*To all the people who keep asking "will this work for my bird too", please have a look at the description or even just the title - YES, this method works for ALL BIRDS!* In fact, this way of gradually building trust is so universal that it would probably work on most ANIMALS, including humans. I went to a friend and breeder which held the budgie we would receive in his hands daily 2 days after hatching. She hates fingers but loves sitting on your shoulder, nibbling on everything. Drinking tea and following the mouse cursor on the monitor when it moves. The 2nd one was store bought and very scared if everyrhing but we tamed it by giving it freedom and space and basically just letting him copy the 1st birds behavior. He's still terrified of hands but does sit on you if the first budgie is also sitting on you and sometimes when he feels like it(the 1st budgie is very dominant) the 2nd one loves sitting near the window looking outside, nibbling on stuff and sleeping. Although he is terrified of hands he does fly into the cage on command and after a little bit of encouragement(IE very slowly stretching your arm in its direction until he flies off which usually means into the cage after hearing the comnand)
Thanks so much dude, my birds aren't as scared at me as before!! They still fly away a little bit, but I can see the improvements! At least they sit on my finger/arm now!
Leporello the Goldfinch - Birdtaming Tips & Tricks my budgie and me have what you can call... a mixed relation ship basically for some reason he is obsessed with my head (don’t ask me one day he suddenly flew on my head😂) he will get on my finger my shoulder when I’m lying down he’ll come and crawl on me and give me little kisses but I’ve noticed one thing he hates things going near his wings like he won’t let me pet him on his wings at all idk why my dad says he probably just don’t want me to go near his wings but I’m a little confused
you know what i dont have a bird :') edit: I got a bird now she's a budgie and she's very cute :] The video actually helped me with taming her a little bit so that's pretty pog!
My budgie was really scared of me (made the mistake of putting my hand in the cage when I first got it) until I started trying this a few days ago and he already seems a LOT more comfortable with my presence. He’s always relaxed around me and constantly stares at me. I’m still going to give it another week or two of using this method and I’ll edit how it goes :)
I'm going through this right now with a budgie that I rescued. We've got a long way to go. Some days he "seems" to be making good progress but then we take 2 steps back, somehow, so I'm slowing way down and we're sort of starting over. I can trek he's got a real sweet side to him but he's still really scared. I keep catching him starting at me, though, when I'm reading or on my computer. It's too cute because, he immediately looks the other way and pretends he wasn't staring, just like a human would do in some cases, LOL. I know he's just observing to see if I'm OK.
ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS I have seen on taming a frightened bird. I used to have a pet bullfinch and he was so sweet. Now I have problems with my pair of Parrotlets. I have many birds and they all got tame easily. But this pair is super frightened / terrified of me or anything new in the cage. I have them 3 months already and still no progress. I am going to try your method and let you know what happens. I don't need them hand tame, only not to be scared to death of me near them lol.
I've tried this method on a few birds and they all became tame, even the really scared ones. If you put in the effort and do it daily, it works without fail. It is by far the best bird taming method I've seen.
hi I've been waiting for an easy method like this I wrote this on a sticky note and now my parakeet/budgie is soo comftareble with me again after another budgie named mango...died RIP mango Thank you for helping me it means alot
It's pretty common for birds to pacify their fears by rushing to shoulders. Birdtricks is a great channel here on RUclips that has quite a few videos on "shoulder-rushers" and how to help your bird overcome the fears that make it run to your shoulder.
My pigeon doesn't like being touched and attackes our hands if we try to but will land on our heads and play with our hair or try to eat your ear. It can also just chill near your arm or sit on your foot / ear your foot ( I always put my shoes on for that reason)
Who ever dislikes these videos is very very ungreatful as you can see she is trying hard to post videos and she has to keep in time with the goldfinch i suggest you put a like or dont do anything
Leporello the Goldfinch - Birdtaming Tips & Tricks Iknow you commented this 4 months ago but i love your response, i remember freaking out when i got a dislike on my video but here you are joking about it haha. Respect!
The only time my bird listens to me,is when I say you want a cup of tea, want to spend my money,or east enders is coming on,or there’s a fight look out the window, might get a goldfinch instead
Hello, thank you for all your videos. I just got a goldfinch and already made the common mistakes you pointed out in other videos. I had to take him to the vet for nail trimming I am glad that was out of the way. Anyway, I’m learning as I go. As I have a cat my bird is in my bedroom and I’m practicing there. He is still scared of me. I play chamber music for him and whistle with him when he does the typical calling sounds. He is already eating and sitting on one leg and sort of relaxes around me. The comfort techniques and trust building are very helpful videos at this point. I had no idea he could respond to blinking and smacking lips. That was very awesome to see. However, as soon as I start moving closer he panics. Which I can understand after what he went through. I am debating whether or not I’m going to get him a female companion, because I don’t like to leave him alone there. He has a swing, food items to explore and play with so he does have his activities. I thought it was important to first make him comfortable around me and his new home, before I add another bird. I was wondering if this is a good way or should I get him a companion sooner? He is getting used to all his new room and a different setting, now inside. He was outside in a goldfinch cage, though well taken care of. It’s a big change for him and I want him to be happy. Thank you again and sorry for the long message. Your videos inspire and motivate me quite a bit. Take care greetings from Holland. Joey.
Hi Joey, thank you for your kind words. It's always nice to see people trying their best for their birds! Chamber music certainly helps a lot, it's incredible how well birds respond to music. Getting your goldfinch a companion is definitely a good idea. They are very social birds and they need 8+ hours of companionship every day (also at least 4-6 hours of free flight, but that's a different subject). So if you have your bird in your bedroom, where you presumably spend only an hour or two awake every day (and probably not during your goldfinch's peak activity hours), it is imperative that he get another creature of his kind to spend his life with. You have a point in letting your goldfinch settle in for a week or two, but I wouldn't wait too long to add a companion. Finches are notoriously territorial, and chances are your finch might behave aggressively to any bird you add later on. Hope this helps! Greetings from Austria.
Sounds exactly like my situation (only different kind of bird). I have male budgie and it took him 1 year from a pet store for him to now come to me and play with me. I've always left his cage open. I got him a female companion (who is well past the 30 day quarantine in a separate room) - but they still haven't met because she freaks out over anything. She is a rescue (about 1 yr old) but was picked on by another female budgie so she doesn't seem to like me either. I've gotten to the point where she does not freak when covering cage for the night, but she still has the panic attacks and darts violently back and forth at the slightest movement of a perch or my hand in her cage. I got a really nice new cage, but still am not sure how to get her to go in it as hers is all she has ever known. I even leave the cage door open and she only flew out one time and she did not fly well. Was running into walls, etc and it was quite traumatizing. I extended a rope perch from the current cage door to new cage, but day after day she just sits and seems to have no desire or curiosity to explore anything new. I sit in the next room not too far away with the door open and she can see and hear me playing with my male bird all day long. She chirps and all that and seems happy, but just does not seem to want to join in the fun. I even placed a playset with millet and other treats and toys just outside her cage just a few inches away and she will not go to it. When I got my first bird, I left his cage open all day (except at night for sleeping) and he naturally and gradually became more curious of me and my pen and laptop and those things that are now toys to him -- by the way, pretty much everything is a toy to him. He has turned into a good-natured, smart, curious little guy in only a 1 year and a few months with me -- I ended up working from home full time, so that really helped with bonding as I'm almost never gone. I got her for him to be with when I'm not home and maybe going back to work. However, it is not working as I had thought (or at least not as fast -- going on 2 months now since I got her). That is why I came here to get some advice. I will try sitting next to her all day at my office desk and see if that improves things. Maybe she doesn't like men? Not sure other than her old abusive playmate how she was treated at the other owner's house as I did not meet them - she was brought over by the rescue group. I may need a female "bird whisperer" to come and tame her :-) Good luck with your decision to get a companion. I do recommend it, but feel for me it was best to wait at least a year till he was comfortable with me and now I think he appreciates that I got another one and sings and chatters to her all day from across the room. It has improved my bond with him, I think. He does try to fly in there a lot, but cannot because I put a door screen so he cannot fly on top of her cage and intimidate her ... which he did a couple times. They will eventually meet, it will just take time and that is all I have. Patience for days! All the best ... --La
Ive had my bird for a little over a year and while i got him to eat out my hand a few times i know i did some things wrong (like my hand in the cage). I don’t know what to say but a few days in now and i can see him warming up to me finally not running away, chirping to get my attention. I hope to keep making progress. Thank you
I've had my budgies for over 7 years now. And when I first got them, Idk why but I never waited for them to 'get used to their surroundings". Because when you first bring them home, everything is scary to them. You want to start interacting the very first day so they see YOU as their safe place, rather than their cage that most let their bird 'get used' to in. If they see you as their safe spot, taming them is much much easier! And they aren't as attached to their cage.
I breed goldfinches and are impressed with what you have achieved and your promotion of Goldfinches as pets. I am going to try hand rearing now that i have seen what potential there is in our goldfinches.
Happy to be of service. If I may add, in my experience there is little to no benefit in painstakingly hand rearing goldfinches because they are naturally inquisitive anyway - in fact, I got Leporello when he was already six weeks old. On the other hand, hand rearing often results in practical defects later on - such as the bird's inability to husk larger seeds (a skill taught by goldfinch parents to their young and not learned otherwise). Just my two cents.
I had a diamond dove and she had to temporarily live in a small quarantine cage She would spend a lot of time on the ground but doves are always on the floor of the cage foraging, so of course I worried for the first two days but soon by day three she learned our Grove and our flow of routine and she became calm and at peace, as a dove should... Thank you so much for your video!!
One of the most misconceptions is that right when u get him keep the cage open, and that is wrong, and I learned that the hard way, I just got a bird and I left the cage open he flew into the curtains, I couldn’t reach, then he moved into another spot, where he bit and I got him back in his cage. You are so underrated
This is working for me after a week , my canary isn't bolting round the cage while I change food and water. I like your large cage, what is make and model please?
Just started today, I got somewhat close to them while sitting, sat there peacfully for 30 seconds, and then counted to 30. My birds didn't even go to their back bar like they do! I'll keep ya updated day by day. 12/14/18
Nice simplified video! I have 2 budgies, and I've already gained some trust with them (I can sometimes get them to step up on my finger). Will definitely use this method, thanks! 🖤
This is genuinely so helpful :D I've wanted budgies for years, and we finally got 3 last month. 2 of them used to be our friends' (They didn't really like the birds) and one of them was from the local pet store. They've been scared of me for quite some time, but I am certain that this method will work, thank you so much!
And another good video.. I just gave Gigi some cucumber.. he loved it. I didn't think he will but seeing Leporello eat it I had a try. Till now I know that Avocado is certainly a NO.. Nice day from sunny Malta ;-)
Hey, nice to hear from you again! :) Yes, cucumber is very good for goldfinches because of its minerals - especially during moulting season! Zucchini is good, too, though Gigi will likely only pick out the seeds (great for keeping a goldfinch busy though). Greetings from rainy Vienna! :)
Nice to see one of your videos again to.. :) Yes Goldfinches are birds that are always on the go and playing around. Will try Zucchini as well. Here in Malta it is hot.. summer is in full blast now. So when do you think he will moult, just before winter or now? And how many times a year do Goldfinches moult? And if you don't mind me asking what editing software do you use (I have a lot to learn)... Nice Day..
That's a good question! Most birds' moulting rhythm is strongly tied to daylight hours. In Central Europe, goldfinches moult once a year around August, September, though in Southern Europe it might be a bit later. My editing software is Magix Video Deluxe 2016, which sucks because it always crashes at the wrong time, haha. It's really easy to use but also rather limited.
Thank you!!my cockatiel was pacing around the cage and when I put millet In front of him he just stopped , put his head further away and stared at me for a minute before eating :)
I got a baby cockatiel. It's been 4 days. He's so cute and a bit shy. I'm happy that he slowly started to feel comfortable around us. At least he whistles and wakes me up in the mornings. Plus, he is a truly sleepyhead! :) He sleeps almost the whole day.
Hi there, sleeping all day is not a good sign in a bird, even in a young one. Sleeping during the day is ALWAYS a sign of illness in birds. Please take your cockatiel to the vet to get him checked out.
@@leporellothegoldfinch Thanks for the information :). We already took him to the vet. He's perfectly fine, and he is getting healthier, stronger day by day. I think i exaggerated a little bit, I'm sorry :] He doesn't sleep whole day of course :).
i did that and like before he was shaking and then i started to speak slower and he was so calm and he was looking at me so cute and moving his head so ill for sure do that every day thanks for the video! :)
I don't know why I'm watching this when I already have a really good friendship with my birds. They trust me completely so I have no reason to watch this.... Welp, it's still a bird video so I'll watch it anyway😁
To be honest in my opinion it just depends on its personality, when I got my bird I didn’t put her inside the cage I let her fly around for a while and she was actually happy then she was a bit calm and she was out for 1 hour after that I put her in her cage. *4 Months Later* When I call her name and I snap she flies to me she always wants to be around me. (I’m not hating I’m just saying my opinion now probably everybody is going to reply to me with hate.)
Those finch with red head and yellow bolt on the wings fly around my garden. I saw 6 together once but see them often. One of the nicest looking wild birds in uk.
Thank you. 😊 I’m happy to try this! He trusts me.... and will step up but ONLY times he wants up from the floor or an enclosed area. Then he flys away, back to his spot in my huge picture window. I’ll start this tomorrow.
@@Kat-du4db nooo you shouldn't wait for a week you should wait for 2 days only but don't start taming because they have to bond with you and gain your trust. If you tame them too early they might get scared and fly crazily and bite you.
Alyssa I wish I could answer with a more positive note but... my parakeet died about two weeks ago randomly, I’m not sure how it happened, if she was sick or not I loved her and cherished her until the end Rest In Peace, Paris
I have had my bird since December tenth of last year-she is a budgie, and I don’t know her exact age but she is very small. She has been scared of me and I have tried everything-definitely trying this tomorrow.
My bird was a demon he bit me everyday but know he’s the best pet ever he never bites and he always gives me kisses That’s how u gained his trust! 1- I took him to the vet to clip his wings because if u want to be with your pet without him running away 2- I keep her in my room when she’s out because she feels more safe in there sense Iam usually in my room , just keep them with you 3- when he bites Dont hurt him or shout or push him away it will make him even want to bite more sense he sees your reactions 4- take him out side even if it’s your backyard just take him out side if his wings are clipped he can’t fly but if it’s not clipped take him out in his cage 5- feed him in your hands like rewards if he comes out in his cage without biting give him some seeds and also make him try more fruits! Like bananas 6- when it’s time to take your bird to there cage before u go give her a kiss or clap your hands slowly so the bird knows u didn’t lock her up Bec u don’t like her 7- I don’t know if this works for all of the people but when mine was biting I usually took him to the fridge and he would just look and go up to the bananas to eat 8- the most important is when u give your pets a bath 9- let your birds to watch things you do like clean your room or make your bed it will help him know you more he will just watch you do stuff 10- again this one is optional but my bird loves watching RUclips or tv with me he would just calm down and chill I hope this helped becouse it helped me a lot me and my bird are best friends know we even watch anime together !
i dont really recommend clipping wings as birds are destined to fly using their wings and its pretty sad taking that away from them. Also it creates trauma to your bird
the reality is .its the same with people. if u can win the trust of a bird. then u can win my trust too. a little bird can teach u how to be social. u are beautiful, thanks for the nice video leporello subscribed and liked.
I live in a studio apartment so everything is in one relatively small room (except from the bathroom). I have a nice untamed lovebird for 2 weeks now. At first he was very scared with everything. I put his cage on a stand near a corner and covered 2 sides with a fleece blanket exactly like in the video. This is the second week and he still gets frightened when I get up in the morning (calmly) or when I get up from my desk. The only progress he has made is he's a bit more calm when I change his food and water. When I get close to his cage he flaps like crazy. I will try this method but I see very little hope with the suggested timing of the steps....
Hi there, it is important to note that you need to practise at least three times every single day for at least 5-10 minutes _each_ time. Anything less than that will have little or no effect with a scared bird. Please also note that lovebirds have an overwhelmingly strong inner need to be with another bird of their kind (hence the name). Lovebirds are a lot more well-adjusted and thus easier to tame when kept as a pair. Edit: Also it's important to get used to not making any rash movements. It takes some time for us humans to relearn our motions, but it's an absolute necessity if you keep birds. They really hate jerky movements, and getting up gingerly from your desk will help. If your bird panics in the morning when you get up, you might want to think about covering your bird's cage at night.
@@leporellothegoldfinch Thank you! Is that true? I've heard that when lovebirds are paired they care very little about bonding with people. I'm trying to make very very calm movements, I know birds have an inner instinct for flight on an unexpected motion. I tried to cover the cage once but he panicked so I removed the cover.
I realised I should have started taming a long time ago. It's been 2 weeks that I let him settle and now hes starting to form negative behaviour like nonstop contact calling of his old breeder flock. Hopefully my neighbours won't complain xD !
Hi George, lovebirds absolutely MUST have one of their own species. It is a myth that they don't bond with people if they have one of their own kind. In fact, they ONLY bond with people if there is a pair. A single lovebird is so unhappy, he cannot bond with anyone. He will call for his flockmates and wither until he dies.
Update: He is now with a cute young partner! And truly it seems much easier to tame them now. At the moment we have reached the milestone of eating from hand. Thanks alot for your tip
Windows, mirrors, vases and aquariums must be covered/veiled, toxic plants have to be removed (google all your plants to check whether they're poisonous), shelves and closets should not have a crack between them and the wall (a panicked bird can get stuck here), spray cans (deodorants, hair spray, air fresheners) must NOT be used around birds, same with non-stick (Teflon) pans and hair straighteners (their fumes are deadly to birds!), and definitely no smoking or cigarettes anywhere near the bird! Hope this helps :)
So... we only got our pair of budgies 3 days ago and one of them turned out to have a resporatory issue. I now have to catch him 2x a day to inject antibiotics for the next 10 days. Is it possible to afterwards recover from the mistrust that will inevitably result from it by starting from square 1 with this method? I don't want them scared but I also don't want them dead, obviously, so I have to put my hands in their cage, grab him and cause him unwanted stress :(.
Hi there, sorry to hear that! It happens. Please make sure you separate the healthy bird from the ill one if you haven't already. - And yes, you can recover from the mistrust, don't worry! Three things that help: 1) When you catch your bird and administer the medicine, wear some kind of mask or otherwise cover your face (birds recognise faces) and don't talk (otherwise they'll associate your voice with the fear). 2) Try to catch the ill bird in a darkened room, with a net - much less stressful than when they can see and when they are grabbed by a hand. 3) Start with the taming process AFTER the treatment is completed. That way your bird will see this as a new beginning and trust you more easily. Hope this helps - let us know how it goes!
@@leporellothegoldfinch We started wearing masks and not talking on day 2, hopefully it made them hate our faces less. Due to baby Joel no longer letting me prick him, we were forced to stop the course early. He had squirmed while I was injecting once and made it painful for himself and afterwards would start kicking and twitching, not letting me inject without a fear of accidental injury. Called the vet and she said to stop and monitor. Luckily it seemed to have worked already and baby Joel appears healthy. I reunited him with his friend Vinny and the two pals are happy and dancing together again. I have been taking things slow, currently feeding through the cage. The funny thing is... Joel is not at all afraid of being fed like this even with me quickly moving the millet around him and it seems that once he is comfortable enough to come out of the cage, he'll have no problem sitting on my hand to devour some millet like a BEAST xD Vinny on the other hand has been very hard to work with in comparison, running away from the food at first and waiting till Joel has gobbled it up to man up and come taste it. Vinny is also more reluctant to eat his veggies. Funny how after going through all that horror, Joel is the braver one.
Got a wild Indian Ringneck for about 5-6 months now. Whenever I go to change his food and drink, he keeps flapping about in his cage. Does it still work even after a long time?
Yes, it does! Please make sure to go at a slow pace; building trust takes time. There's a birdtaming playlist on this channel, which will help you understand your bird.
I'm taming two cockatiels at once. My female takes treats on hand and she also eats on it, but she freaks out if I get my hand too close without any food. It took my old male a whole year to make him eat and take treats from my hand. They love walking around my room together but only when I'm on my bed without my foot on the ground.
It takes time sometimes, but if it takes that long, you can try to troubleshoot your own (unconscious) behaviour. What do you do that your birds might/do not like? Move rashly? Put your hand in their cage? Train them longer than they are ready for, even though it makes them uncomfortable? It sounds as if you're making good progress, but you might likely be able to supercharge it if you find out what's nagging your birds.
Rationally speaking, anybody who thinks _this_ is complicated shouldn't keep birds. Birds require a certain understanding and generally take a lot more effort, patience and understanding than people commonly think. That's okay; they're simply not pets for everyone the way a cat or hamster would be.
Vukan birds are defo not for you at all, I have many birds from finches, budgies, lovebirds and macaws and believe me it takes a lot of time and patience, all birds have different personalities, some will tame fasters than others , my budgies are tame but my lovebirds are taking a lot of time and day to day attention to even get near them, its how it is, unless you can devote your time and i mean all of your time towards a bird then don't get one, i even have finches and they are proving hard to tame but still every day i try, its all a matter of time and a lot of patience
I fed all my birds, they trusted me (on my shoulders, on my head, fingers, etc), they still eat from my hand but they don't want to go out the cage anymore. When they grown up, suddenly "learned" from the parents that somehow I'm dangerous for them. Now my birds don't trust me anymore, they only eat from my hand, but they never goes outside the cage... I will try this with my five birds... I'll let you know any progress, thanks.
I'm getting 2 budgies after the summer holiday. I have done a ton of research and thinking about what toys, food, and cage they should get. I have seen a fairly big cage for them and i am very exitced!
I’ve just gotten an ex-racing pigeon and although he’s not totally terrified, he’s definitely a bit scared of me and I’d love for him to be properly tame someday! 💜
I'm watching this because I had 2 budgies over a decade ago as a teen, suddenly becoming friendly out of nowhere. They would panic when I got close, but then were all chill weeks later. I noticed this when they looked at me different and got closer than before, and one got on my finger when I presented it. Guess I, unaware of my actions did something right.
Does this work with a pair of Zebras? I've had them for over a month and they still panic when I walk by or of course when I have to change their food/water/bath etc. The male is more scared but the female seems calm sometimes.
Honestly I’ve tried bonding with my bird for three years and he doesn’t like me. I’ve tried a lot of methods and only relies on me for food and water. When I put my hand in his cage he gets defensive so it makes cleaning it a hassle sometimes. But I still love him.
I really hope this works for me, I have hope. I made many mistakes when I first got my birds and I now know I shouldn’t have gotten them in the first place. It hurts so much when I’m trying to change their food or water and they panic. I’m going to try this though because I really do love them a lot and I want them to feel safe.
I hope this works out for me. I'm excited to see all the positive responses of people who find it really does work for their birds. So fingers crossed I haven't already scared my bird too much to gain his trust... (By that I just mean because I have to change his food and water and clean the trays at the bottom of his cage, and he really freaked out... I feel so bad 😢)
Sadly, my sister and I both got a bird each and my sisters bird killed my bird and my other bird that I got after, I had such a strong connection with my birds and I never payed attention to my sisters bird because he doesn’t trust me or my sister and I feel bad now because he’s looks very scared and I am hoping I can build a good relationship with him too. ❤️
Thank you. My birds just had babies and we held them when they were just born and now since they can fly they won’t com near us unless I have their breakfast or dinner. When it’s time for them to go to bed it is a pain to get the babies in the cage.
Very helpful advice! Thank you so much for your videos. I am looking forward to see much more! Leporello is adorable. My Niffler (canary/goldfinch mule) is crazy about cucumber and apple, also likes salad. I also tried banana, tomato and strawberry but no interest there. As for the getting him to step up ...no chance. He would eat from the small pot in my hand but never from my hand directly....
Hi there, thanks, my pleasure! Yes, banana, tomato and strawberry aren't very popular, I wonder why - perhaps it's the consistence? I've found that birds which are accustomed to wet egg food will eat other soft foods as well... but it's quite a process to get them to try new things. - I've got another video planned for the not-so-far future in which I'm going to show how to teach a bird how to get used to your hand and to step up, so stay tuned :)
*To all the people who keep asking "will this work for my bird too", please have a look at the description or even just the title - YES, this method works for ALL BIRDS!* In fact, this way of gradually building trust is so universal that it would probably work on most ANIMALS, including humans. Leporello the Goldfinch - Birdtaming Tips & Tricks How about opening the cage and having it jump on your finger?
LMFAO

Hi ameer, sounds great! Congrats on the good progress, well done :)
I know he's just observing to see if I'm OK.
instructions unclear, I'm now in the cage.
At least you've got your phone. Could always be worse!

I don't need them hand tame, only not to be scared to death of me near them lol.
did it work?
How did it go? I had parrotlets and they are very hard headed. It may take a little extra time but i am sure you will get it. :)
Are they take now?
Tame*
I've tried this method on a few birds and they all became tame, even the really scared ones. If you put in the effort and do it daily, it works without fail. It is by far the best bird taming method I've seen.
my birds are so scared of humans so I counted 1-90 everyday 3x aday. It’s working!
Well done, keep up the great work! :)

I've got a strange relationship with two of my cockatiels, where they don't really like my hands but are completely fine sitting on my shoulder.
That's perfectly normal. Your shoulder doesn't move like a predator, but hands do.
Same 😂
It's pretty common for birds to pacify their fears by rushing to shoulders.

Happy to hear that, well done you! :D Feel free to look around on this channel and if you have any questions, just ask! :)
Leporello the Goldfinch - Birdtaming Tips & Tricks thank you very much:) I will look into it soon, take care.
Thank you
That sounds like good progress, well done! Let us know how it goes :)
I'm getting birds tommorow and I'm super excited just watching alot of bird videos to get tips and to learn about birds
Nice! Well done for doing research beforehand :)
I had a diamond dove and she had to temporarily live in a small quarantine cage
She would spend a lot of time on the ground but doves are always on the floor of the cage foraging, so of course I worried for the first two days but soon by day three she learned our Grove and our flow of routine and she became calm and at peace, as a dove should... Thank you so much for your video!!
My pleasure, hope your diamond dove feels better now! :)
Finally, a video that explains exactly what I I needed! Thank you soooo much! 😍😍😍😍🐥🐥🐥
One of the most misconceptions is that right when u get him keep the cage open, and that is wrong, and I learned that the hard way, I just got a bird and I left the cage open he flew into the curtains, I couldn’t reach, then he moved into another spot, where he bit and I got him back in his cage. You are so underrated
the cage open idea is for cage bound birds

Yes Goldfinches are birds that are always on the go and playing around.

Awesome! Best of luck, let us know how it goes :)
My bird was a demon he bit me everyday but know he’s the best pet ever he never bites and he always gives me kisses That’s how u gained his trust!
1- I took him to the vet to clip his wings because if u want to be with your pet without him running away
2- I keep her in my room when she’s out because she feels more safe in there sense Iam usually in my room , just keep them with you
3- when he bites Dont hurt him or shout or push him away it will make him even want to bite more sense he sees your reactions
4- take him out side even if it’s your backyard just take him out side if his wings are clipped he can’t fly but if it’s not clipped take him out in his cage
5- feed him in your hands like rewards if he comes out in his cage without biting give him some seeds and also make him try more fruits! Like bananas
6- when it’s time to take your bird to there cage before u go give her a kiss or clap your hands slowly so the bird knows u didn’t lock her up Bec u don’t like her
7- I don’t know if this works for all of the people but when mine was biting I usually took him to the fridge and he would just look and go up to the bananas to eat
8- the most important is when u give your pets a bath
9- let your birds to watch things you do like clean your room or make your bed it will help him know you more he will just watch you do stuff
10- again this one is optional but my bird loves watching RUclips or tv with me he would just calm down and chill
I hope this helped becouse it helped me a lot me and my bird are best friends know we even watch anime together !
i dont really recommend clipping wings as birds are destined to fly using their wings and its pretty sad taking that away from them. Also it creates trauma to your bird
the reality is .its the same with people. if u can win the trust of a bird. then u can win my trust too. a little bird can teach u how to be social. u are beautiful, thanks for the nice video leporello subscribed and liked.
Thank you for your kind words, Cinderella! Welcome to the community.
Will this work on birds of prey (asking for a friend)
Yes it should work on all birds
What are some dangerous objects in rooms that you should get ride of? I'm scared my bird will get hurt :c
Thank you so much!!
Alexis Linkert you should never put fan's or a.c. and heaters

You bet! :)
So... we only got our pair of budgies 3 days ago and one of them turned out to have a resporatory issue.
Three things that help:
1) When you catch your bird and administer the medicine, wear some kind of mask or otherwise cover your face (birds recognise faces) and don't talk (otherwise they'll associate your voice with the fear).
Joel is not at all afraid of being fed like this even with me quickly moving the millet around him and it seems that once he is comfortable enough to come out of the cage, he'll have no problem sitting on my hand to devour some millet like a BEAST xD
Vinny on the other hand has been very hard to work with in comparison, running away from the food at first and waiting till Joel has gobbled it up to man up and come taste it. Vinny is also more reluctant to eat his veggies. Funny how after going through all that horror, Joel is the braver one.
My bird makes love to my teddy bear every time I take him out of the cage.
My parakeets just wish I was dead 😂
If my budgies would wish that too I would be like ouch
Where did u get the table that the bird is on from?
You are so beautifull.. i just buy a canary, hope he'll get used to me
I'm taming two cockatiels at once.
I like birbs
You clearly have excellent taste.
@@leporellothegoldfinch lol! Thanks :)
Funktioniert das auch für Zebrafinken?
Im scared of my bird
It bites meh lol
Can I please ask. How do we clean the cage without putting hand in the cage when the bird is new ? Been watching your videos for years .amazing !!
More like complicated method
Rationally speaking, anybody who thinks _this_ is complicated shouldn't keep birds. Birds require a certain understanding and generally take a lot more effort, patience and understanding than people commonly think. That's okay; they're simply not pets for everyone the way a cat or hamster would be.
You’ve got years to spend with the bird. What’s a few days or weeks compared to that?
+Avocado Cake You got it.
It worked after a couple of weeks I have my budgie out side the cage and chilling with me
I'm getting 2 budgies after the summer holiday. I have done a ton of research and thinking about what toys, food, and cage they should get. I have seen a fairly big cage for them and i am very exitced!
Sounds awesome - preparation is everything, so well done you! :)
Intuition is a good guideline when dealing with birds!
Thank you so much, im getting a cockatiel, and i WILL do this!😊
Thanks so much for the advice!
Your bird is adorable!!! 😌 I really hope this works!! I’m sure it will
Does this work with a pair of Zebras? I've had them for over a month and they still panic when I walk by or of course when I have to change their food/water/bath etc. The male is more scared but the female seems calm sometimes.
thats such a beautiful birdie!!
Honestly I’ve tried bonding with my bird for three years and he doesn’t like me. I’ve tried a lot of methods and only relies on me for food and water. When I put my hand in his cage he gets defensive so it makes cleaning it a hassle sometimes. But I still love him.
So could I be right in assuming that most of your advice would apply to canaries too?
Yes, you're right! :)
I really hope this works for me, I have hope. I made many mistakes when I first got my birds and I now know I shouldn’t have gotten them in the first place. It hurts so much when I’m trying to change their food or water and they panic. I’m going to try this though because I really do love them a lot and I want them to feel safe.
Sorry, but van i have a question? Is there any change? Are they're still scared of you? I have the same situation
Yoshi is a conure, and everyone replying is talking about budgies and such, but if it works it works! So.... Here's to hoping!
I lose my lovebirds trust what should I do now. Can I do tame with my lovebirds now.
I got a cockatiel a few days ago he is kinda scared of me
He is a Lutino cockatiel and this really helped me.. Thanks
I'm excited to try this method:)
Btw I subscribed.
Welcome!
It is working on my budgie thank you very much 👍
- I've got another video planned for the not-so-far future in which I'm going to show how to teach a bird how to get used to your hand and to step up, so stay tuned :)
i rescued a canary and he has been with me around 3 months,do you rhink i need a second one to be his friend?he is not tame
Yes definitely, get him a friend!
