The hubris that he wanted to move the industry forward by breaking the rules and how the tragedy he caused has now set back the industry is second only to the fact that this man was killed because he was a greedy person who had no consideration for those around him. He saw himself as so much smarter and more intelligent and creative than everyone else around himself. This should be a lesson to everyone else who is too smart to listen to the world around them.

I won't miss him at all, he took ridiculous risk and four other people, including a 19 year old boy, died due to his stupidity and hubris.
The cost of storage, staff, construction and the cost of hiring the mother ship, let alone fuel, repairs etc. he wasn't making big money, if any. I think if his idea of commercialised exploration of the deep had become a reality the oceans (already tainted by man) would be seriously compromised. Just look at the Rain Forest and Africa's wild-life destruction. I am so thankful that Nature struck back!

I feel the only pressure he was under was self-induced. But when he talks cutting costs it spells it out very clearly. Also, for him to say less was done in 40 years for explainable but illogical reasons I have to wonder if he is referring to the concept of retiring subs after X number of dives. If so, then in hind site his perception of illogical became quite logical very quickly.
