The paddles only select the highest gear range it can go to. so you can effectively shift down but not up. A lost opportunity to not make them work as they do in other cars. The ECVT puts a lot of people of this car, a stepped transmission at least in certain modes or when in manual (Like Subaru WRX) would make them far more popular.
LOL You needed to move the gear lever to manual mode to use the paddle shifters. User error there. Personally, I don't see the point of them in this car. The eCVT is very efficient in combination with the hybrid drive train. Computers keep the system optimized for fuel economy. That is why the Lexus gets high 30's mpg where Volvo, BMW, Mitsubishi, etc get low 20's. Otherwise a good review. Thanks.

The gear changes seemed to work when you were off throttle. Maybe it overrides on full throttle
