- Should you avoid the wet season in Thailand? Is the monsoon season that bad? Is it dangerous? Where are the best locations to go during the wet season?
In this video I'll give my view and the overall concept of what you can expect and how to get the best from your trip to Thailand during the wet season.
Hi Josh, this is pretty normal in Thailand. During the end of the monsoon season, from late September to early October, we often experience heavy rain before the dry season starts. However, this kind of rain will occur later in November in the southern part of the country, such as Samui and Phuket.
@@garfield3972 looking forward to the dry season coming around again 👊🏻
Hey Buddy! I loved the subtitles, I think they are helpful for everyone. You pretty much gave a reasonable approach to what to expect during the rainy season in Thailand. All the best and hope to see you early next year.
Thanks mate! Appreciated. Will consider the subs moving forward too. Audio was shocking on this one!
It’s why I’m glad that now being retired and slow-traveling through SE Asia I have 3-1/2 months from the end of this month to the beginning of March to enjoy Bangkok. I was also reading today about the incredible pollution levels plaguing Bangkok this week. That’s something I never thought about either! Umbrella, rain parka, and masks!
That’s good you’ve got the flexibility 🙌🏻. I think bangkok is like most big cities in Asia with pollution, it’s never bothered me visiting for a short period but I wouldn’t want to live there personally
Another great video, and so true. I am far from an expert on Thailand, but life itself comes down to luck.
Defo a big element of luck involved! Thanks for the comment 🙌🏻
Love the wet season..My first visit was in the wet season..We used to sit on the beach at night in koh Chang and watch the lightening far out at sea..Although the storms never touched us it was a spectacular memory that I always remember..It’s nearly 30 years ago and don’t know if my geography is correct..I remember someone saying the storms were over Cambodia..I do remember it started raining in Bangkok and in 10 minutes we were wading through knee deep water in the street..It all added to the magical experience ❤
I think it’s a great time to visit. I wouldn’t want permanent rain but it’s rare that’s the case as you say. Some of those storms are so good to see, we rarely get anything like that back in the UK!
As someone looking to live there for a year this is very informative. Thanks!!
Thanks Steven!
I was in Phuket for 2 weeks in May, and the weather was OK. Showers, but they were not a problem. I returned I September, and it rained almost non-stop for the last 4 days I was there, and for the first time in 20 odd trips, I was glad to leave. I believe the rain stopped after I left.
Thanks for the insight. Always interesting to hear experiences like this. I was there in late July/ August and only had a few bad days but they still weren’t terrible days.
Our wet season in northern Nan province is May to September. We have no hesitation is recommending tourists come during it. Over the last five years we can only recall maybe twenty days when the weather made any outdoor tourism impossible. It very rarely rains all day. Conversely we actively discourage tourism during February to April when it is hot, dry and air polluted.
That’s interesting to know, thanks for the insight and info! Do you experience flooding where you are?
@@josh.onthemove Not in Pua or the Luang Prabang mountains. Nan city has been flooded twice in the last six years and the main road there (#101) cut at Tha Wang Pha several times however there is an alternate route via #1081 and #1069 that has never been out in that period.
@@ManagementPuaTranquilVistaHome thanks again for the info! Would be great to come up and visit!
It’s been a bit damp up here in Chiang Mai the last week or so… my mates place was chest deep on Saturday but the floods have mainly gone now… it’s all now heading down to Bangkok… they’re going to catch it badly flood wise by the weekend.
Chiang Mai is my first stop this Saturday.
@@RandysWorld It’ll be fine by then, they’re cleaning out all the mud in the roads and shops now,the old town is pretty much good to go as of today👍
It’s looked bad from what I’ve seen and heard. Hope you’re safe and haven’t been affected too much 🙏🏻
Hope your trip goes well!
Great video again, mate. I know this unpredictability from Indonesia where my parents are from. But here in Hamburg Germany it can be quite flaky as well. Two years ago our house got flooded as well. I really hope these floods in CHiang Mai will stop soon. Makes me sad for the people, but also worried about me going there in two weeks.
Thanks mate. I think most of south east Asia can be like it from what I’ve seen. I think you’ll be fine in two weeks, the situation is already beginning to improve 🙏🏻
@@josh.onthemove Yeah. I assume everything will be ok in two weeks. Just sad for all of the people having their homes damaged. Really looking forward to some vacation and muay thai training. Keep up the great videos. Looking forward to create some videos over there myself
Was at Bangkok for a short holiday at the end of September last month for 6 days, did not really encounter much rain. Factored in the possibility of days of rain but was lucky out of 6 days it only rained for afew hours on one of the mornings. Was informed halfway through my holiday that further up north in Chiang Mai they had flooding, chao phraya river water level was high, the floating markets water levels were high as well.
Glad your trip didn’t get impacted and thanks for the comment. Definitely wouldn’t have wanted to be up north recently!
Very useful. Will be going dry season then for 2 months. Want to stay in Chiang Mai after visiting Bankok, Phuket and Koh Samui. But Chiang Mai have burning season 3 months a year, so when to visit?, (it is either flooded or Bad air quality due to burning season.
Good luck with your travel!
Thanks for the comment. If you’re keen to go to CM in the dry season and want to avoid the smoke, December is probably your best bet if you can 👍🏻. I’d you’re not there for too long too then it might not impact you so bad. Try to be flexible with when you can go and check the air quality beforehand. Sorry I can’t be more specific 👍🏻
@@josh.onthemove December ist the best month anywhere in SEA I guess. "coldest" and no rain or burning at all...
Really useful video thank you🩷! I defo thought wet season meant permanently raining before I got here!
Thank you! I used to think the same tbh 😅
On my way there Saturday and I’m shooketh! What travel insurance do you recommend.
I think another comment said it’s clearing up now and improving 🙏🏻. Have a good trip and I use safety wing digital nomad insurance because it allows me to move countries if needed. If you’re just staying in Thailand for less than 60 days, a holiday travel insurance might be a better choice 👍🏻
excellent video again!!! Thank you...
Thanks mate 👊🏻
Hi Josh what camera are you using when filmong on your scooter?
@@tbazzakk9249 I’m using a GoPro for 90% of my talking clips and scooter/ first person filming. I use my phone for the rest 👍🏻
@@josh.onthemove Thanks bud!
Brilliant again, no bullshit just straight facts 👍👍
Thanks Kevin 👊🏻👍🏻
It's probably still 30C! I don't mind rain...but a constant downpour over a 2 week vacation..Ya, that's a bummer. I've been to Puerto Rico and it's a tropical island...so expect rain at times! When that happens...I go to the rainforest!!!
Yeah if I was on holiday and it was constant rain, it would be gutting. Been to Barcelona a few years back expecting sunshine and it was rain and cold 🫠
PS it’s 31C 😉
@@josh.onthemove Hazy hot and Humid...!!! Love that weather...but I also love the seasons..This morning in New England was 9c.
@@josh.onthemove most of my friends and family like to go to Aruba in the Caribbean..because of the 330 days of sun a year!
Im coming in 3 weeks - the forecast looks bad but a live webcam of Phuket looks okay
The forecast is largely bad most areas, most the time tbh mate. You’ll have a good time I’m sure. You’ll probably get some rain but not enough to ruin your trip 👊🏻
@@josh.onthemove Thanks 🙏🏼
Another great Vid Josh. Lets face it if british people cant handle that rain in 30 degrees or so then they are pure numpties that cant google a thing. Still better than here but I get the point of your video and thats to educate people on when to go and not get caught out then have a negative impression of that amazing country!
Thanks mate. Haha, a bit of research never hurts! 100% that, if you’re going just for 2 weeks the last thing you want is to get 1 week of rain 🫡
@@josh.onthemove so so true!
Hey josh, you in hua hin full time now , training ...
Do I really need to get jabs man? I’m off to Thailand next month and booked for jabs next week but I really don’t want them
@@TheEpicLegend you don’t ‘need’ to bro but if you’re not up to date with your tetanus shots and potentially one or two others, I’d probably get it. Your body tho, only you can make the call 👊🏻
What I really hate about rainy season.. it´s hotter than usual unless you are somewhere in the North. And when you have to walk into a 7/11 or Makro etc. to get some western stuff the difference in temperature feels to huge to handle at times (for me as a european who is sensitive wit AC at least, we don´t really have it in our environment) while you are completely wet walking like into a fridge. Also the first rain can be dangerous and you should wash your hair as soon as possible cause it can make u sick. That said I think the beginning of the rain season is totally fine for travelling but you should definitely avoid the autumn months. Because due to climate change it´s where the most rainfall happens. Maybe I am wrong but this is my observation over the last years that it keeps being dry in the months where it should usually rain already..
Good shout and observations re the weather. Who knows what’s happening but it defo seems to come later than earlier. I experienced the exact same with getting wet and then being in AC earlier. It’s crazy how cold you can feel, especially after being accustomed to the heat
Very useful 👍
Thanks Kev!
It would be a better understanding for everybody if you and the others who give us information at what place and date the video is shot. Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback, taken on board. That was filmed yesterday so I didn’t expect the date to be needed. I’m also in Hua Hin but have spent time in HH, Samui and Phuket this wet season with similar experiences 👍🏻
Anytime is good no such thing as a bad time to come and iv been coming nearly 30 years mate
There’s such thing as a better and worse time depending on your preferences 👍🏻
@@josh.onthemove Flights are expensive during summer holidays as well as christmas high season cheaper flights are September Rainy season ughh when the kids go back to school hope you learned something have a good day
@@robiewonga6539 That's what I mentioned that there's better and worse times to come depending on your preferences. Thanks again for the comment 👍🏻
Where is this video shot at?
Hua Hin 👍🏻
If you want no rain season forget Thailand forget Philippines come to Portogal or Spain mucho caleinte very Hot and dry and never visa problems no corruption
@@DirkPepermans Spain does tempt me sometimes actually but the visa issues are very similar or worse from what I’ve looked into now the UK aren’t in the EU?
@@josh.onthemove I´m EU citizen so no worries for me and if you go and life South of Middle of Spain sunshine yearround and also very important no dengue fever from the mosquitos like in South East Asia
Probably just carry an umbrella when you go out.
That’ll make the beach days more enjoyable 😅
I would never call that a nice Holiday, to be there at that Time. That would be a waste of Money. Enjoy your Time, when the Weather gets better again !.
@@ThomasBauch-d6q you’re right, defo not the best time for a holiday if you get unlucky but could be cheaper and less crowds, if you get lucky with the weather it could be a dream holiday 👍🏻
@@josh.onthemove I don't know, about the Loy Krathong Festival this Year, especialy Chiang Mai. They have said, Loy Krathong in Chiang Mai is one of the most beautiful Events up north in Thailand. I hope for them, they going to get a Chance to celebrate that. Is another Month to go, but i hope everything will be fine and you can enjoy it. Good Luck !.
Depends, I've been in pattaya for the last month and it's hardly rained at all, just a few downpours here and there that have lasted an hour or so with only really 1 day where it rained most of the day
