- How to reset the service interval reminder/indicator/light/message on any year of Land Rover Freelander 2.
In the first half of the video I show how to reset the service indicator on pre-facelift 2006 to 2010 models.
Skip to 7 mins in to see how to reset the service indicator on later facelift models 2010 onwards.
Be aware that on later models the ECU needs to see the bonnet open, so if you have disabled the bonnet alarm switch then this method may not work.
many thanks Beavis ,this worked a treat,,,,these are the things the dealers dont want u to know
Did the second reset, bonnet and door open, worked a treat first time. Warning disappeared at about 50 seconds, thanks very much 👍
Had to do both resets shown on the video on my 2012 freelander 2 model . And it cleared both the oil service notification to go to a local dealer. And the next oil service due .. Thankyou you very much ...
The dealer where I had the oil service done couldn't reset this for me .. the wonders of you tube videos like this is second to none..
Thanks Sarah, glad to hear you found my video useful!
Facelift 2010 model. I timed with a stopwatch and you are exactly right, the message on the righthand display disappeared on the 60th second! Perfect, thanks very much.
mine 2010 --10 holes in grille --first one part of video--done with in a minute thank you
A big thank-you to you, Beavis. This worked on a Halewood built, MY11 Freelander 2 Diesel 2.2 SD4. I used the first method to reset my dist/date/end ... but that didn't get rid of the visit dealer message. The bonnet unlatched with brake / accelerator pedal depressed worked (it took about 30-40 seconds). First try. I'd still like to purchase a diagnostics tool to clear some faults, but with so many to choose from I'd have to do some serious research as they're not cheap. Thanks mate. Great video.
Diagnostics video dropping tonight!
Just had my 2011 serviced and the garage didn’t reset it. Just did the brake and throttle truck and it worked first go. Thanks mate 👌👌👌
2012 car worked first time with pedal pressing. Many thanks!
Spot on. Ours is a 2010 face lift, so your second option. Brilliantly explained. Worked first time.
I have a 2011 LR2 and it worked the way you did your car so thank you very much
Wish I had watched this first before trying other methods and my expensive diagnostic machine!! Thanks
Hey thanks very much, gotta 2010 face lift model, tried 2 different ways of doing the reset until I saw this video, it worked 1st time doing the brake accelerator pedal method with the doors and bonnet way.
Cheers
Neil
Thank you so much for this video.I have a 2012 GS and have now reset the annual service indicator and the oil service message exactly in accordance with your instructions and it worked first time. The oil message disappeared exactly after 1 minute ! Thanks again.
Thanks Bob, glad to hear you found my video useful!
So glad I watched this.. very clear instructions which helped my 2011 model on first attempt. Thank you ☺️
Thank you so much for your upload 👍 used a comprehensive snap-on diagnostics and the manual reset without any luck on our 2011. Your foot pedal advice was spot on and I'm now back in the missus good books for a while, well when I've sorted the heater blower out 😅
Sir, you just saved my day. I was trying everything with the rectangular button the whole time.
Just watched this, I have a 2011 Freelander, it worked perfectly, many thanks for the video, very concise and easy to follow.
Thanks Mike! Glad it helped!
We have a 2012 freelander 2 and it let's me reset the service light two times the old way then I thought I would have to plug it in as the car would not let me reset it like that for the third time but the pedal reset worked.
Thank you for the information.
Opened bonnet done as he said and sure as an eye in a goat it worked first time !! Very useful !! Thanks lol
Thanks again, its a year already since I did this last but had to confirm with your brilliant video, and my light bar brackets are still doing their job, kind regards Derek from Norfolk 😊
Cheers, just got the reset on my 2011 auto done. The bonnet release and foot pedals 60 trick did it.
It worked...2007 model...so impressed with you and myself....
Thank you very much for the video. Just reset a 2012 with the bonnet open and pedals pressed.
It worked at the first attempt, after 1 minute the warning was reset.👍
Lots of accolades in the comments and deservedly so! Folks like yourself make working on the car a pleasure. It's knowing where to tap😂 that matters
I have a 2011 facelift model and it worked first time!

@@BeavisPits left hand drive, Netherlands, had to leave the right hand door open.
Excellent! Thanks!
This worked first time! - thanks so much for posting this, Colin.
Worked first time on my 2010 model. And I forgot to leave the door open for the first 15 seconds or so. Many thanks

Worked for me !! Thx from Brazil !! 🍺

Worked like a charm first time. Thanks FL2 Jedi master 👍👍👍
Worked on second attempt on my 2011 👏 thanks 👌
2010 Facelift, worked fine on 2nd attempt. As advised in the video you may need to repeat the process if it doesn't succeed first time.
Worked a dream on third attempt. Many thanks!
Thank you so much for showing us this
Very clearly explained on the two models.
Worked perfectly, thanks for your help
Thank you for the video it worked first time thank you again
ive just realised something. i thought you just had to press the button and let go and the dash would light up. but nooooo, typical ford have to make it difficult! i thought it just wasnt working, and why not, i only paid £3,400 for her. and the reason im even posting is that my car is diesel so the glow plugs need to heat up in the winter before you start it and they dont if you just put your foot on the clutch and press the button. so again, thank you for showing me the correct way to do things.
Check out my “Cold starting trick” video
Absolutely bob-on information. Superb thank you.
Thank you second option worked first time
Worked a treat, many thanks.
Yesssssssss it bloody worked.. Fab, many thanks. 👍👍👍👍👍😁
Worked a treat on my 2012. Awesome
Hi yes mine is face lift 2010 and it worked on 3rd time .
Thx so much man. Work very well here!
For me worked perfectly on my Freelander 2 2013
Thanks for everything you do
Thank you Christopher!
Excellent, thank you. Top Man!
Mine is a face lifted one 2010 it took around 45 seconds of holding down the brake pedal and throttle together for the light to reset
On my FL2 SD4 SE 2011 worked first, thank you!
Great! Left hand drive?
Thanks! It works! 2012 y. Freelander 2
Thank you, mine is 2010 and it worked on 1st time.
Worked first time many thanks
Works perfectly for oil service
Thnx....worked 1 st attempt...😁
Thank you i did it with my lr2 2007 great 👍
Just a point, on the later facelift models there is no dock for the key (i.e. you do not insert the key) it just needs to be in the car somewhere.
Yes, you are correct, later models don’t need the key inserting
Thanks a lot from Poland
Great video! Could you assist on locating the tmps light on a 2011 LR2?
Thanks, can you explain what you mean by tmps light?
@@BeavisPits Sure, the tire-pressure monitoring system.
@@BeavisPits I keep reading it’s a button under the steering wheel? I’m not locating it. I want to reset the message about low tire pressure.
Later Freelander 2s may have this feature but I’ve not got it on my 2009. I’ve fitted an after-market TPMS.
@@BeavisPits I see. Do you know how to reset the tmps message?
It works, thank you soo much😊
Worked like magic!
How come your airbag casing hasn't lifted? I've been wondering whether to try warming mine with a mild heat gun to attempt to reshape it. p.s. Beavis >12 minutes to complete a 20 second procedure, I think this may be your best ASMR video yet. @_'-'
The airbag cover on the steering wheel can lift due to hot sun. I live in UK so always raining! Apologies for another excessively long video. That is my style though...1 minute to show the fix, and another 11 minutes of me rambling on! 😂😂😂
Is there here a different technic for North American Land Rover LR2? I’m in Canada so the hood latch is on the drivers side. Not sure what door to open and close first. Great video I’m hoping it will work for my 2012 just not sure on the sequence?
Just follow it but swap drivers and passenger sides, should work
How to do the second method if the car has the steering wheel on the left side?
From what I’ve heard, this is exactly the same. You don’t need to swap the doors over as such. Please try it and let me know how you get on.
@@BeavisPits I've tried it many times. It doesn't work.
@alexpuiu3018 many left hand drive owners have used this method successfully. Did you try it with the doors the other way around? What year is your car?
@@BeavisPits yes I tried, 2010
It worked for my automatic LR2 2008 but only when I pressed start and reset button together. ☺☺☺☺☺☺👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Will try this.
150k - Do you recommend an engine flush or special oil?
Just the correct oil for your engine. Usually 5W30 but check. See my fluids video.
Brilliant 👏 👏 👏
Works perfect ty ☺️
интервал замены масла сбросил с 6 или 7 попытки. ставить и убирать охрану не нужно. дверь водителя (левая) и капот открыты постоянно. работает 1 метод- для автомобиля 2009 года. моя машина 2011 года выпуска.
Oil change interval reset on 6th or 7th attempt. No need to set or remove security. Driver's door (left) and hood are open all the time. 1 method works - for a 2009 car. My car is 2011.
Mine is 2012 model,2.2 TDS SE Diesel ,it is working.
Oil service alarm cleared
Hi oil service light removed on my 2010 freelander 2 but the -13 days stayed on any help on getting days off please
You need to reset the days too, it is a two stage reset, first reset dist then reset date
@BeavisPits thanks done it and all clear now.
Would this also work on an automatic? How would one go about with the peddles?
Exactly the same process on an auto
@@BeavisPits Thanks. Kind Regards. Dirk.
Just done manual reset time succsesful but could not do distance. Maybe because I tried with snap on solus which said it had reset it but display still showed service required.
Thanks a lot dear v
Hello,
I have a Freelander 2, MY 2012, LHD. With the first method I get the message: "cannot reset". Unfortunately, the second method doesn't work for me. I tried to convert the second method for the LHD car, since my driver's door is on the left side, I also tried the original method for RHD 1:1, both 4x for about 2min each. My service indicator of ~3800 days remains on the display. Is there a solution for my LHD car?
greetings from Germany
2012 is facelift so the 2nd method is the one to use. Strange that it doesn’t work. Maybe your dealer did something to the software so you have to take it to them for servicing?
Hi, thanks for the fast reply.
With our only dealer at 100km it's such a thing...He says he doesn't know if he can...bring your car to us for 8 hours, we only charge ~150€ an hour. We say cutthroat here in German.
The same with my display, it's in Italian because it's reimported. He doesn't know if he can. Okay, it stays Italian and I'm learning some words now ;)
Lastly... Awesome car@@BeavisPits 💪😁👍
Hi just checking if you can help me I’ve bought a Freelander 2 2.2 td4 .e 2009 from Italy how do I change the language? To english. On the dash screen cheers Sid.
I think this can only be set by the dealer using their special equipment. If you join one of the Facebook groups and ask on there, I’m sure somebody would know the answer for sure.
@@BeavisPits thank you very much will do
@sidjoyce3793 did you found out how to do it?
@@alexpuiu3018 not yet I think it’s gonna be the main dealer to reset
Hi,
My freelander 2014 and doesn’t work by the above procedures.
Please show me how can I reset mine. Thanks
Did you follow the 2nd half of the video? Works for everyone else.
Is it possible to reset ‘Oil Service’ indicator?
Yes, watch this video from 7m8s
Does the second option (facelift) work with an automatic?
Yes, it should do
@@BeavisPits Thank you! I tried it and worked on the first attempt. Many thanks!
