doing a disservice to hardworking relief teachers. 🤞
@@binge1804🎯🎯🤣🤣🤣🤣
You had a good day with no fights or students throwing pencils in your face just because you tell them to be quiet. 😂
After elementary, teachers always give them independent work to do.
After their done I say my favorite line to middle schoolers “find something else to do! Get your homework done, read a book, heck, you can even talk as long a you aren’t causing trouble.”
I've learned today that lifeguard not a lazy job, and that was a high bar since for 1/3 of the day I sit in the guard office looking out the window
Great video by the way!
I absolutely agree. It can get extremely boring. But if you have a second work from home job or a side business, then you can do that at school 😆
What do you do now ?
@dianadelcid931 I'm an accountant now which can be boring but atleast I get to zone out and listen to podcasts/RUclips. Can't really do that when subbing haha
Lol, you can't listen to or watch RUclips as a sub, but you can read pretty much anything. But there is no growth as a sub. At least as an accountant you can go up the ladder.
I was already out of college and already had my teaching credential. I subbed until I was hired by that same district 3 years later.
Good luck mr Bon. Stay consistent
Thanks, I'll try!
You've tickled the funny bone of a Canadian in the Okanagan. Keep on following your dream. 😍
Thank you Jeff! Will do!
Where do you work where class doesn't start until 8:15 and you only have three classes a day!? Lol
When I teach high school I have to get there by like 7:25am and I have six classes each day!
Yeah, they have block schedules so it's about 3-4 classes a day with longer periods. And they start later. Maybe you should consider coming to California lol
You got me hopeful that this is good side gig though!
It is definitely a good side hustle, but it just depends on what state you are in. Some states don't pay very much.
No this is fake this is not even close to what subbing is like.
The best intro to sub teaching I’ve found! Many thanks!
You're welcome 😁
One of the most hilarious videos ever. 😂😂😂
I'm glad you enjoyed it 😁
After teaching for 20 years in a high school, and 5 of those in continuation high school. ❤
Yes, subs have all the pros none of the cons, except lower pay lol. Anyone who wants to do Elementary is special. I can't do it 😂
whoa, this is pretty spot on, though I do sub for Middle School as well and they require a bit more maintenance haha!
Thanks lol. That's why I avoid middle and elementary schools like the plague.
@MrBons1Million
I mostly did elementary b/c that’s my area of experience. I majored in elementary teaching. I hate middle school but I’ve been in a few classes to sub b/c nothing else was available. I made it easy on myself.
Take attendance, tell them what their independent assignments are, let them do whatever they want AS LONG as they don’t cause trouble.
omg u were a sub for my ap calc and ap psych class
Yeah, Aragon right? I sub there a lot.
Subbing is great unless you get a class with a teachers aide who can't get the hint that you dont want to do small talk with them....
Lol, yeah, it gets awkward when that happens. But I'm usually the one doing that, so that doesn't happen to me 😂
I have a side business subbing fills in the gaps.
Yes, subbing is best suited for people starting other side businesses so they can have a little extra income.
Yup. self employed and just applied to be a sub. Times are hard right now. Hoping this is an ez mode job. Mr Bons getting me hyped up.
Good Luck! Just make sure it's for high schools. Elementary school sub is a tough job.
@@MrBons1Million Yeah I checked k-12 but may tell them high school or jr high only if I end up doing it.
You nailed it. It is so boring. But with lower grades, lots and lots of decisions: kids constantly ask whether they can do this or that.
Yes, I never do elementary schools 😂
What state are you working in? I work in IL at a school with one of the best sub rates in the area. I make $160 for long term sub positions since I have a degree in teaching and $90 a day for most days. I work at a middle school and high school. Yes, it’s babysitting kids but if you’re really trying to help the kids it’s a lot more work than this.
Lol, I work in northern California. It's probably one of the highest in the country. The long term sub rate for my district is 410 a day. That one requires actual teaching and grading. And yes, if you actually do want to help kids, it is actual work hahaha
As an independent contractor, filing a 1099, how many times a year do you file and pay taxes?
I only do it once a year because my income and expenses aren't that big to do it once a quarter. My tax guy just estimates my expenses and it's about $5k a year so it's not something that would raise a flag. Maybe I should deduct more 🤔
Wow where are you were subs get $250! My district is only $120.
I work in San Mateo. It's in Northern California in the bay area 😂
Man, $250 a day subbing is insane. In my district it's only $95 a day with a bachelor's degree, and the only jobs available are for elementary and middle school
Omg, that's terrible. I would probably get a real job if I only get that for doing elementary and middle school. Good Luck Sam!
@@MrBons1Million Thanks man, you too. On the good luck thing, not the 'getting a real job' thing, lol
I don’t know which district you work in or where, but $250 a day is unheard of.
Yeah, it's crazy🤣. I live in northern California and it's in the San Mateo Union High School District.
3rd period geometry loves you Mr Bon 🫶🫶
Love you guys too!
You’re funny! 🤣 Getting ready to sub for elementary next week I don’t think it will be this boring. I think I will probably stick to middle school it’s convenient for me with school age kids of my own.
Elementary school is a nightmare for me lol. Good luck with middle school. You should try high school sometimes.
Elementary school is not always that bad. It highly depends on the group of students. Some are pretty ok and mellow while others are a straight up nightmare. As time goes along, you learn exactly which teachers/classes you love going to and which ones to run away from.
I wouldn’t even consider doing it and I’ve got 8 years teaching experience. But then I hate kids so what can you expect?
It depends on how much you hate kids lol. You definitely don't teach kids as a sub so it might be okay lol.
I think I want to be a substitute teacher now
You should! They are always looking for new subs.
Technically, because of my TBI and terminal illiness, I'm a zombie. So I'm looking forward to the happy career change

I’m interested in subbing my my kids school district, but no one picks up the phone at the district office for me to find out how I can do this 😢

What do you normally do after you take attendance and the students are doing their busy work?

The irony is that a majority of millionaires started as teachers.
Interesting video. So you can study or watch RUclips videos or whatever you want at your computer after you take attendance and hand out work packets?

Now in CA you don’t even need a CBEST
Yes, you can get it waived with a few of the college classes you have already taken.
Hi can a sub can work with vendor and district simultaneously?
Very nice video
Probably, but why? Wouldn't the district pay more? I've had a job every day working with the district in California

You need to get out of that district. Are you talking about High school students?
i just picked up my first assignment for tommorow!
@@MrBons1Million Wow thank you so much for your advice it has really lifted weight off my shoulders. I will go in tomorrow with your words in mind🙂

If you get a long term position, 24+ days, its like 170 or 180 something 😭😭 and you are expected to actually teach (minimum of course but still)
Ugh, come to California! I think most districts are at $150 now, but a lot of them are close to $200. I would not do long term for that much.
Man your funny lol😂 Great video!
Thanks man! Much appreciated ☺️
Do you need to join teacher union?
Nope 😁
hey mr. bon i’m back! just a question, do u have any tips on introducing yourself to the class? :)
Bro forgot to try elementary school...
Tried elementary. Never coming back there again. That place is a zoo.
Im curious, where do you get paid $250/day subbing? They pay us $11/hour in the district where I sub. Not worth it at all
I live in northern California, the bay area. We probably have the highest rates in the country. Where are you? $11/hr seems very low to me.
My district does $90 a day -_-
I'm sorry. Maybe go to California 😂
@ I’m moving to Finland soon though
Yay!! Good luck! That sounds amazing!
Do y'all use the school wi-fi or just hot spot on your phone?🤔
What state is this?
It's in California. Northern California to be more precise.

Hey Jason, thank you for asking. Unfortunately I don't make those videos anymore. No, I work directly with the district. It should pay more than an agency.
Laziest job in America?
I don't think so... consider how many jobs politicians hand out to their buddies/family members who never show up and still receive a paycheck! 🤔
Your critique of the substitute teacher profession is spot on!
Ok let’s all line up and work at this guys school because every word out of his mouth was WRONG….
Which part? I was talking about high school subs. Other subs actually have to teach.
@@MrBons1Million high school in your particular school in Your particular area. Try coming Florida and teaching high school I’d like to see it!

@@MrBons1Million haha. I meant 20/h and only 140 a day. Still pretty abysmal
Yeah, I agree. That's definitely not a lot after tax.

Thanks Felicia! I'm glad someone gets my humor.
No employment insurance here in the states.
where do you live that a sub gets 250 a day ?
I live in San Mateo in Northern California lol
LOL
$250 a day for subbing? Tell me where do you sub at? Please. I’m a teacher and I don’t even make that much. 😊
I sub in San Mateo Union High School District. Where are you teaching? It's hard for me to imagine teaching kids for less than 45k a year.
@@MrBons1Million I am in Tulsa Oklahoma.
@@pierrem4367what’s the average teacher pay in Tulsa? My sisters are both teachers here in California and they make around $90-100k a year, been there for 8 and 12 years, respectively. Busy cost of living here is higher than in your area. We are in central California.
@@LewisC-t1f Tulsa average is $45k. Cant do anything with that.
Where are you substitute teaching? i don't believe this.
Lol I showed it in the video but in case you missed it. It is the San Mateo Union High School district.
Disney attractions is pretty lazy - 😂 all you do is stand & herd people 😂
You have to actually STAND & WALK AROUND. Subbing still seems lazier to me. And it pays more than Disneyland
😂😂😂😂😂 funny video
250 a day were a u subbin?
It's in San Mateo Unified High School District in Northern California lol
I know I won't make it as a teacher, that's why I'm not one, but I also can't blame teachers who have given up cus it is just that difficult to teach these days when you are fighting against phones and computers all the time.
talk about Arbitrum plz
I want to become a sub lol
You should!! 😂
After 20 years of subbing l can tell you its nothing like that. Try subbing with Kelly after subs were outsourced by their own company then tell me was it easy
I'm sorry to hear that. I've been subbing for about 8 years now, on and off, and most of my experiences have been similar. I only sub for high schools and I only get hired by the school district so I don't know who Kelly is. There are definitely bad schools that I avoid, but I generally don't have any major problems because I don't pick fights with them by trying to be their boss. I try to reason with them and if it doesn't work, well, I only have to see them for an hour. It really depends on what schools you are working with. I like to go to the good schools. Where are you subbing from?
Yeah I doubt this was an actual class.
It was an actual class. It was just my break period.
You must be new. Lol
Wrong…Wrong.,,Wrong! I was a Substitute Teacher for 20 years and never considered myself to be a babysitter…There was FAR too much work to do in the classroom! I would like to know what school this gentleman works at, because his job looks ‘way TOO EASY! 🥱🥱🥱🥱
I was a high school sub in San Mateo Union High School District. Where are you working at? Elementary and middle school subs have to do a lot of work.
