everyone asks him about the sex scenes and never about the devastating therapy scene where he opens up about depression....that show was so amazing and Paul Mescal did an amazing job in the show and people should talk more about the acting and story rather than the sex scenes
this
yes!
Absolutely! That scene broke my heart - he was incredible. For me, one of the best scenes in show full of incredible scenes.
I have just watched the trailer and I'm already depressed! I'm not suprised. And I'm not watching this crap bc its a tired plotline and I'm tired of ''tortured love stories from the UK". Enough is enough. Ooohhhh, social class....kmn
@@andrabook8758 It is not from the UK. It is set in Ireland.
I love how hearing Colbert saying "I'm a 100% Irish" makes Mescal inwardly cringe as all Irish do when we Americans say that hahaha
Yeah >< The nods are one thing, but coming out with “I’m 100% Irish” hmm :s
I found it hilarious how the number of "Irish" people in America so completely outnumbers and dwarfs the total population of Irish people in Ireland.😂
Americans are fun
Haha yeah the Irish have a name for that - Plastic Paddies 🤣
@@utubby3730 ь
Reminded me of when Jacksepticeye said he hates when Americans say they’re Irish and Jack just cringes every time😂
Never thought a tv series would change my life. This definitely has.
How very sad
The "love" scenes were so real, lik they didnt just roll the camera away and the way the whole show has got this calm real life vibe to it
Normal People was the best show of 2020. Outstanding!
Binged Normal People at least 4 times. Honestly a really great series. Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar Jones are fantastic
I never want to see this late show in it's old format again. Stephen is better like ever before.
Hi I'm that guy. You mean better than ever before
@@Pauly421 Fuck, true, thanks man
But it's eventually going to go back.
Stephen is so unhinged these days I love it
haha he's so much fun off-script
😂😂😂
This (very) particular 'Dry January' is certainly spicing up his noun and adjectives choices ;)
Unprecedented times we live in. No time to be a stuffed shirt.
Unhinged.🙄 What being funny?
love Paul Mescal and Normal People is so moving and authentic as well as risque. Def check it out if you haven't seen it!
A really fantastic show indeed!
never has a show made me feel this type of way, I felt an internal pain and this feeling in my stomach I have never felt before.
Try fleabag
“Pale Irish flesh” LMAOOOO
I love him and the show so much. Please watch if you haven’t!
It's brilliant eh! The book is awesome too!
Yes love the show.
Normal people was the best of the best, especially during quarantine!!! The actors were amazing, the way they acted to everything from therapy moments to the sex scenes
Most Sligo thing in the world. Have an international hit show filmed there and before it can benefit from tourists coming to visit, the world goes into lockdown. Typical.
Didn't hear about that. Poor Sligo lol
Good lord he's handsome. Paul Mescal, putting that name in my back pocket lol
🤤 Hes just 🔥
In Ireland he would be kind of above average?! I don’t understand why people think he’s hot
He’s pleasant looking but yeah, a somewhat typical looking 20-something Irish guy. His eyes are lovely.
Lol I feel so uncultured.🤭
@@candaceh4236 ha, no, it’s just that his look and face is super typically Irish. If I saw a guy like him walking down a street in New York I would immediately know he was Irish. Big Irish head on him 😂
it’s that sort of thing where he could be your cousin, or a guy you went to school with, or a lad behind a counter in the local shop. A nice looking Everyman.
"Nobody's ever asked me to do a nude scene."
Not even in your DM's? Lie.
Normal People is legit one of the best shows of 2020. The folks behind the show made it just as good as the book.
Loved the series! And he is so cute and sweet and of course the Irish accent! Hard to believe he played those intimate scenes when you see him blushing here.
So sad that series, yet so beautiful to watch!
You inspired me in so many ways, so thank you for that, or wait, it is the other way around!
He doesn't look at all like the actor we see in the movie. Amazing.
“Boom Operator” sounds like a great song title ... at 5:24
There's a Flight of the Conchords song called "Boom". 👍
Weird Al should make a parody of “smooth operator” but about the boom operator watching actors sex scenes.
Coming late to this but just binged for two days and such an incredible show.
This is mad seeing Paul Mescal on Stephen Colbert
I will never get over this book and show.
Omg! I can’t believe he’s been in my town this whole time!! 😳 it’s adorable when he blushes 😊 and love his haircut
The most romantic movie I have ever seen ... A wonderful love story of two young people ... Wonderful (!!!!!!) roles by actors Paul and Daisy ...Perfect cast in the movie ! Beautiful shots and music ... I don't understand journalists constantly asking about shooting love scenes - these scenes are very subtle and delicate in relation to the situation in the story ... and beautifully filmed ...
I love Paul and Daisy how flawlessly they played in this movie ... For me, Paul and Daisy ARE ALREADY A HISTORICAL LOVE COUPLE like famous Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler !!!!! They are a couple of lovers FOREVER 😇 In these difficult times, this film is the most precious PEARL we have received… A masterpiece ! Greetings from PL 😇😘💝☂
I have not seen this show and I have no idea who this actor is, but he is so cute when he blushes.
Love his Irish accent but I’m a sucker for that lovely lilt. 🍀☘️
I love him AND Regé's families both made multiple cups of tea during the sex scenes. And they're from separate shows😂
Wow! An interview that had nothing to do with the U.S. as well as with a fine actor from an excellent program. Thank you!
This show is SO intense and moving
Normal people is fantastic, a legit experience, definetly check it out
absolutely loved the show ♡♡♡
He's ridiculously handsome.
P.s. But I miss the silver chain!!!
He’s beautiful and endearing 😊
Haven’t checked out Normal People yet. Paul is super cute and seems really sweet though. I’ll have to check it out
Highly recommend it!!
It's very good
Wait for the sex scenes, necklace and GAA shirt!
Watch it!!!
You wont be disappointed
Stephen Colbert said "f***" 😂 love him more and more
He is a great actor and has so much potential going forward.
Ame está serie!!Lo más hermoso que vi en los últimos tiempos, juro que lloré con algunas escenas!!PORFIS TRADUCCIÓN AL ESPAÑOL!!!!!
They called me dear prudence in highschool. I have never done it in the middle of the road. I did do it once in a cemetery in Honolulu 2015...with Harrold...I'm over 18 and under 60.
I love this show so much. The book is incredible too. If anyone wants to watch it I’d really recommend taking a few days to read the book first and get to know the characters! I think it made the show that much more powerful
the emerald isle produces many superstars: musicians, actors etc
stay safe, stay strong everyone !
does it produce any which are not featuring in tortured love stories? bc if so, kindle recommend.
If not, and assuming any Irish person reads this...I'm not trying to pick on you but it's getting old. Branch out and go outside the UK, or just getting some mental fortitude going, bc your UK political situation and possibly the whole Catholic creepy priests thing, has messed you up on the inside and its causing you to make really stupid repetitive movies. I'm tired of pretending its ok. Its not ok. If you need therapy, GO to therapy, but please stop trying to convince everyone that its hot to have disfunctional relationships. It ain't. THAT's why everyone is DEPRESSED. Get a clue.
@@andrabook8758 Sure. In terms of recommendations outside the genre of tortured Irishman take a look at Colin Farrell in Tigerland, Swat, The Recruit, Minority Report, Phone Booth, American Outlaw,
Liam Neeson in Excalibur, Schindler’s List, The Mission, Star Wars Episode 1-The Phantom Menace. Domhnall Gleeson in Star Wars sequel series, Ex Machina, The Revenent. Gabriel Byrne in Millers Crossing, Excalibur, The Usual Suspects, End of Days. Cillian Murphy in Intermission, Red Eye, Breakfast on Pluto. Jamie Dornan in Siege of Jadotville. Michael Fassbender in Prometheus, X Men series, 12 years a slave, Shame,300, The Counsellor. Pierce Brosnan in 4 Bond movies, Thomas Crown Affair, Mrs Doubtfire. Also recommend looking up Richard Harris, Peter O’Toole, Colm Meaney, Jonathon Rhys Meyers etc.
@@richardrice8372 ...recent...new...come on. And Ferrell...no way he's done WAY too many of the other ones
@Andra Book Maybe u'll @ me with this one as well, but try nicola coughlan starring Derry girls.
@@koushikisaha5197 haven't heard of that one, will google :D
To Paul, from all the people of Irish ancestry who live in Sydney, you are definitely not alone.
He is waaaay too adorable for words!!!!
never heard of normal people (series or book), but seeing this actor for this first time in this interview, made me watch the whole series in 2 days...
thanks stephen colbert, so glad i stumbled upon the beautiful show...i could watch marianne and connel exchange glances in wistful songs for days
I always had the name Mescal in my head with stress like in the drink...
My man Paul sat here looking like he’s just won the masters! ⛳️ Seems like a bloke you could just sit and have a few pints with - he deserves every single bit of success he gets, Normal People was just magic. He and Daisy were an absolutely perfect representation of Connell and Marianne 🇮🇪
To think this entire time I thought it was just some usual European show with intense sex scenes but the show was just amazing. Really great acting and story. Anyway back in the closet I go...
Okay where can I watch it if I don't have Hulu?!
Paul Mescal..... beautiful young Irish man. I'm from the next county, & delighted for his success. The book was ok, interesting in writing about sex in a supposedly post-catholic Ireland, but otherwise it was underwhelming. The scandals& nasty treatment of unmarried mothers & their babies: many who ended up in mass graves, is in the news at the minute as priests nuns apologise - but only because they can't bury these scandals/crimes. Ok that took a dark turn there, but my heart breaks for what women and babies endured. Stephen Colbert is a great man too and I really appreciate his wit and compassion too.
lol
"Normal People" great show
I definitely didn't know about this show and it's that popular? How has no one told me about it?
An Irishman goes to Australia, he'd _better_ wear sunblock.
An Irishman from Galway went to Australia, met my daughter, and is now a great Father of 3 fantastic kids and a really good man. He wears sunblock and swims on Christday regardless of the weather.
Cara That’s true, colour dose not protect you from sunburn. Just goes to prove that we’re all the same
@Cara Salusc "Everyone should wear sunscreen.. especially black people."
Well, not necessarily. One who has gotten a tan is not in danger of burning, and people with naturally higher melanin counts tend to tan more easily.
But, you're right, even black people can be vulnerable to sunburn if they don't maintain a tan.
And it's fortunate that Australia is one of those places where the conditions for maintaining a tan are perennial. In Australia, if you can _get_ a tan, you can _keep_ the tan. The conditions for lying out in the Sun exist year round.
Getting the tan in the _first_ place can be a _challenge,_ though. I've met a few Irish people who were borderline albinos. They would burn, the burn would subside, and then they would be pale again. Their skin just _could not_ seem to grasp the concept of melanin.
Now this would not pose a _problem_ for them as long as they remained in _Ireland,_ but if such a person travels to _Australia,_ they are inevitably well advised to wear sunblock every time they go outside.
If Stephen thought that was raunchy, he should watch Bridgerton ;-). Seriously, though I loved Normal People (and Paul Mescal in it), and I wish someone would ask him about more than the sex scenes. His character was very complex, and I'd love to hear more about his preparation for that
By having it risqué the makers knew more people would watch it.
I haven't seen normal people and don't get Hulu, thanks Stephen.
clicked to see if there would be a sneak peek of connell's chain
Marianne stole it. See the Red Nose Day clip of the Hot Priest confessional. Brilliant!
Oh, my surfshark is going to get a work out on the BBC.
He was great in the Phoebe Bridgers video
he was wonderful on Normal People
Claiming him 💚💚💚
It’s a six cuppa tea series 😂
I want a weird al parody highlighting the awkwardness of shooting sex scenes called “Boom Operator” to Sade’s Smooth Operator.

Paul mescall is just beautiful but whys noone talk about niall from the show hes adorable too 😍
I think I might be the only person in Ireland who hasn’t seen this show
He freakin' adorable. Period. 😍💗😏
EPIC
It's Mescal like Mezz cal like the Mezz
Paul, I really like your drink (tbh, I didn’t search comments to see exactly how unoriginal this was).
A little tip for anyone visiting Ireland, they really love it when you say to them "top o' the mornin' to ye".
I get the feeling that you're not being 100% honest.
He is VERY attractive. Don’t tell my husband I said that. 😳 😂
Raunchy, riskay? No. These scenes were intimate and beautiful. And besides, he’s done amazing acting besides the sex scenes that deserve more attention.
@@bingonamo7520 When did they make it out to be that all women have an orgasm without their clitorises being touched? I can orgasm by being penetrated alone, many other women can too, and apparently the character in the show does as well. Because some women don’t doesn’t make this unrealistic.
@@bingonamo7520 When or how does this show claim that ALL women can orgasm by just being penetrated, again?
@@bingonamo7520 You said “They were unrealistic as all TV and film makes out that ALL women have an orgasm without their clitoris being touched” which they don’t.
Let's hope that people who watch the show will take away an example of healthy behavior. Most sensitively portrayed on-screen intimacy.

I don't understand when Americans say "I'm 100% Irish" or "I'm Italian, you know..." :/
Because we are a nation of immigrants, either by choice or by force.
I believe Conan O'Brien when he says his Irish family married Irish all the way back
@@lieselemay Either way, you are Americans. I also was born in a "nation of immigrants" and I have never seen another national saying "I'm Japanese". We say "I'm Brazilian" and that's it!
Even as an American it is so cringey...while I do love Stephen, he is not the best when interviewing Irish guests. He always asks them about being Irish, instead of the work they are promoting.
I think it's bc most Americans are really proud of our heritage, if you think about it, our country isn't that old compared to where our ancestors came from. It's not an insult at all, we are genuinely proud. 😁💜
Wow. Actually first. Weird

Yeah huge over the world ... that's why I NEVER HEARD OF IT ! Please , Americans ... STOP being self centric and saying something is huge without facts to back it ...
I believe it was viewed over 70 million times in the UK alone. So..
Just because you’ve never heard of it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a worldwide hit. It’s a British/Irish production, with American backing. It was a huge hit in the UK and Ireland, breaking viewing and streaming records. It was also a huge hit in the US, Canada and Australia. It has now been sold to over 20 broadcasters worldwide. Due to its graphic sexual content it will obviously not be bought for countries where there are strict censorship rules. It has been shown in most European countries including Russia, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand and Japan. So this is not a case of the US being self-centric but rather latching on to an Irish world-wide phenomenon.
I mean the guy mentions being recognised on the other side of the world. Generally when you are just starting out that doesn’t tend to happen unless you are in a big hit.
Despite America often being self centric, you picked a bad time to bitch at them for it.
Definitely more self-centric to say, "I'VE never heard of it, so it can't be popular!"
