  • Great Horned Owlet Re-nesting.
This time of year kicks off re-nesting season! Many of our favorite bird species will be tending to their offspring and sometimes nests are not suitable for some of the rapid growing babies. This story is typical of our Great Horned Owl species who do not build their own nests, but rather take on old nests of other birds, crooks in trees, or tops of dead standing trees.
Often the young will fall to the ground for various reasons. This baby owlet was the only survivor of this nesting pair and when the youngster fell, Mom was tending to the baby on the ground. Finders called in our team to help fix this dangerous situation and the youngster was put back up in a man-made nest platform so the parents could resume proper care.
APCH has been successfully re-nesting birds of prey since 2005 and this is the first video footage of the actual re-union and care of the owlet after our team finished the project thanks to a mounted trail cam that was retrieved the next day.
Enjoy! and remember, Birds are BEST raised by Birds.
