    The movement in the Seiko is a clunky lowbeat, the 9015 is a smoother highbeat. The NTH is thinner because the 9015 movement is thinner. The NTH crystal is a double-domed sapphire with AR coating. The Seiko is not. The NTH is 300M WR, the Seiko is only 200M WR. Also the NTH has a lumed bezel and crown, the Seiko does not. And the lume is as bright and long lasting as the Seiko. The Seiko crown is unsigned. Plus the NTH has drilled lugs, the Seiko does not. I like the Seiko, but to my mind the NTH is a better watch. I had to spend considerably more for the Seiko SLA017 in order to get a better watch than the NTH.

      Thanks for your comment, which is an interesting and very valid point of view. I'm not a huge fan of the 6r15 movement either and in this comparison the Miyota easily wins. I'll have to pick you up on the lugs - Seiko's are also drilled. And, much more nicely, which is kind of the point of the video. It's not an apples to apples comparison so many of the differences are subjective - I'm not a fan of fully lumed bezels, you might be. What isn't subjective is the quality of the finishing. The Seiko just feeling like a much nicer watch. Please don't get me wrong, i love the NTH, particularly for offering something that the big brands don't/can't. I'd offer the SPB143 as the logical upgrade for those who don't want to spend SLA 017 money.
      Thanks for watching and commenting, it's greatly appreciated.

      Valid good points! I might also add that the Seiko divers have unwieldy large dimensions for a small wristed person like myself (6.25"). I would buy a lot more Seikos, especially the Seiko Sumo, a beautiful watch with amazing Japanese design but too large! I draw the line at 49mm lug to lug and 41mm diameter. The NTH is a much better size at 11.5mm thick and 40mm diameter.

    I dont know if seiko is a good example. Most micros offer sapphire solid endlinks and clasp for a lot less when you have to spend at least $600 with seiko to get those things. Companies out of china are offering all that plus high beat swiss movements for around $300. Seiko offers name recognition and everything in house. That is their appeal but they dont have the same value proposition they once did, oh though compared to other swiss manufacturers its still good.

    I like microbrands when they bring something different to the table. For instance, I picked up a Vario hand wind art deco dress watch. There is literally nothing quite like it on the market. It was worth every penny.

      I agree. Microbrands offer something the big manufacturers can't. The purpose of this video is to try and help people understand the value proposition.

    Great comparison, and you can really see the difference.

      Thanks for the comment. There are perceived differences here which will be subjective. Both are good watches, but we are all looking for something different in our watch collecting journey.

    Your video hits home as I have been thinking about this myself. I also have the exact same NTH. I really like the watch from the looks to the build quality. The one thing that gets me though is the $675 usd price tag. I really think for that price it should have an eta 2824 in it. The 9015 in mine runs like a champ and is pretty darn accurate. I don’t have a MM200 like you have but I do have a SBDC053 and it is a much better watch then the NTH. But like I said I really like the NTH I just think it is priced about $100 more then it should with the 9015 in it.

    • @WTMS1
      @WTMS1  4 года назад +1

      I agree that the NTH 'should' probably be cheaper. But I'm ok with paying the price because i enjoy what microbrands offer.
      There are a lot of watch reviewers that heap shining praise on these things and after watching their video you'd be forgiven for thinking the watch rivals Rolex quality.
      The purpose of my video is just to point out that this is not the case. But also that doesn't mean micros are a bad value proposition, only that the buyer should understand the difference.

      The 9015 is at least as good a movement as the 2824/sw200. There have been reliability issues with the 2824, never heard of any issues with the 9015.

      You're right, the 9015 is a very good movement

    I have the seiko sbdc061, the longines hydroconquest ceremic and the steinhart ocean one. The steinhart is good quality voor the money. The longines is way overpriced for what you get, the bracelet and clasp is like a $200 watch. The sbdc061 is the better watch, build like a tank and "up to the task" you get way more than pay for.

      Seiko value goes a long way. I really like some of the heritage stuff Longines have released lately. Albeit I've yet to have one in the hand which can make all the difference

    I was drawn to the sharper edges of the NTH. I agree with you on some points though. I just got a Seiko Arnie for about £400 and I love it but the bezel is squishy and has that chromium coated plastic look. No sapphire either. For a similar price to the NTH. Might not be an apple to apples comparison due to the style of watch though.

      I have a lot of time for micro brands. They can offer something that's it's hard for the big watch companies to do. But after a few micro brand purchases what struck me was the quality difference. So no, it's not apples to apples, but i wanted to try and explain the difference so people know what they are getting into.
      After watching TGV's video on the first Lorier Neptune i was sure it's quality rivaled Omega, but was sorely disappointed with the watch. It was a beautiful watch, but lacked the quality feel that you get with a quality watch. It's a good example of what i love and hate about micro brands!

    I agree on most points, the price you have for the SBDC063 is nowhere near the actual price of a brand new one. Used, you could find at the price you are commenting on. Brand new...its a few hundred more, especially when you buy one with a bracelet. The other issue you have to deal with on the Seiko is their extreme poor quality control. It is now very common to get a Seiko that the chapter ring is not lined up, the bezel doesn't line up as well.
    Seiko is an amazing watch company, but keep in mind, you will find a few duds from the factory for the few that are perfectly aligned. The movement in the MM200 is hit or miss. It may be within specs, or you can easily find out that is more tha 30 seconds a day in either direction. Again, good points, but using Seiko as the quality product to compare is probably not what it used to be.

      Thank you for your considered comment.
      Both watches were bought used bringing the price to within about $50 of each other.
      And no, Seiko qc is not perfect, but a demonstration of what a given amount of money will get you going with a big brand vs microbrand.
      The mm200 is one of the most stunning £500 watches I've owned, but my £200 Hamilton is far more accurate.
      Thanks for watching and commenting

    Hard to Find AT movement, AR Saffire, 300m, 120 bezel & great lume. Not to mention the Barracuda no date looks awesome! for $700.00
    Of course, you can spend 4k and get the Tudor I'm not mad at you!

      Don't get me wrong, the NTH is a great watch, but with the caveat that it is a microbrand, so the quality is not on par with the big boys. But you get something the big boys can't deliver. So, horses for course. I love my NTH, but i wish it had an ETA for the money.

    Comparing my NTH Barracuda with my Seiko Turtle that I got for almost half the price of the NTH, I agree the Seiko does deliver better value. The value of the NTH is in it's beautiful gilt-relief dial, but the bracelet dramatically cheapens the perceived quality of the watch. It just feels flimsy and cheap to me, compared to the incredibly robust bracelet of the Turtle. I read the next batch of Barracudas that they will sell in October are going to be priced above $700. To me, that's far too much. A buyer might as well reach a bit higher and get a titanium Seiko Shogun or a Longines.

      Hi and thanks for watching and commenting. I totally agree on the value of the nth being in the dial and also being something different to the mainstream affordable watches. Turtles are great but you need a big wrist to wear one!

    With Seiko you don't get sapphire, you get QC issues such as misaligned bezels, bad screw down crowns (even sellers have a warning for bad seiko crowns), low beat cheap movements 4r or 6r, cheap bracelets. The bezel insert on that seiko looks no better than a $150 Orient diver lol. Not sure how you came to these conclusions...

    microbrands sell design and cosmetics... most are homages. i totally agree with the finishing. but i guess as they grow, they can produce better quality at par with established brands.... another thing, only a few microbrands really regulate the watch in their production. some good microbrands produced ISO certified divers... complying to the industrial standards.

    If Seiko could offer Simple things Like Sapphire

    • @WTMS1
      @WTMS1  4 года назад

      If only. Is not much to ask. They do seem particularly attached to hardlex

  • @watchalot919
    @watchalot919 3 года назад +2

    Totally disagree. Seiko give you Hardlex, poorly aligned bezels, rubbish bezel actions, pressed clasps, and hollow end links. I own Seiko watches, and various micro brands, and in my opinion most Micro brands are far better

    • @WTMS1

      I hope my admiration for micro brands comes across in the video. There are differences in the fit and finish that can be achieved at a given price point, but i love that micros can offer something the big boys cannot. For me that is the main appeal of micro brands. I've owned lots of Seiiko watches and never had a qc issue. Perhaps I've just been lucky?! Thanks for watching and commenting
