A guy in my academy does it and believe me its effective against all levels of player.
Beginner/Intermediate players almost fall and their rhythm is completely destroyed.
(But just like any sort of deception, don't overuse it or they will get used to it).

Ha ha - I remember the first time I was tricked by this, I couldn't work out why my feet were stuck to the floor! Thankfully the chap explained how he was doing it, his name was Lee Jae Bok 🙂

Aloha Coach Thomas, awesome deceptions. Selling the fake drop and smash to opponents can be set up by executing repeated successful drops and smashes first. Disguising the clear by imitating those shots should completely frustrate opponents and keep them guessing. Thanks, using these deceptions sparingly will make them all the more surprising to opponents. Wow what an incredible set of deceptions to have in your tool box of shots. Real winners. You are the best, Coach Thomas. Take care.

I sometimes do this by jumping up and then only hitting the clear when my feet land on the floor again... sort of like to throw the opponent off their timing, because they would be expecting me to hit something at the apex of my jump.
