What do you think of the "film look" to the video? Trying out Resolve beta 19's new film look generator… it's pretty sweet!! BTW if you buy the lens, please use this link: geni.us/Laowa10mmFF
Really appreciate the detail put into the focal length comparisons. After watching this video, I dug out an Olympus Pro 7-13 that I got years ago for my micro 4/3 system (the barrel distortion wasn’t ideal for my purposes). Well, I just sold it to make room for this nice new lens. My full frames will be happy to mix in a few shots with this.
Photo for real taste, yes too wide. But for video since the S9 and S5IIX both crop for 60FPS, that makes it pretty good for video walk thru! SO you have a 15/16mm FOV for the video.
I have canon so it’s manual focus for me only, but why would I want a 5 vs 14 blade aperture? What’s the man advantage/disadvantage to one over the other???
It changes the bokeh pattern. That’s really it. The more blades, the more round it is. At five blades you’ll likely notice the pentagonal shape of the bokeh.
Number of blades determine how round the bokeh light points are. The more blades, the more round. Five blades will make a noticeably pentagonal bokeh. So, it’s a creative choice.
Other way around; that’d be 20mm on MFT. Of course the lens is too big for MFT. Laowa makes a 6mm MFT (so, 12mm equivalent). I made a video on it years ago: ruclips.net/video/7deNesteu8I/видео.htmlsi=keIrAKnHTHnBMpoH
@@photojoseph You had me super confused. The number is always smaller by half on MFT. 20mm would be a pretty standard focal length on MFT. I often get it backwards too, so I had to look it up. 😄 So it is in fact 5mm on MFT. Slightly wider than the widest 6mm available from Laowa. Love the look of the S9. Maybe a more photography based version will be available at some point. 🙂
They are working on it. I don’t know anything about costs or what it takes but the Alliance is, as the name infers, a group of companies. It’s not up to just one.
@@photojoseph That's very rude bro. You are of course in alliance with Panasonic and would defend them any how. On a different note, I love the S9. Panasonic is my fav camera brand.

Well, I'd love you to do a video about the film look generator - would be interesting to see how you use it :)
@@elementary8963 this was the very first time I used it. There are far more skilled resolve users than me, but I’ll keep it in mind!!
Loved how you compred the 18mm with 10mm by lining up the images. Such a great way to visualise just how much wider 10mm is!
Thanks!! That was a last minute add… realized it needed something. Glad that worked!!
The camera waifu herself has spoken
Honestly, the best setup I've seen so far with this lens. Great work! 👌
Wow, thanks!
A remarkable little lens. Love what happens with the x-pan crop. Some very distinctive imagery.
Agreed, and thank you!

That’s awesome! I’m glad the comparison was helpful. Honestly surprised me too. It’s a lot!!
Dope video man, thanks for sharing ! Love the images when you enabled the X-Pan crop.. sick !
Appreciate it!
The 2 aputure blade options are intriguing. That comparison would be interesting.
Wow, I also plan to use that combination; I've used the GM1 with the Laowa 7.5mm before.
Thanks for your review.
My pleasure!
Very informative as ever. Thank you!

Great review as always thank you !
Thank you kindly!
Nice shots. I might pick this lens up.
It’s a fun one for sure
Reaaaaally nice lens!
Hehe I like it too!

5 or 14 aputure blades for video?

How it performs on 6k open gate.
Same as for full frame photos. Very slight vignette in some shots.
Great Joseph Bro...
🙏🏻
Thanks
Fantastic
Thank you! Cheers!
Are manufacturers who aren’t part of the L amount alliance unable to add autofocus to their lens?
I believe it has to do with access to the proprietary tech that goes into the motor, but yes, they is the case. (As i understand it!)
Bro I want a 10mm so bad 😭
Link in description! 😁
Wait is that 10mm on Full Frame.. so 5mm on MFT? The lens makes the S9 look like a GM1. 😂

Not a fan of that lens it's not got autofocus yet all the other versions do
Actually that's not right… did you see WHY it's not autofocus? There's a very good reason. The Canon one isn't either, for the same reason.
@@photojoseph well them they should become part of it or panasonic should freely aloud companies to use autofocus l mount

Still not going to buy a LUMIX S9 .. no matter how hard RUclipsrs push it for Panasonic. It’s mediocre at best.
Ok, the camera isn’t for you. Lighten up.
Great review, I ordered this in February and I’m still waiting . Please Laowa ship it !!!!!!!!😂
@uzigalil oh wow! I’d check in with them
@@uzigalilI‘m in the same situation 😭
