    You forget how huge Villa Park was back then with the Witton End (when did it become The North End?) being terracing as well as the Holte. This match was the first time I'd stood in the Holte - had always sat before and had been going since 68. I was only a kid. My eyes were on stalks. Witton End all blue, the Holte absolutely rocking. Loved it. Without terracing football is nothing. Just look at the crowd here - it's fantastic. The Holte is awesome. Floodlights AV. Great times.

      Standing on a packed terrace to watch a big game was an electrifying experience. Football will never be like that again. Modern fans don't know what they missed.

      I remember the north stand being built around 1978 ish, the old open witton end was massive, well for a excitable 12 year old anyway.

    I found the programme today from this very match, with a change from the printed line up, John Robson wrote in, in my old man's hand, whom sadly passed on the 28th June last year. Even better, a programme from the 1957 F A Cup final when the Mighty Villa beat the Busby babes. Cheers Dad, 'Stephen Frank Edwards' forever r I p, or more like play football in the skies with his great mate Peter Burden, (also sadly passed, just before Dad) & have his paint brush out,(fantastic artist) & great footballer couple of trials at Villa, marked Phil Woosnam out the game he told me, then disappointed, heard nothing, disappointed, didn't stay fit, unexpectedly asked bk weeks later sadly injured & unfit :( c'est last vie. Thanks for the programmes Dad, nice surprise ❤ Up The Villa ☝👍🙂

    If we'd known back then just how good the "new boy" with the blond hair and the red tie would be. Great upload, Villa Boy. I remember the match well - as I do every match when we beat the Blues :-)

    The Holte End was mountainous. I think it held 30,000 at one time. It must have been the biggest end terrace. That or the South Bank at Molineux.

      The South Bank at molineux was deemed the largest terrace back then, but there couldn't have been much in it?
      I went to see West ham v Ipswich in 75 at villa Park and the old Witton end was almost same size as the holte end.
      Proper football grounds with real fans.

    When the players and fans were British, how sad the game is now.....

    • @user-kn8un4ru8p
      @user-kn8un4ru8p 2 месяца назад

      Is the game really sad now because of non-British players?
      Would you have said Mark Walters was British......he certainly doesn't look it.
      What is your point?
