For those commenting that i'm "Short sighted" and that these features will be "important differences in the fututre" It's not that I don't understand their "future potential" it's that I functionally dissagree with releasing ships without their gameplay in the game, and this is something CIG has been saying themselves they don't want to do either.
So when they just copy paste the original Cutter which i'm already a fan of, and fill it with non functional objects and aren't even bothered to change the values of the fuel tank, the main selling point of the ship that they're marketing it as on launch it stands out and I feel warranted in pointing out how specifically rediculous it is.
If they really wanted to sell it as is, they should have sold it as a Jpeg concept. And even that I'm not a fan of but it's better than this.
I don't believe in buying something that doesn't do what it's supposed to do, plain and simple.

    • @DarthPoyner
      @DarthPoyner Год назад +6

First off, the rambler features besides the tank are, like you stated, useless. Even later they will be. We can store food in the storage bins. We don't need a processor. You don't need a table to eat. Ask any trucker. Turn the shitter to face the bed and you can gain enough room to put a fold out chair table thing if you want. How many gun racks do you need for one person? The one has plenty of room for what you need. I would even say get rid of the large bay and just make it 2 rifle bays instead. Anything more can be put in storage. The whole point of a gunrack is to quickly grab a weapon if boarded.
So you could easily squeeze all of that back down to Scout proportions.
Give the new cabin and elongated cargo to the base. Widen the cargo a slight bit to make it easier to use some of the smaller vehicles. Add the fuel tank (though I think you wanting the 4k fuel again is a bit much) and BAM. Cutter perfection.
Then if you want to do a scout variant, put in the radar, increase base speed, maybe turn one of the 4 cargo slots into a smuggler slot, and some other small feature. BAM, Scout.
Then for the third, make a medical variant and turn the entire elongated/widened cargo into a single med bed. Cutter Rescue baby!

it feels like those variants should have been tuning options for the ship. Like get the base version and you can go to Cousin Crow's and there you can tune your ship to be a radar variant, a loger range one withe a extra tank on the top, different truster options faster ones but that use a lot more fuel. and a interior option to build out the living space. That would even fit the look of drake.

cutter pilot here. I love the base version so much, it was my starter and I still use it all the time. mainly for just transporting myself and gear between stations/planets. While I'm definitely not impressed with the two variants, I can excuse the not-yet-implemented mechanics, and I don't mind seemingly "useless" features or furniture. What I think the entire cutter series suffers from is inefficient and awkward interior design. I think you are totally spot on that many of the rambler's features can be put in the base cutter without sacrificing the cargo space. There absolutely is space for a suit locker next to the bed, the item storage locker could be moved, say, above the bed, and the bathroom moved into a corner and rotated 90 degrees to offer more space for a food processor and maybe a fold-out jumpseat or table sort of thing. The Rambler would then need a total overhaul inside to make it much more attractive to justify sacrificing half the cargo space. Really add some livability features like a proper two-person table, bunk beds... just something that adds value to the rambler and justifies the increased hab size. I like your idea for the scout actually. Sorry for the ramble (lol) just a few thoughts.

Not enough extra cargo to make a difference, its not the only one with a bed, its the WORST for combat and maneuverability... the only thing it does better is carry a very small vehicle... which its not capable of taking advantage of in any practical way. And thats only using the cheapest for comparison. compare it to other starter packs its own price range, the Titan which is only 4 dollars more right now is better in every way that matters. Only 3 dollars up and id argue the 100i offers a better experience than tbe cutter in many ways since it has superior flight and firepower, its fuel scoops mean it has infinitely more fuel available, and it is small enough to act as a snub in some ships. base small quantum tank has a volume of 583 (aurora es), extended small tank range from 645 to 700 (pisces at 645 with the 100i at 700) and the cutter tanks are 980 per tank for a total of 1960 on the base and scout. the rambler has aux tanks listed but not implemented yet. so up to a standard 583 or even a extended (possibly) 980 third tank.

The Rambler has 3 hydrogen and 3 Quantum fuel tanks while the other variants have 2 each. This will likely reflect later when adjustments are made.

The cutter would make a perfect small dropship. Most people operate in small squads anyway. Put some seats in the cargo area with a lock off door to the cabin, paint it yellow and it works as a low operating cost taxi when not dropping troops. I don't want to sit on the cutter bed when I'm catching a ride from where I wrecked out my ship back to a spaceport.

Its pretty obvious why they added the variants *now* to the game, because, they wanted to close out the development on those ships, then move on to the next ones instead of having to circle back to a ship and assign developers to work on a ship that may be months or years old and the person that made it originally, may not be in the company or may be on another assignment and cant be pulled away. It is not a weird decision to make at all.

I just assume that the hydrogen is measured in how much volume it would fill at STP. Presumably, the ship would keep it as a liquid cryogenically (roughly 848 times more dense). For 300 kL, it works out to about one third of a cubic meter. It's not really enough reaction mass for what the ship can do, but most sci-fi fudges that anyway to allow cool ships.

The big thing i really dont understand about the Cutter variants and starter variants in general is this: why? The purpose of a starter is to be a general use, able to do nearly everything (albiet poorly) so a player can get a taste of multiple game loops as well as having a ship that for general transportation. Why so we need specialized medical, scanning, and scouting variants of something that is never going to actually be good at those things anyway? I understand we need some introductory ships for certain fields like the C8R, but the C8R isnt classified or advertized as a starter

probably the same as 100 series thought process. give a ship type with multiple "paths" to allow a fresh player to progress down the path they think they want or allow an older player to begin or try out a new game loop. I truly think that all the more specializedish ships ie cutter variants and c8r and the like should have the same variants in the competitor manufacturers. You cannot tell me that a cutter ambulance wouldnt be good or a scanning C8. And both need a police variant that can be used to scan players for illegal items and mark them with CS.

I think CIG promised 3 variants of the Cutter before they even knew what they were going to be. They would have known the original was going to be a starter ship. So that would have been pretty easy to define. But then they had the problem of differentiating the other two. The cutter scout is supposed to be a "first steps" into scanning/data running. Except that's the job of the Herald. So the scanning station is in the cargo bay to force a solo player to choose between piloting and scanning. And that is the problem with CIGs interior ship designs. They are hamstrung by this idiotic policy of not only forcing all the players into different parts of the ship. But also forcing ships to be under crewed because they think that will magically create emergent gameplay instead of just irritating the life out of everybody.

The cutter series is for starting out and seeing what you like, so long as it’s not combat. The base is really to get your feet wet in everything including exploration. You get a variant if you want something extra. Want to experience more of living in the verse while exploring you get the rambler. If you want to find stuff but you get the scout.
The only ships that offer the ability to live in the verse without going to a port for anything outside of fuel in the price range are the mustang beta and 300 series. The beta can’t do anything but combat and the 300 can’t carry any type of vehicles. And the 300 still costs more. The nomad is barley a starter ship at $80. And the cutter variants have 4 times the fuel as every other starter.
I really think the people complaining about the rambler are people that already purchased larger ships and have no use for the rambler, but if you realize it’s a starter ship for people that will pretty much only be using that starter ship, it’s carries a whole different impact

I saw the Cutter and its variants to be the rough equivalent to the Raptor from BSG. You can make a cargo, scout(scanner), and missile boat (smaller version of the Freelancer MIS). All of these can be flexible enough to be an individual's daily driver, and also to be the workhorses in a fleet being that they're small enough to be stored on carriers.

I love the idea of the Rambler but I don't like the execution. Less cargo space, and a lot of wasted space in the cab. Now its off the map again. The Rambler was supposed to have the long range and someone fouled up. Ten gets you one thjat it was a marketing driven release and was in act due ay IAE. You can get the PTV, STV, Mules and X1 (if yiou see the last names as having a role) in ther back of the Rambler with some care. The Ramble probably should have been set with facilities for two on board, there is enough gun stoage and seating, but then only one suit locker. Good ideas poorly im,plemented, but that's most of SC, the game that treats violent player interaction as a suibstitute for content. 🙂

Not one person said gee I sure wish that on my basic starter space RV I could double what was already one of the most generous gun racks on a starter ship. Right? But they did it to eat up the 1scu space it requires, so the back would be shorter. Cuz we can't have an stv back there, that would make it useful and then people won't need to upgrade.

Although I don´t completely disagree with your assesment as you yourself said it currently doesn´t have an really benefit however currently is crucial here.
    1. Fuel tanks, yes they currently have the same amout of fuel however they have at multiple times said fuel will be rebalanced for all ships with pyro and that probably won´t be the last time, it is highly likely that just as the 4000 fuel on the cutter standard were wrong the current capacity of the ramble is wrong an will increase or the very least will be more then the standard cutter if both are reduced.
    2. Armour and weapon racks aren´t really important currently but will be in the future and just throwing some armour in some boxes will probably be very tidious in the future in comparison to a dedicated rack which can hold it and which allows you to quickly switch what you are wearing.
The variants are ingame because their gameplay is very likely to come in the next year: Cargo refactor plus scanning update from SQ42 thats why they have sold it now.
    3. At least for the Rambler there is a small currently advantage which you quickly waved a side which are the extra seats. It can compared to the two people sitting in the Standard Cutter seat up to 4 people securly in seats which is a nice bonus for missions like jumptown since it reduced the chance of those people glitching out of the ship or getting knocked out. And the complaint about the fuel i find kind of silly to be honest since at 1900 fuel units it still has by far the most fuel of any starter and crucially even with the fasters drive is able to jump the longest distances which ALL other starters are not able. This is a crucial advantage the cutter has compared to all of them since it basically makes it one of the fastest QT ships ingame.

Yeah I agree with all this. I just think it goes against what they've stated previously about not releasing ships until their gamneplay is in the game, and that not making sure they added the one easy to add marketed feature that actually is in the game to the new ship before selling it is a very silly mistake to have made.

Totes agree that they shouldn't be in the game yet. You could have at least check IC though to see the already confirmed bug ticket for the fuel tank, this will be fixed sooner rather than later.
But I don't think they could have squeezed all the Ramblers functionality into the base's form factor to keep the cargo area larger. Toilets, seats, food machines will all eventually need to be used by AI, so ensuring walking space around them is crucial. This is also why none of the Cutters could have drop seats in the rear opposite the cargo grid.

You can just check erkul and see that they all have basically the same stats atm.
Also, the Cutter does have a "massive" fuel tank for a ship in its class (small starter). So, from that perspective, I think it's a great option. It definitely doesn't have the same tank it used to have, and both the new versions were given non functional add ons, so they're basically cosmetic variants for the moment... but I think players need to do their own research prior to buying any ship to understand what it can or can't do. There are plenty of ships without their actually stated functionality (i.e. all explorers, data runners, etc).

I own the rambler. Upgraded from the base model. The main agreement I have is the issue with fuel. That's ridiculous. BUT, I think you're dead wrong about the rambler on other fronts. Personally, I love the extra room and seating. I've used it to move org-mates into pvp locations where other ships just won't fit. And the fact that they don't have to worry about getting dropped on their butts every time I accelerate or decelerate is a big plus. You can bring 4 people in a rambler and they can all have safe travel. Can't do that with the other varients. Also, the extra weapon storage is nice if you (like I do) want some options depending on the mission. I know nothing about the scout other than that it will make putting an x-1 in there easier than with the base cutter. No more cargo, but having a little scout bike hidden inside will be useful. Not everything is about cargo space. There are more functionalities than just cargo room. I do agree, also, that they needed to have the balancing and roles more tuned before they launched them.

Ha! I agree completely! Good one RUclipsr pays attention to this. To me the original Cutter is the best one, as you can put more stuff in it (2 vs 4 SCU) or an STV, which you can’t do with the Rambler. The only ‘advantage’ the Rambler has over the original Cutter is a slightly larger weapon capacitor (but same fill rate). In the end I rather fly a Tana as my starter ship (upgraded) as it offers me much more (albeit at higher costs). I really don’t understand the lack of relevant variation between the three types. I mean, variations are far better done for the Reliants and Pisces variants for example. Why did they do this… why? Didn’t someone think of this? It’s more like they are slightly different skins… Cheers o7

It sure would be nice if CIG gave us some difference between the variants.
That being said, they haven’t addressed a lot of systems yet, including balancing quantum fuel travel distances, so it’s something yet to come.
I really appreciate keeping CIG honest, however it’s too early in development to complain about incomplete features like jump seats and armor racks when they haven’t built that functionality yet into the game.
