Henk agreed to sing this with Floor as long as he could do it with Floor and Nightwish when they came to Amsterdam. That promise was kept last year. They have performed it together several times, the latest being last week when Floor opened for Metallica in Amsterdam. Henk was the Dutch phantom for many years and a favourite of Andrew Lloyd Weber.
Did you check out the recent time when Henk joined Nightwish in Amsterdam recently! Very awesome. Btw Henk was the original Phantom in the Netherlands. Reportedly he was one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s favorite actors.

Henk was Floor's childhood operatic hero. He was "The Phantom" for many years on stage. Metal is not popular in the Netherlands. So even though Floor was very popular in Germany, Finland, South America, and other places (especially after her Nightwish debut in 2012) she was pretty much unknown in 2019 in her home country. That all changed with this Beste Zangers TV show. I think only one of her fellow singers knew something about her. The other Dutch singers thought she was just some 'metal chick.' Henk had no idea who she was. There were 8 episodes in the 2019 season. Floor sang in 7. In English, Dutch, Spanish, German. This show is not a singing competition. It is a show that spot lights one singer each week, and the other singers sing songs that have special meaning to the featured artist. When Henk was featured, Floor sang 'Vilja Lied' from the Merry Widow (in German.) I believe that was the first time anyone heard her sing on the show. She sang it because she know Henk's mother would sing it to him. Finally after singing since the age 16, Floor became a star in her own country.
There are too many contests on tv like The Voice or 'Got Talent'. Nice to watch a show where vocalists celebrate each others careers, without competition, though they do their best because they want to show their talent and not disappoint.

The people on the couch are also singers, all from different genres and each night a different one would be on the center couch and all the others would sing a song to them. It could be a song that means something to them or a cover of one of their songs. The last night was for duets, so Floor got Henk to sing this song with her. The opening night Floor sang a German Opera song called Vilja Lied to Henk because his Mother used to sing it to him and his father when he was a boy and yes she sang it in German.

Because I'm a chess nerd, and this fits: Queen to D6. Checkmate. 😅 Edit: Ms. Muse, Dom, Henk Poort has played the Phantom in the Netherlands for around 30 years now. In fact, he was one of Floor's idols growing up, and is a major reason she started singing -- because of him. And when she found out he was going to be on Beste Zangers, I can imagine how much she fan-girled over him, being a fan of his for so long. They say, "Never meet your heroes," but with Floor meeting hers, it wasn't just a meeting, but at that time, it was a promise made, which turned into this year at the Ziggodrome in Amsterdam, a promise kept, because of this performance basically shattering the 24-hour views record on the internet when it dropped. Floor then asked Henk if he would perform with Nightwish, and he said yes -- not to mention Tuomas, who wrote the arrangement heard here, evidently was highly in favor of Henk and Floor dueting together! But the big point is, we have Henk to thank for playing the Phantom so long ago, because without Floor seeing him play the Phantom, she would never have become the singer we know her as. I don't know about you, but I will always be grateful to him for inspiring Floor.
This was a bucket list thing for her because she grew watching him be the phantom so this was huge for her and because it turned out so well they still do this occasionally when she's on tour😎

I love Floor's Voice and the brightness to her tone. She's got an excellent Vibrato and.. doesn't warble. Also, I like the Rock-ish edge she adds to some of the lyrics. She'd make an excellent "Christine."

Henk isn’t “a” Phantom, he was the original in the Netherlands and has also played it in other countries, as well as many other roles in musical theatre as well as opera. Lloyd Webber himself considered him among the very best in the role. You do mispronounce his name though, there is no “i” between the n and the k. There are other performances of this one, including one with Nightwish in the Ziggo Dome (I saw it live) and one pending for Metallica in Amsterdam. There are also recordings of her solo shows like “Live in Amsterdam” which feature it. There have been other duets with Henk as well, such as Dangerous Games.
The Dutch phrase "Beste Zangers" can be translated correctly in two ways, 1. Best Singers, and 2. Dear Singers. The TV show is not a competition, on the contary. As you know, Floor dislikes competitive singing. As you may know, Floor had a musical theatre teacher for many years. So she is thoroughly trained in the drama too.
I’ve zero clue about Floor as a person, just her talent. I try not to pry too deep into the people behind the music in case there be monsters. Up until then, I'd only been to a few other shows mainly Gilbert and Sullivan works. H.M.S. Pinafore and The Mikado. Phantom was my first Lloyd Webber Production. Blew my 21 year olds mind away. tee hee !! I've always loved Musical Theatre.

That thunder you hear at the very beginning actually is a thunderstorm by the way. The entire show took place in a large tent, and this was the very last performance and the tent was starting to break down, water started to come in so they actually set up little buckets and even their glasses and such to contain it 😂

Oh trust me the grass is ordered, his nickname is panda cat cos he's obsessed with this bamboo plant in the garden. Like he mewls to get out to it then sits there slowly chomping and enjoying himself immensely.
This is the Nightwish arrangement (maybe a bit toned down). Henk added distortion to match the metal sauce that was poured on to it as he is usually a musical theater performer.. Two other Nightwish versions. The original Nightwish version with Tarja and Marco and then the recent version with Floor and Henk performing with Nightwish. There are other versions that Floor performed with Henk on her solo shows... so lots to choose from. Floor has been doing Phantom for a long time.. she did Phantom with Russell Allen at the Christmas Metal Symphony 2008 (on RUclips but audio not great)
This is a very nice performance of Floor and Henk. In 1998 I bought my first Nightwish CD. It was their second album - Oceanborn. I went to countless concerts over the years. The band had lots of ups and downs, during the changes of their singers (Tarja, Annette, Floor). I think every one of them is very gifted, but sometimes I miss Tarja with the way she performed the songs. I remember a Wacken Open Air concert, where I was close to the front row, just standing there, listening to Nightwish with Tarja as a leadsinger, tears were running down my face while goosebumps appeared on my arms. ❤ That was such a wonderful moment. 😊 Floor ist also able to create goosebumps within her audience. She has proven to be a master of voice control. She is able to switch effortless between different styles, between chestvoice and headvoice, between an operatic vibrato and a strong high belt. But Henk is very special, too. In this version of 'The Phantom of the Opera' Henk goes all in and adds a very nice portion of grid to his voice and keeps it during his wonderful vibrato. Chapeau! I hope that they are going to perform a lot more songs together. 😊
I DON'T miss Tarja. She had a pretty operetic voice BUT she lacked the Multi-talented diversity of style that NIGHTWISH needed to fully bring out the intensity of the songs. But, I appreciate your loyalty for a Singer long gone from NW.

This is the Nightwish arrangement (maybe a bit toned down). Henk added distortion to match the metal sauce that was poured on to it as he is usually a musical theater performer.. Two other Nightwish versions. The original Nightwish version with Tarja and Marco and then the recent version with Floor and Henk performing with Nightwish. There are other versions that Floor performed with Henk on her solo shows... so lots to choose from. Floor has been doing Phantom for a long time.. she did Phantom with Russell Allen at the Christmas Metal Symphony 2008 (on RUclips but audio not great)

In 1998 I bought my first Nightwish CD. It was their second album - Oceanborn. I went to countless concerts over the years. The band had lots of ups and downs, during the changes of their singers (Tarja, Annette, Floor).
I think every one of them is very gifted, but sometimes I miss Tarja with the way she performed the songs.
I remember a Wacken Open Air concert, where I was close to the front row, just standing there, listening to Nightwish with Tarja as a leadsinger, tears were running down my face while goosebumps appeared on my arms. ❤
That was such a wonderful moment. 😊
Floor ist also able to create goosebumps within her audience.
She has proven to be a master of voice control. She is able to switch effortless between different styles, between chestvoice and headvoice, between an operatic vibrato and a strong high belt.
But Henk is very special, too. In this version of 'The Phantom of the Opera' Henk goes all in and adds a very nice portion of grid to his voice and keeps it during his wonderful vibrato. Chapeau!
I hope that they are going to perform a lot more songs together. 😊

I DON'T miss Tarja. She had a pretty operetic voice BUT she lacked the Multi-talented diversity of style that NIGHTWISH needed to fully bring out the intensity of the songs. But, I appreciate your loyalty for a Singer long gone from NW.
