    I was 19, scrambling on the floor with my mate Des, celebrating. We were drinking cans of beer during the game, we were nicely pissed.

      I seem to remember They weren't too concerned about alcohol, I was 10 in the seats and my dad got me a lager & lemonade- that was the only highlight for me ! (Strangely I've still got a silk Villa scarf I found outside the stadium)....

    3 mistakes here for the goal. Kevin Keelan should have been more assertive when he came for that cross in the first place. Ray Graydon totally messed up his kick + good save by Keelan. But if the Norwich defenders had run in after that first kick that is a chance they could have beaten Graydon, as the ball goes to the other side of the goal.

      I'd say Keelan shouldn't have come for the corner cross . & yes when the ball is put in the net its like 'spot the defender' ...it was shambles really ,Machin had to have pain killing injections to get through & I remember Norwichs winger Johnny Miller had 2 corners in the first half - both of which went into the side netting . & N.C.s previous final in 73 against Spurs was possibly worse !

      Of course Ron Saunders had been(a succesful) manager at Norwich & joined Villa about a year before- & he did a good job there as well , a real 'no nonsense' type ....

      Yes, Norwich defenders were very slow to react - Graydon even had time to take a touch and control it before smashing it home.

    Brilliant save by Mel Machin.

      0:40 - i always thought he was sent off for it - but no just (temporarily) injured - not even a booking?

      @@mrgobrien No, referees were very lenient about that sort of thing back then. Same thing happened when Terry McDermott handled on the line in the 1981 final.

    I think this was a Saturday afternoon game and was not live like 99% of games. And I remember world of sport or grandstand going to this game and that moment. I really took defeat to heart and still do. Its that bad that I pretended to do not care.

      Yes I was at the match - league Cup Finals were played on Saturdays & shown on itv the next day ...though that was about all the highlights in an awful match.

      @@andchat6241 Aston Villa vs Everton 1977 first final game @ Wembley was a poor game. If you seek out the highlights here you see the commentator Brian Moore say that early on, and how they had to scrape hard to find some highlights to show.

    • @andchat6241
      @andchat6241 Год назад +1

      @@virtuafighter3 I can remember it well surprisingly- and Brian Moore said something like ''just about got 60 seconds of highlights from the match" !!

      No the League Cup finals weren't shown live until the 80s ,when the game was switched to Sunday . They did show the league Cup final replays live ( if needed) as they were played midweek.

      @@andchat6241 midweek final replays at neutral grounds like villa park and hillsborough (e.g. 1981 and 1984) were shown live - i think 1985 was the first live wembley final though - and yes the 1977 wembley final was dull (not helped by no extra time despite a draw) - the highlight was probably the players looking around the pitch for a spur (spike) that had come off a bandman's shoe at half time - probably most famous for that - they never did find it.
