- Hello everybody and welcome to a #history of #liberty #libertyfootball from its humble NAIA beginning to possibly being a top 5 team in the nation as far as potential.
I'd like you all to join me in a walk down memory lane for some of you and what is a lesson in the great history of your former, current, or future alma mater the Liberty Flames #flames . In a world where Alabama and Georgia toip the charts in names, it sure is nice to see Liberty at the top and getting the proper respect it deserves in relativity to its booming #successstory . They might become the fastest program to relevance as we see if they can pull of their win in a NY6 bowl I'd feel bad to be the oppenent of them in.
Liberty's rise to relevance, in football and basketball, has been really impressive.
Definitely agree with you it will be interesting if both programs can take that next step.
They've got basketball too? Wild I might watch college basketball for once
@@thepick6 Baseball went on a nice run too! It's been a couple of years but they are poised to bounce back
Duck here. This is the most mysterious of ALL the bowl games. We truly don't know what to expect with these two teams. May the Flames play their best.
yeah I’m just hoping for a good game
Enjoyed this style video please make more
Appreciate it
Fun fact: Ken Karcher told Rashad Jennings (the guy who appeared towards the end as an NFL draft pick) that he wasn't good enough to play division 1 football. And that kids is how you end up with a 21-46 career coaching record. Dude couldn't tell talent no matter who it was.
(Jennings ended up with a scholarship to Pitt before transferring to Liberty to be with his family)
True that, a stubborn coach is always the one getting passed up by those who know ball and respect talent.
@@thepick6 Jennings' book The If In Life is a good read. He doesn't name Karcher by name. But it was his senior year of high school which was '04. Which was Karcher's second to last season. He also goes in how he got the scholarship from Pitt after going to a camp there. Which Pitt ended the previous season #25 in the AP poll.
Two things...
1) Danny Rocco is not dead, he's coaching at VMI.
2) Coach Rocco didn't go to Delaware, he went to Richmond
Ah good catch thats my bad on the Delaware thing, but I'm confused, I didn't say he died! I said Tom Dowling died in 2018. Unless I missed something.
@@thepick6 yeah, you called him "the late, Great Danny Rocco" at 5:10
He's surely alive 😁
Ruh-tig-lee-ah-no 😊
Yea I kinda butchered that didn't I?
@@thepick6 all good.
I didn’t see Freddie Banks mentioned…The first Flame to be drafted into the NFL
Oh that's true! I remember reading about him during my research but I definitely left it out on accident. Who knows, maybe a follow up video will follow one day 👀.
For the record, Hugh Freeze was a good coach, but due to controversies was basically banned from the SEC. When Auburn came calling eventually, the rumors got out and the team kinda collapsed. The Final game against New Mexico State was where it really came to a head and Freeze told the team he was talking to Auburn, and there were a lot of hurt feelings. Liberty could've gone undefeated that year if it hadn't been for Freeze trying to get back to the Big leagues. I can understand that, but Freeze is probably the most disliked coach at liberty.
This was a good video. I found it to hold a couple savvy insights into what the future is likely to hold for Liberty. A key component to their program setting their standards at that next level and demonstrating that they are destined to move out of G5 into a P5 position is their forward vision. The pick up of Coaches Freeze and now Chadwell and each of their complimenting assistant coaching staffs will serve to craft this program into a program that will produce competitive teams every year. They have shown that P5 programs can schedule them as out of conference matchups, which will serve both programs. More importantly it will drive Liberty to take even greater strides to play at the level of P5 schools regularly. The Fiesta Bowl was important for a several reasons. 1. It put LU's name out there for stronger recruiting efforts moving forward, 2. It was a measuring stick of where they are currently versus where they want to be, and 3. It gave the program a taste of playing at the elite level against a school that could have been playing for a national title. I believe Liberty will continue its commitment to its program and will find themselves on the national stage regularly moving forward.
Definitely agree with you especially on the fiesta bowl being important. I’m interested in seeing how much of an impact it has on recruiting and the transfer portal recruiting in the next few years.
Losing to Oregon would not crush this program, unless it is in manner of Florida State to Georgia. I noticed Liberty when Turner Gill became their head coach. What a great story, and I will be rooting for them (unless they play Nebraska).
I agree with you for the most part but a good showing could give liberty a better shot at the playoffs next year with the expanded playoffs.
Thank you for the love for the Liberty Flames. Just some corrections - it was "Tom" Dowling, Morgan Hout was not the Head Coach of Maryland but was an Asst., Coach Sam Rutigliano's last name is pronounced, "roo-tig-li-ano", Coach Danny Rocco is still alive (you referred to him as the "late, great" and "late" means deceased), pictures of Kelvin E. and Richard S. are mixed up (KE is on top as the receiver and Shelton was the DB on bottom), yes, Cooley was at WF but he transferred to LU from Coastal where he played the previous season. Well, we didn't win our big bowl game and honestly got blown out but the exposure, the fan base that showed up beating Oregon's fan base by about 20% (more fans) and the transfer portal seeming to be more of a benefit than a detriment, should help us continue to grow. I predict we will be in the 12 team playoff next year or a medium level bowl game with only 2 losses for the season (or less). Thank you for your presentation.
Thank you for the love back! I appreciate the corrections, this shows I need to take a bit more time with the details to respectfully give credit to those that have participated.
The Flames have key pieces that any program would be jealous of, but I absolutely agree the bowl game exsposure will absolutely help with the transfer portal and recruitment in general.
The fans showing up in full force is another factor that was super cool to see and I can see playing into their favor as well. Here's to many more years of success!
Yo liberty is the next USC but better with read option qbs
Could be, we shall see!
The real question is how much money will continue to be funneled into this program. The old President had to resign due to a sex scandal involving the pool boy. Liberty is a religious mainly online school and the president was pumping tons of cash into their sport programs all while feuding with his brother who leads the church side who is very opposed to growing the sports of the school.
JMU is about an hour from them so it’s been wild to watch both programs excel but it will be interesting to see how Liberty fairs when the checkbook and leadership is no longer focused on growing sports.
Yeah only time will tell about the money but with the new playoff format they could take advantage of the situation and really push the program forward. JMU I think has the better foundation but things change quickly in college sports.
Not to mention how my Ducks are going to expose the Flames on Monday.
I guess we will see@@tarico4436
My ears are bleeding from hearing Sam Rutigliano's name butchered so badly. Rutigliano is pronounced Ruh - tig - lee - AH - no.
Yeah, my bad on that one
Liberty liberty liiiberrttty
Dat commercial doe
Kinda wild
Wild indeed!
Now you should make a video and title it, Libertys rise to relevance and their immediate return to non relevancy 😂
10 out of 10 comment got me to laugh out loud. Hopefully Liberty can learn from it and try and make the new 12 team playoff in the future.
