An interesting fact about the paint tube treasures, they actually reflect the 9 types of pikmin in the game. And the further back a type was introduced, the more of the tube of paint is used up. So the red paint (red pikmin) is almost empty, the green paint (glow pikmin) is completely full.
That is extremely cool.

If not for the Illumination Goo being after the Decorative Goo for whatever reason.
The names of the paint tubes also seem to reflect the color of paint or the type of Pikmin it represents

Another fun fact: Louie's cooking comments in the enemy catalog are ripped straight from Pikmin 2. I immediately went straight to the Mamuta to confirm that as it's an iconic comment from that game.
Dude, I know Louie is supposed to be heartless but some of his cooking comments got me like 🤤. Plus he at least seems to somewhat care about his nana. He can’t be all bad? 😬

The playing cards in the game all have different attributes in their treasure names, but the three used to learn the code to the safe in Hero’s Hideaway are specifically the cards of power, wisdom, and courage.
That is such a nice reference.

Another fun fact: Oatchi narrows their eyes like moss when near an enemy. Moss is considered an enemy.

5:05 It's worth noting that the specific game chosen and the location it is found in are a reference to the creature itself. The wave race disk comes from the waterwraith, which could be described as a racing wave of water. Also in the arena is Purple Paint, in reference to how Purple Pikmin are used to defeat the Waterwraith.

I never even noticed that until now! this game's attention to details is insane!
Most of the paints are in the same cave you find each Pikmin type, or at least the earliest cave you can find each. The amount of paint in each tube actually correlates to how long each type has been known about, with reds, yellows, and blues having nearly empty tubes, and ice and glows having nearly full tubes, with ice having slightly less in reference to them being announced earlier than glows.
I think every paint tube is found in the same cave you can first find each pikmin in, except for red and green of course
i'm honestly sad the game disc wasn't pikmin 2. a nod to the waterwraith, and Castle, origins.
The title screen easter egg only appears after unlocking the Hero's Hideaway

Not gonna lie, when I first realized that the Mechanical Harp (Windmill Song) played the Song of Storms, I listened to it for like 10 whole minutes in the treasure hoard.

It's what they sing when there's no treasures on the sublevel/area
2:28 I thought it was interesting to note that when you get the lullaby mechanical harp, the creature it's hidden in is a bulborb seemingly randomly hiding in some plants. In hindsight, that might've been a further nod to it being a reference to piranha plants
this could easily work for memory song because in pikmin 3 a new mechanic would be hiding from bulborbs in shrubs
Something I immediately noticed when first playing the game is that when you first find Collin asleep in Pikmin 4 it plays the same music cue from when you first find Brittany asleep in Pikmin 3!
Yes, it's confirmed that pikmin 3 happens after pikmin 4. This is through dialouge through the Koppaites, and game dialouge. Dialouge says something about "the population going up on koppai, and if it continues there will be a food crisis". So it's basically confirmed in the game.
This has to be an alternate timeline, though, since the Koppaites independently discovered PNF-404 using their space drones at the beginning of Pikmin 3. If Pikmin 4 had happened earlier on the same timeline and there had already been Koppaites there, they would've already known PNF-404 to have exactly what they're after and they probably would've cultivated seeds from it before they were in danger of starving, which they say isn't an issue yet in Pikmin 4.

Olimar mention something he should ask Britanny. So it obviously happens after Pikmin 1.

That song is a different kind of memorable, if you know what I mean.
The first time i heard it i only had blue pikmin and my first thought was "dang they're really traumatized"
I heard them humming it right next to the engulfed castle and was concerned for them having faced the demon that is the Waterwraith
that would imply pikmin have genetic memory, which has terrifying implications. they're born already remembering what it's like to die over and over again

The water wraith theme is in this game too, so maybe they just remember it from the Engulfed Castle (though I think they can sing it whether you've been there or not). Also... having them literally remember the song would imply that the music plays in canon, which I highly doubt.
I was shocked way back when, after beating the water wraith and making it back to the surface, I read Olimar's synopsis of the creature and the fear I felt just seeing it the first time is the same as what he described.
There’s actually a third Mamuta- and possibly more I can’t remember- in Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale! It doesn’t have to be killed for any reason!
All of the cookies in the Sweet Tooth Series are references to the different cookies in Yoshi's Cookie.

From what I've noticed, the music boxes will actually speed up or slow down depending on how fast it's being carried
I noticed this when picking up the Lullaby one with whites and realised that it was playing at a faster tempo, so i would presume carrying it with purples would slow it down instead
I like the implication that the Pikmin have heard the music before and are innocently humming it together.
Also I think an argument can be made that the Pikmin recognising music is a sign they’re more sentient then we’re led to believe…
Olimar makes a theory that ships crash so often because the of something the Pikmin do. The Pikmin do it because they’re stupid and want an “alien brain” who’s smarter to be their leader.
This is why pikmin 4 being a reboot or alt time line makes no sense

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the boss room in the final level of the bulblax cave. The treasure is similar and placed above an incline that shoots fire, just like in pikmin 2
I noticed several rooms from Pikmin 2 being reused in the caves
There's a lot of familiar cave units take from 2, that one is just really recognizable
That entire cave is an easter egg actually, being a complete mashup og bulblax kingdom, and hole of beasts from pikmin2. Im a bit surprised this video didnt talk about it.

@@Teinve reused material is not a bad thing at all. sometimes assets, level design decisions, and mechanics don't need to be improved upon or replaced.
if every asset and every mechanic is redesigned from the ground up, sequels take like three times as long. like, i'm sure they didn't make all-new animations for the pikmin walking around.
dunno if you've ever played the dark souls games, but they reuse stuff all the time. there are animations from dark souls 1 that are used in elden ring, which came out nearly a decade later, and all of those games are excellent and recieve near universal praise
The pikmin singing the awaking wood theme made me physically stop out of nostalgia, since pikmin 2 was my first and I have distinct memories of the awakening wood specifically
Saaaame, awakening wood was my favorite (except Snagret Hole)

On the topic of pikmin critters singing, if you listen to the breadbugs in plunder palace they'll beep the giant breadbug theme :)
Ahh, I had heard about them singing, but didn't hear anything when observing them via the Piklopedia
That’s actually kinda cute, makes my love for breadbug bois grow that is a YEAST of a discovery (I will find myself the door)
Here are some other cool things I noticed:
If you make yourself look like any of the Castaways, They'll make a comment about how you look like Twins, each with unique dialogue.
On the topic of Castaways, Talking to them while playing as Oatchi also has unique dialogue (I believe Olimar talks about his dog Bulbie as well).
Not only does the room you first fight the Emperor Bulblax ment to be a look like the room you first fight him in Pikmin 2, The Treasure you find there also references the treasure you'd find in the same spot (Being the Gyoroid).
In Olimars Field Log, Not only does he mention his "Bad Dream" where he perishes and the Pikmin put him in the Onion, he also Mentions he had a dream that one of his Colleagues put them in debt by eating there Shipment, A reference to how Louie ate the Golden Pikpik Carrots in Pikmin 2 and started the whole story (In fact Louie says in his Log that he really wants to eat some Golden Pikpik carrots, and he's just waiting for the right job).
Now I might be crazy, but I believe Emperor Bulblaxes actually take more damage from Purple Pikmin then any other enemy, which is most likely a reference to how the Emperor Bulblax was an absolute Joke in Pikmin 2 because of Purples.
And last but not least, I heard that if you collect every Treasure, the final value will end in 128, most likely a reference to Mario 128, a showcase on the Game Cubes software that would eventually become Pikmin, but I cannot confirm if it's true.
Aren’t they taking more damage since purples just deal more damage in general? I think they have a 2x damage multiplier, while red have 1.5 and winged have 0.5.
As for the Emperor Bulblax one, each enemy has a special value for how many Purple Pikmin stomps are needed to kill it. That’s how tankier enemies like the dweevils die in one hit from purples.
So it may be possible that they coded the emperor to take far less stomps to kill then average for his health.
I doubt the Mario 128 thing because that game didn’t really become Pikmin iirc. It was just Miyamoto making up a cute story (sane with the ‘ants in the backyard’ thing)

I’ve gotta try those dialogue options, I had no idea about those
Nintendo put so much love into the soundtrack! Not only are there cute references like the music boxes, it's the most dynamic it has ever been. Every area and dungeon has at least 10 different versions. Even some enemies and bosses have their own themes.
One of those last 2 songs sounds like the post credits Pikmin Enemies theme from Pikmin 1. Where after beating the game your treated to a little cinematic of every monster found in Pikmin 1, including the Smokey Progg, even if you never broke the egg in Distant Spring.

Something I’ve noticed in the game is that every creature has a track that’s added onto the music of the area. I’m pretty sure this applies for every enemy

There's literally a mamuta in the Olimar mode in the first stage just vibing by the drop down bridge near the 3rd base location, so there's more then 2 and if I recall this one can be ignored as he yields no ship part

Half of my squad managed to somehow beat that Mamuta all on their own while I wasn't even watching! I just go there as Olimar since I was passing by, switched to Moss to do some stuff, switched back and it's dead
I was once working on a Pikmin 2 fan game (Which I've since abandoned),and I only put 1 song in the game: Awakening Woods
I've listened to that song for hours on end, to the point it's engrained in my memory, and I'll randomly hum it at times, and did it quite a bit while playing 4
So the first time my Pikmin began singing it, I was already humming it, and it seemed as if the Pikmin read my mind.

A note worth mentioning is that "daitoryo" can also mean "big man" or "boss".
While the latter meaning is usually for the head of a department in a company, the former meaning is sometimes intended when used for political actors such as the head of a party or (rarely) a world leader.

No, daitōryō (大統領、だいとうりょう) only means a president as a political leader.
It cannot be used for a head of party or a company, which is included in the meaning of English "president".
A leader of a political party (政党) will be tōshu (党首、とうしゅ) and a leader of a company (会社) will be shachō (社長、しゃちょう) or kaichō (会長、かいちょう).
Interestingly, the "President" of Taiwan is called Sōtō (総統、そうとう) using the same characters as the Chinese writing, and the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (自由民主党) is called Sōsai (総裁、そうさい).
Although there are exceptions like this, they are no examples calling other kinds of leaders as daitoryo.

the character Ton from Aggrestuko was called a "daitoryo" in the subbed version but "director" in teh dubbed versio
but he only ran one department of a larger company
it seems like there's some debate as to when the term should be used in politics
since it's prescribed to the head of the North Korean government, but his official title is "supreme leader"
China and Cuba's leaders also get that treatment despite the official titles of "chairman" and "secretary" respectively being ceremonial in what's supposed to be a "leaderless system"
it's still possible that the Hanafuda thing was a mistake
one theory says that Yamauchi, who founded Nintendo, mistook the image for Washington
but this seems unlikely
so likely just a mistake on their part (like the one I made)
@@safebox36 I haven't watched the show, but probably the case for Aggretsuko Ton (トン部長 buchō) was either a mistranslation or being sarcastic about his position. A head of a department, 部長、is usually never called as a Daitōryō.
In the case of political leaders, it is often the case that there is a mismatch between English, Japanese, and the local language.
At least for China, the terms for position names are read in the Japanese reading of the Chinese characters, so they are essentially the same.
The "Secured Satchel" Treasure has a message written on the back that says "Always & Forever ❤️"
And it's inconveniently tucked into a gate, fantastic nod to _The Bridge_

A completely missed part of the musical boxes is that the faster your pikmin move the faster the music box goes. Give it a try next time you play!

No that's similar but slightly different. I know its not that cause I would have immediately recognized it.
It's similar to the tune, yet still distinct.
I also don't recall hearing that tune anywhere in the pikmin games soundtracks. It might be something from pikmin 4.

My pikmin pretty much only sing "the water wraith is coming" to re activate my trauma

Other fact; around 1:30 minutes into Pikmin 4’s theme, there is a piano leitmotif of the Pikmin Motif.

the unique title animation when everything is inside a home; it does not only appear after you beat the game. I remember getting it when I hadn't even explored the last area yet.
I think the heroes’ hideaway title screen Easter egg unlocks after you reach that level.

Another thing: The Interstellar radio found by olimar in the hero's hideaway is a white recolor of the Analog Computer.
The actual interstellar radio doesnt appear in game at all strangely- not even on the side of the completed dolphin - only the Guard Satellite is in its corresponding side panel. I wonder why they did this?
As for the Mamuta, there's another one in the Sun-Speckled Terrace in Olimar's Shipwreck Tale
7:42 incorrect there is one more in the Olimar section of the game in Sun specked Terrace near the location of the beetle boss. He contains no treasure and I personally let him just Vibe.

Another Easter egg is when talking to the castaway who is an actor, Beaux I believe, he will mention previous roles he has done before. A plumber, an adventurer with a troubled past, and a hero with an insatiable appetite; clearly all a reference to Mario, Link and Kirby.
I wonder if the stuck time at 10:08 on the pocket watch means anything. Also the pikmin singing on oatchi's back is kind of creepy. Cool video though!! Thanks for finding out these eggs
My first pikmin game was pikmin 3 and I was really little so hearing it’s menu theme in pikmin 4 made me really nostalgic cause it was like playing pikmin 3 for the first time, again

Every castaway is some reference to a dog breed. On the minor characters section on the Pikipedia (aka the Pikmin Wiki), all the castaways' references should be listed. For the rescue squad:

I met him and knew he wouldnt hurt me so I just vibed with him for a bit and let him be. Then later at 99% area completion, I had oatchi sniff out treasure and he led me right to my big fluffy friend.

6:55 in someone's else video, in the files, the characters were named by the pikmin 3 cast. But there is the speculation that they scrapped the idea last minute and made the knockoff versions
The bread bugs in their cave will sing the original bread bug theme from PIKMIN 2.

When the game dropped Submerged Castle on me - layout, music and exclusive blue - I got so scared. And I rushed through the levels and funnily enough, only encountered Water Wraith at the boss arena
Those last two songs are the rally music when you rally your Pikmin in both 1 and 2 I think

I thought that the first unidentified song was a different version of the end of day theme. The notes are a bit different but the melody is there.
The 6th song is actually Final Trial people think it's Leafy Showdown from Pikmin 4 because that song is based on Final Trial's theme.

The mechanical harp (*MEMORY*) is a meta joke about Olimar getting kidnapped right after the game starts, which is naturally after the title screen where you hear the music in-game.
plus the pikmin sing the music too which was stated by olimar.
Just because olimar said future doesn't really mean is in the actual future
Actually, the hero’s hideaway version of the title screen replaces the sun speckled terrace version after saving captain olimar, no chance involved
It doesn't always show up, I was able to get footage of the sun speckled and hero Hideaway title screens by reopening the game a couple times
Pikmin 4 is clearly an alternative timeline moss was not in Pikmin 1 or 2 and in Pikmin 2 olimar clearly meets Louie for the first time on hocotate when he comes back and loses his ship. So Louie can't be on pnf-404 at the same time olimar's original ship

One of the treasures is a cookie that I swear comes from Yoshi's Cookie but I honestly don't know if that's a reference or even special in any way, or if the cookies in that game were like generic in Japan?? But I haven't seen anyone mention it and I'm going feral lol

I *want* to disagree with you but you're kinda right. There's a lot of work put into the soundtrack, it's extremely cohesive and they have so many variants...but MAN, they aren't catchy or even memorable. BoTW soundtrack all over again
