    I left RFA in 1999 , and went to the commercial fleet. For me the fun had gone out the game . Time ashore was non existent , wages were stagnant, and the t &C were going away from benefitting the crew to zero. All in the name of 'modernisation' . Ie. saving the treasury a few pennies here and there at the detriment of morale .

    They won't/refuse to pay the wages like the RN gets, that's why.
    The leave is sh1t after the sh1t trip you've just done without much shore leave while having extra RN work to do or cater for.
