Wonderful - thanks for making this particular comparison, it was really great to get an experienced comparison. At 6’1”, those pegs may turn out to be a bit too much for me.🤔 One thing that always concerns me when I think of switching from the R1250R to the S1000R is the comparative lack of torque with the S1000’s 4-cylinder…any concerns in that department when just riding ordinary roads in town and country? Do you find yourself missing it on the S1000R? Does it get tiresome to have to wind it out to feel that same torque you get immediately with the 1250, or is it more quickly progressive in actual feel (if not dyna stats)?
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it 😊. 6’1”, you might feel a little scrunched on the SKR. I don’t find ANY lack of torque on the 1000. Nothing is tiresome with this bike, it’s thrilling to me, while being incredibly smooth and refined. Worth every penny. Have you thought about the XR? I think it’s the same engine?? Yet taller.
@@AmenCornerRider No, not looking for a sports tourer…I love my R1250R, but just sometimes wonder if something a bit more sporty (but not aggressively sporty ergos like the RR) might be a bit more fun. More often, though, the intoxicating torque and comfortable ergos of the 1250 nixes my wandering eye. Thanks again for the comparison…very interesting and gives me food for thought.
I am a pensioner and have been riding bikes for years and have a R1250R. Depends what you want. On the road a R1250R will keep pace with all sports bikes, not to mention superb low down torque, and from experience will be more enjoyable and comfortable to ride than a sports bike (had a suzuki GSR750 once). However sports bike have the advantage at higher speeds, such as the track. Depends what you want really. For me I like to ride my bike on the road,
I am on the contrary switching from S1000R to R1250R. Loved every single minute on S1K but had to let it go and get something with more comfort, luggage space, better on fuel, low chain maintenance, cleaner back end, lower insurance and more time to enjoy the scenery. Found myself always wanting to rev the engine to listen to the beautiful sound of the high revs but then I risked losing my license. Didn't really have to use quick shifter 99% of the time in 2/3 gear. I go on long trips a lot so it makes sense for the switch. I like your tinted screen on you 1250, would you recommend and advise what screen is it please?

Thanks for the video. I just turned 40 and am looking to upgrade from my F800R. Thinking the S1000 for a few years before I settle into an R bike when I have more time for long distance riding. Would you say the S1000 is ok for day rides? Say 3-400 miles on occasion? Does the small fly screen you got for the S1000 make any noticeable difference?
I love the S1000r. Having said that, at 65 years young, I am way more comfortable on my R1250 R. The S1000 is great for shorter rides for me and I always take the 1250 on longer rides. The seat is a bit hard on the S1000 and the body position is more aggressive. My hands and wrists do bother me on longer rides, but again, I am older 😎. The 1250 is a great all around bike. The S1000 is a thrill. Hope this helps. Oh, the fly screen helps a little, mostly got it to protect my TFT screen.

Hey amen corner rider, I am intrigued that you sold these bikes and then went to the M1 R and now the MTO9 9SP. I’m really curious to hear you reflect on your experiences not considering Price. True, with that flat parallel boxer engine, it signals old technology. But truly, what is your honest opinion between that R1250 R and the M1000 R? Thanks so much for all you do!
Hey there, thanks for a great question. My honest opinion.... they are BOTH such great bikes! If I were rich, I would have BOTH of these bikes in my garage. (retired P.E. teacher...not rich 😅). The R1250r is comfortable, multi-purpose, unique bike. The M1000r was my all time favorite bike and if I was a much younger person it would still be in my garage. The engines are so different with these two bikes, but the M was a thrill to ride, it's so perfect! There is no doubt I will have another BMW down the road, (maybe soon 😁). The Yamaha is ticking all the right boxes for now, I love it.
How was the V stream windscreen on the 1250r? I see you've sold the bike but still curious to hear what you thought of it. Any and all info you can share on the windscreen would be appreciated. I'm same height as you and I'm wanting a screen to give me some relief on longer rides. Any unusual wind buffeting? Did you still have good air flow on hot days? Thank you for sharing!
