- The next stop on my tumble down the @nightwish rabbit hole, is the band performing Phantom of the Opera ft. Henk Poort, one of the most iconic phantoms to have ever stalked the Paris Opera House.
This performance marks 17 years since the band has performed this song live, and it's also the premiere performance with @FloorJansenOfficial & Henk live on stage.

Thanks for sharing. Floor and her 12 second special moment - I love this woman as an artist and as a person!
She seems to inspire people and bring such joy with her talent and she seems so authentic. I’m a huge fan now.
And that Crowd Roar, when Henk walked on stage, wearing Official "Nightwish Family" T-shirt, but that Floor's last note... it was insane 12,2 sec.

Totally epic! Like chills up the neck.
During soundchecks for this concert, Nightwish and Henk practiced this song in secret, with only their in-ears/headsets on, so that people in the audience milling about would not hear what they were singing. Only when Floor sang that very first note did the crowd know and their reaction was genuine, as was their reaction when Floor gestured for Henk to come onstage
I can imagine how epic that would be to hear that note and be so shocked and happy
We were waiting for it though. It was a strong possibility it would happen, as Floor promised Henk back with Beste Zangers to o it with Nightwish too. It took a long wait, but this was it. And it didn’t disappoint.

this was after her surgery to be cancer free she was still recovering.
quick recap (most of this is public )she was DXed in October surgery was around Oct she had aprox 2 or 3 weeks recovery first time on stage November 20 2022 this was November 27 2022 as far as what is known the Nightwish Army is aware she had radiation in January just to keep cancer free
Oh no I didn’t know she’d had cancer.
I'm just glad that it was diagnosed very early and had no chance of spreading. Otherwise, there would be no "cancer free" ever again (at least not without our current medical options)... The author of the XKCD comics explained the problem pretty well in no. 931, "Lanes" (after having done a ton of research after his then-fiancee got stage III breast cancer)...

This really is the epic of the epics. Notice Tuomas's 'Pan's Labyrinth' - shirt ("In this Labyrinth, where Night is blind"). And Henk is sporting in classic "Nightwish Family" -shirt, which he really deserves. Excellent stuff! ⛄❄👍

This is a promise kept. Henk agreed to do it with Floor on Beste Zangers if he could do it with Nightwish if the opportunity arose (a bit of a tongue in cheek request).
So 3 years later, after the COVID stuff, Nightwish came to Amsterdam and invited Henk.
Actually, I think Henk may have been a little in awe here, but delivered the goods.

Yes, though I think he delivered only fair. His performance on Beste Zangers was better, I think. He came off as taking it little bit too easy. The video here is also a bit better than it sounded to me live (I was there).

I must say i prefer the "Best Zangers" version because of its more intimacy. There Henk and Floor were singing to each other, while here they often sing more to the audience and also are not standing so close together all the time.
And else for the performance on the big stage, Tarja and Marco just killed it.
Agreed. I also prefer the vocals on that version (though that last note here was insane). It's great having the entirety of Nightwish (along with Henk) performing it, though. They killed it, as always. Both versions are awesome in their own way.
I get it, but for me it’s impossible to choose and I lean towards the bigger rock version cos I’m a metal head through and through but both versions are so rich!

This version does have appeal such as the length of the last note, Nightwish playing the instruments...but personally I do prefer the Beste Zangers version because of the more intimate setting. the sound seems to lose something because of the much larger stage

@@themetalmuse : Yes, most certainly -- because most Americans don't expect a metal singer to be able to sing something like opera, despite singers like Bruce Dickinson singing Hallowed Be Thy Name.
If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend reacting to Iron Maiden, live at the Hammersmith, 1982 -- Hallowed Be Thy Name. In that video, you'll see why Bruce Dickinson got the nickname "Human Air Raid Siren." And, you'll see why Iron Maiden was one of the premiere storytelling bands, even in the 1980s, as Hallowed Be Thy Name is about an imprisoned man, who is condemned to die by hanging. The song "Hallowed Be Thy Name" is basically his thoughts and fears as he walks from his cell to the gallows.

I've seen the Phantom broadway show live 3 times since 1990 and own the movie with Gerard Butler. I don't recall Christine and the Phantom being dressed like this. Floor could of covered her tattoos for this song. Christine didn't have any. That's why Floor and Hank's performance on Beste Zangers is my favorite version. I enjoy the 2005 Marko and Tarja performance also.

Floor made this concert something very special. When she had made her jokes with Henk, the big smile could not be removed from the faces of the people anymore.
Also, there was a version with Tarja and Marko, which was amazing. Now, there is a version with Floor and Henk Poort, which is also amazing. Both are different, but both are rocking!

I was there and I can say that it sounded pretty the same as after NW editing things for in the recording (less noise from the audience in the clip as it was deafening in the beginning). And that is what I have against the Beste Zangers version: auto-tuned and edited by the broadcasting company. Floor is like NW: best to be consumed live.

Hehe, I knew you won't wait long to react to it. This performance is more than amazing, same as prevoius live from end of era. Henk performed perfectly, but I still feel Marko is the best phantom ever! One fun fact, the musicle usually is performed with lip syncing (due to one classical composer), but come on, Floor (as well as Tarja) does it live.
P s. About Tommy Johanson, did I miss your reaction o_O? He is awesome, wish to hear him performing it live!
Very very very hard to decide, like I’d be splitting hairs to decide. Both are so good get unique in their own ways.
@@themetalmuse sure sure, I appreciate both, but it seems a sort of duckling syndrome (dunno if I translated properly), I just fell in love with that Phantom 15 years ago or so and Marko first made such a really dark Erik (as he should be) and he uses more growl and his dynamic range and improvisation ugh, more than awesome! Henk does it more classical and clean but more power in his head voice
