Thanks, this in fact worked for me. Lift the connector completely to the back as far as it goes and slide the cable in it, that way it should now work to clip it in
Is this question a joke? In any event, the locking plastic piece needs to be lifted to AT LEAST 90 degrees vertically in order to PLACE the ribbon cable in and not slide it into places. That is, for the cable you're having problems with. Other ribbon cables DO slide into place but same thing, need to lift plastic lock ALL the way up, not just a little.
Try double sided tape thin type though, put it on the ribbon cable underneath and also on the plastic clip underside too, should work i have done it a few time before on repairs to clients laptops, use the tape and double it up if you have a gap from motherboard to the ribbon on the keyboard, pack it i think the term is called, then peel the double sided tape from the plastic strip lock mechanism and make sure the keyboard ribbon is in then push it down and make sure its stuck firm. Then when done, pop some tape over the whole thing to give it security that it wont come out during transit and moving about...Hope that makes sense folks....
Thank you so much everybody. This video is pretty old but if it means anything, this really helped me out. Imagine replacing a battery, and then worrying that by fixing one huge problem you caused another! Glad to know I just didnt reconnect it all the way.
Push the flat cable all the way in. Close the latch down. Hold it down with your finger. Put some crazy glue on a toothpick. Apply glue on both outer edges of closed latch and wait until it dries.
Hey I just had the same prob and watched ur video n I got it working thought should return the favor. See the keyboard ribbon has a white line..lay it flat on the motherboard and slide it in till the white line dissapers/ goes all the way in and then snap it shut. It'll hold. I also had used tape and all that n nothing. Till I did this and I'm back in business. Hope this helps someone! Cheers!
Here's the deal: the ribbon as you have it positioned now is flipped on its back. The tension from that will not allow it to close. Turn the keyboard over in it's installed position, the ribbon would then be flat with no tension. Lift the top just enough to be able to insert and plug in the ribbon, close the clasp and you're done.
You have to pull up the black thing but don't push it up very much because it's fragile and then insert the ribbon into it ,as far as you can and then press it down. I hope it works.
I sadly upgraded laptop , hhd to ssd , which I had to remove the keyboard to access hard drive for this swap , anyway short story I got involved in screws ( to open laptop a couple of times ) and all that which after reconnecting everything I had trouble with that one last one the keyboard and being in this state of " tired and get all done asap " I broke the black piece which holds the keyboard cable! Nightmare soon began for me with getting the keyboard cable to be fastened in place ! So for about a week , every other day I got into this battle to make keyboard function, thought just about all forms of tape, masking being the better , anyway I got it to work but some keys began to not function , so I was stuck! I tried and tried and at times I had it working so I thought until I noticed some keys not working , so stuck! At one point I thought I should just get a bluetooth keyboard and use laptop as a desktop , so yeah , but I just could not let it as is and kept working around the various taping methods which I gave up but thought about gluing the black fasterner to a business card!? So I took a pause decided to really peak inside and just investigate around the motherboard connector area, after a good study of it I noticed the pins , there is a small degree of space between motherboard base and the keyboard cable! ( the same about as the black fastener thickness) I had a couple of types of thin materials I was going to try to fasten on top which did not work so with the study of the distance of motherboard base and keyboard cable is a very very thin space for which I just went with it and slid a thin piece of material (metrocard which is plastic thin plastic) slid it on top of keyboard cable as the cable fit into connector ! It amazingly slid in and the keyboard cable got secured beautifully in place , later after I connecting all turn laptop on , all keys so far work ! It has worked so far with all keys functioning THANK GOD I hope this reckless handling of my upgrade experience help !? I don't recommend this but it has worked , a alternative from taping and retaping which kept slipping slightly out causing non functioning keys!
So you attached the plastic material to the cable and then fitted it in or you used the plastic to wedge the cable into place? I have exactly the same issue, except my black connector piece broke off and got lost - inside - the laptop somewhere. lol
You can try cut up plastic piece such as from those ram memory stick plastic packs and cut it to the tip of the size and then tape it down to fit the tip end... This would then add tension in place to compress the pins in place which will be a tight fitting. If you can get it in.. tape it down and test it afterwards
For the the black clip is broken and the upper pins seem to be tempered with. What do i do because this connect I/O unit and even the power button. My dell xps 13 laptop isn't coming up
I think you just flip the black part up, then slide the ribbon cable in, then flip the black part down to pinch the cable against the contacts and secure the cable in place.

found this video when trying to think of a way to fix an old Toshiba ... the problem is that while i was careful, the plastic clip itself broke into like 3 pieces when it flipped up ... i wonder if the heat (Toshiba's are known for overheating ... at least in that era ... @ 2008-2009ish) made it so brittle ... I use a usb KB with it now but i still have the old one here and the connection wasn't complete but it did work when i plugged it back in ... no matter what DIY method i tried ... it'd just wouldn't stay-put without that black clip firmly holding it down
I think I'm having a similar issue with a Nintendo Switch joy con. The black plastic clip was stuck, so when I tried to pry it up to get the ribbon cable out, it broke in 3 pieces. So now there's no black clip and kapton tape isn't much help. Did you ever find a fix?
if nayone can here hep me... i was replaring my laptop the black part on the top of the connector that moves up and down and then locks the ribbon cable in place broke i sthere a way just to replace that black part please help thankyou
From what I've seen people say in other posts about this issue, best bet is probably to by a used motherboard that doesn't work and would just be for parts. Then just carefully remove the clip from that motherboard and put on your laptop.
i just noticed this video as i was having the same problem..for me i just pluck out the clamp and installed it up side down and it connects just like that
you have to open the entire connector, then those lateral pads need to sit inside of the connector. The white line indicates where the brown lid from the connector should be placed, if is away from the connector lid, then you are doing it wrong.
I posted a repair video for this type of damage, where only the clip is damaged or missing. Search RUclips for "Easy Ribbon Cable Connector Fix, Repair" Alex, Austin_Semiconductor
Hi I had the same problem On my ps3 but woress I had broken the black clip the thing that had worked for me was get a hard plastic like that of a credit card and cut a little lip the same size of the Robbin and, squeeze it in and it should work for me it did

Not sure, I think something similar with me happened with a Nintendo Switch joy con. The black plastic clip was stuck, so when I tried to pry it up to get the ribbon cable out, the black clip broke off. I tried kapton tape, but no luck.
Do you not have a repair place, for computers, around where you live, that white line across the cable is there for a reason, are you playing with us, just look at other ribbons, wow.
Do not use "more presure". Just look closely at your keyboard cable ribbon and you'll see two small, about half circle shaped protrusions (not sure how to call them) on each side of the cable that will perfectly fit to your connector.
I found this video online on the 3.7min of the video there is a close up of the conector and you'll see how you cable will fit to the conector. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/dp-xq4XVvk4/видео.html
Thanks again, my problem is solved! I realized from the video you linked, that I wasn't lifting the latch far enough open for the cable tabs to seat correctly . My keyboard now works properly, this is great!

You got so lucky. Lol. My clip, for Toshiba L875 slides off to remove the cable, then you have to slide it back in once you lay the cable.... Long story short, it was so hard to slide back in, and I damaged the clip that slides out a little. Still works fine, but I'm trying desperately to find where to get just the retainer clip (or whatever it's called), in case it fails. I've got to do another repair, soon. Been searching all day. Anyone have ideas?
Hot glue gun over the sealed clip. But make sure the cable is functioning first! I've had simular issue in the last 12 hours so the best idea that I have found is hot glue gun ... I can't just replace my clip as the body it goes into broke on one side. Only way the cable is going to stay now is hot glue.. worst thing is it's the power button ribbon clip!! Such a ball ache!!

You need to rise the connector up completely, the sides that have a bump need to go behind the plastic holders.
